Questions about Cuisinart COS-330 Smoker, 30" Electric
Q:
Can you make jerky with this smoker?
Answer: I'm not sure. I have never made jerky but imagine it involves low/medium heat. If that's all it takes then this will do it. If it involves smoke then go to another smoker. If it requires higher heat, say 300 deg. or more, then skip this one. My smoker "smokes" only up to 250 deg and gives almost no smoke. Wish I had bought a well known brand that had a valued name. For most things involving barbeque skip this one.
Answer: Yes, if you use lower temperatures, you will be able to make jerky with this smoker.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does this take propane? I thought it was electric
Answer: The cos-330 is an electric smoker. The cos-244 is a propane smoker.
Answer: It's electric no propane
Answer: I’m not sure because I never purchased this. I do know that there is an electric model and a propane model.
Answer: Electric
Q:
Do you use pellets or wood chips?
Answer: For the COS-330 Electric smoker, you would use wood chips.
Answer: wood chips
Answer: Pellets
Answer: What would be the difference i dont see why u couldnt use either or?
Q:
Does this smoker have a timer or auto shut off
Answer: No, it doesn’t. You wouldn’t want it to do that.
Answer: No, neither
Answer: No, it does not.
Answer: Can not help you, I do not have one , Sorry.
Q:
The heating element is angled upwards, so the wood box sits on top of the heating element. how do i fix this so it is not touching? or is that ok?
Answer: That should be ok. Mine also slightly touches the heating element. That’s what gets the wood chips hot enough to start burning/smoking.
Answer: Gently bend the heating element down
Answer: Yes, it is ok for it to touch slightly.
Answer: You have to use a wire I didn’t and it caught on fire
Q:
is this 110v-240v?
Answer: 110v
Q:
Does this item come with a warranty?
Answer: It does but the warranty is spotty at best.
Answer: Our smokers come with a 3 year limited warranty.
Q:
When the light on the power cord is off but the smoker is turned on does that mea. It’s reached temperature or does that mean the smoker is turned off
Answer: It means it has reached its temperature setting and the element is not heating. When it cools off a little it will turn on the element and the light will come back on.
Answer: This means the heating element reached desired temp. Similar to an oven, it goes on and off throughout a smoke
Answer: Reached temp and shut off, will turn back on when unit calls for heat
Q:
How long do wood chips last
Answer: For ever as long as kept dry/sealed.
Answer: depends if they are wet or dry. I like a dry smoke so they will last an hour or so. wet they will last alittle longer
Q:
Can one buy replacement shelves?
Answer: Yes, please reach out to our consumer care team at 1-866-994-6390.
Q:
Does the temperature control on the electric smoker let you set an exact temperature and walk away for an hour or couple hours?
Answer: No there is no exact temperature setting you need to keep an eye on the temperature gauge if the temperature holds at a temperature you are looking for then that will be the temperature that it will stay at. If you have alot of meat in the smoker you may never exactly reach the temperature you are looking for. This happened to me when I was smoking 3 racks of ribs and I couldn’t get the temperature between 225-250 degrees. It stayed steady at 215 the whole smoking time. I smoke ribs using the 3,2,1 method.
Answer: Nope. It is a dial with colors. Yellow for low, red for high/hot. You can get an idea of range, but you can't set it for 250, for example.
Answer: yes !
Q:
i bought this for my mom she lost the instructions to it how would i get another set of instructions?
Answer: You could YouTube instruction vidios
Answer: It took me literally 13 seconds to Google COS-330 electric manual and BAM there the directions were.
Answer: If you go to the product page on amazon, there is a pdf of the manual at the very bottom of the page.
Answer: Not sure. Have you contacted the company directly and asked them?
Q:
Will the cos 330 really go as low as 100 degrees, i noticed that the temperature gauge starts at 150
Answer: The heating coil that provides the 1500-watt heating element able to produce a temperature from 100°F to 400°F easily controlled with from a dial. It can go as low as 100.
Answer: Really?
Answer: I’ve never been able to get it past 280
Answer: Don’t turn it on. Just sit it in the sun light.
Q:
how tall is it without the legs?
Answer: 30.5"
Answer: About 30 1/2 inches without the drip try under it
Answer: 30"
Answer: Just over 30 inches.
Q:
Anyone else having issues with it reaching temps over 250 and holding a constant temp? Wondering if i got a bad unit.
Answer: I think I might have a bad heating element as well because I’ve never been able to get it to heat past 280. And I’m using a thermometer with two probes because the thermometer on the unit is 20 degrees off(lower)... what do I do? Oh and if I load it up with food it won’t heat past 240 until the food is almost done
Answer: I haven't had this problem at all. I do have to set the dial pretty high, but there's still room to move a decent amount higher. After it's been on a while, I usually lower the dial temperature about a quarter inch and it stays around 250. Check to make sure the box is closing all the way with no room for air to escape except the vent hole in the back. It could be the heating unit (easily replaced by them) or it could be too much heat is escaping due to a poor build.
Answer: I cannot get above 250 degrees. I can hold a constant temperature, but I haven't had good results with smoke flavor. I should have read the reviews which I usually do. Very dissatisfied with this smoker!
Answer: You either got a bad temperature gauge or your heating unit
Answer: Yes. I think it’s just the unit. With mine, I don’t believe the thermometer on the door. I use a digital which is normally much lower than the one on the door. As with any smoker, once you get it dialed in, it will get more consistent if you leave the door closed. My chief complaint with the unit is how little smoke it creates. I’m not very happy with mine, but I’m making it work for now.
Answer: Yes I did! Had it for a couple of months, if it was 80F it wasn't getting hotter than 200F Big waste of Money!
Answer: I did in the wind in the early cold spring. I moved it out of the wind and worked fine.
Answer: Mine stopped working at all after 4 uses.
Q:
Can you use this indoors???
Answer: No, this is for outdoor use only.
Answer: No! That would be dangerous and deadly.
Answer: No
Answer: It cannot be used indoors or in a garage. It must be used outside.
Answer: No, this is for outdoor use only.
Answer: No you cannot! Smokers are for outdoor use only.

Q:
is these questions for a diffrent smoker?
Answer: My smoker is electric.
Q:
Should the wood chip pan have some water in it when cooking??
Answer: The wood chip pan should have wood chips with the second box being for water.
Answer: I soak wood chips and place in pan, no water. Add water to water pan only.
Answer: Yes We absolutely love our smoker The meat comes out so tender we just think it’s the best thing I ever bought
Q:
Can I fit a pizza in here?
Answer: You could fit three small / medium pizzas with no problem. But it may not get hot enough to cook pizzas, unless you want to wait a really long time. Think it tops out at about 275 degrees and the more stuff you put in it the less hot it gets
Answer: It is 17" depth.
Answer: Yes!
Q:
What cover will fit this? It seems the measurements do not fit in those I'm seeing listed on Amazon.
Answer: The cover that the manufacturer sells fits great
Q:
Is this a good smoker and does it hold the temperature and uses wood right
Answer: i bought the propane gas & am sorry to say i do not like it as it does not burn the wood to produce smoke to suit me.i believe the electric would be worse.
Answer: Wood chunks and charcoal
Q:
Porque sale en el producto cos-330 el nombre de cuisinart cgav-600? esta errado el nombre ? estoy interesado en comprar, pero me causa duda
Answer: Para mi asido muy útil measalido
Q:
How the smoke flavor on the electric smoker compared to a traditional smoker ?
Answer: With electric smokers, sometimes it can be tricky to generate smoke within the unit. We typically suggest that you run the smoker on high with no water in the unit, and dry wood chips in the wood chip tray. Starting the unit completely dry and on high should get the chips smoking and then, once you have enough smoke going and the unit is back up to temp, you can put your meat in and let the temperature get back up, because it will drop with opening the door and adding meat. Add water about 10-15 minutes of smoke being generated.
Answer: buy a smoke tube, fill it with pellets, light it with a propane torch or electric blower, and place it in the smoker with the meat. Will turn out great.
Answer: I haven’t used a traditional but it does give off the smoky flavor .
Answer: The same
Q:
How long does it take to reach 400 degrees
Answer: mine never reaches 400 :(
Answer: Not long .. but who really knows since probably not accurate.
Q:
How much chips are needed ?
Answer: Depends on how much smoke you want I usually use as many as I can
Q:
does anyone know where i can purchase a cover for the 30” one? i’ve looked on amazon and find nothing. thank you
Answer: The cover that fits this smoker is cgc-10244.
Answer: We do not have a cover for this smoker.
Q:
Mine has a hole on the back of it. Is it supposed be there?? I don’t see anything in the instructions about it.
Answer: There should be a vent covering that hole. If you are missing the vent, please reach out to us at grilling@thefulhamgroup.com.
Answer: The hole is there to allow smoke out and to circulate air. Without it whatever you are smoking will cook not smoke.
Answer: yes it is suppose to be there. that's where you can run your external temp probes through.
Answer: I purchased it for my son as a gift and the one we got was damaged in shipment. We returned it and went with a different model. Sorry I can’t answer.
Q:
What is the highest temperature on the dial
Answer: There are no temps on the control dial. It’s just a graph with colors from blue to red. The thermometer goes up to 450 or 500.
Answer: The highest I have been able to reach was 275 on full blast. It fluctuates a lot over a very short period which I don't like (between 30 and 50 degrees)
Answer: There is no number for temperature on the dial. No automated control, its all manual. The dial has color. They include a thermometer but I also stick a thermometer in the vent to see the temp.
Answer: 400 degrees.
Q:
Where can I buy just the stainless steel water pan? I need to replace mine for this smoker.
Answer: I used a aluminum cake pan with my old smoker, but don't fill it up just a little goes along way I clean my smoker every time I use it.
Answer: My smoker caught fire first time I used it try Amazon or use a small pan you have
Answer: I have seen them at Home Depot. You may also find them online. Good luck
Q:
The light on the power cable/thermostat control what does that do?
Answer: This will let you know when it is on.
Q:
Can it be left outside?
Answer: If you cover it, it could be left outside. But you should probably remove the controller before leaving it out while not in use.
Answer: Yes, but we recommend putting a cover on it if left outside.
Answer: I wouldn’t leave it outside when you are finished.
Answer: you would want to buy the cgc-10244 cover to protect this Smoker.
Answer: We bought a cover for ours and have it in our covered patio. I wouldn't leave it out in the elements uncovered. But that is just me.
Answer: maybe last longer if stored inside when not using
Answer: With a cover yes. Otherwise it will rust from rain/ snow etc.
Answer: Not if its raining
Answer: Buy a cover for it.
Answer: Yes, but I bought a cover for it, just for extra protection.

Answer: No.
Answer: No
Q:
On the electric model, how accurate is the thermometer?
Answer: We have had a problem with ours. Still trying to work it out with Cuisinart customer service but they have not been very responsive. It is very inconsistent, and at times we can't get the temp to go up over 200, no matter what we do. We have only had it for a couple of months and have used it about 6 times. At one point, the thermometer just shut down and then came back on by itself in the middle of cooking. Hate to say it because we expected better from Cuisinart, but we are frustrated at their lack of response and resolution.
Answer: its pretty accurate but on some meat I still use a internal meat thermometer
Answer: Use a internal temperature gauge I have no issues with mine. I found out that if you over load the smoker you can’t reach proper temp maximum I had was 225 when I over load it.
Q:
This may be a dumb question, but can the electric smoker be used inside?
Answer: I wouldn’t- maybe inside a garage with the garage door open, but that’s it.
Answer: My smoker is actually a gas smoker, However after seeing all the smoke it does put out, you wouldn't want to use that in your house.
Answer: No. It needs to vent the smoke, especially after you open the door. Only use outdoors.
Answer: No, not a chance. LOTS of smoke comes out of it.
Answer: Instructions that come with it say No.
Q:
I'm 7 hours into smoking a pork shoulder at approx. 250 degrees w/ the electric smoker. It barely makes any smoke. What's wrong?
Answer: The smoker dont need to make loads of smoke to get the flavor into the meat.
Answer: If you had no smoke you probably burned all the wood chips and need to add more
Q:
Does it have a dripping tray?
Answer: Yes, there is a drip tray that goes at the bottom of the smoker.
Answer: It does have a drip tray on the outside on the very bottom. That doesn't help much with the inside clean up. So what I usually do is put an aluminum pan underneath everything inside.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Can smoker use wood chunks instead of chips? Is it necessary to put water in this electrical smoker?
Answer: I don't recommend chunks. I smoked a turkey at about 245 degrees and that temperature barely produced enough smoke with chips.
Answer: I would say depends on the size of the chunks. Smaller ones should work ok, but definitely made for chips and smaller pieces. It also does need water to help keep the food moist as it smokes. Typically I put something with flavor in it, so a little bit of red wine vinegar or something that would add to the flavor of the rub I use. I do mix in a little of that with water. (Has a container for water and one for wood.) The smoker has proven to be solid and simple. Two things I love.
Answer: I have never used chunks just chips and it is not necessary to put water in but it keeps things moist as you smoke it. I personally didn;t care for this smoker at all and sent it back
Answer: The wood isn't used to heat it but to produce smoke. Chips provide a lot of surface area to do this, and dampening the wood lets it smolder and smoke rather than burn. I don't think you'll get good results if the wood chunks are too large, but you can try it.
Answer: Chips are recommended. we do recommend water as well, however, it is not needed.
Q:
What type of plug ???? is used for this product
Answer: The Cusinart COS-330 Smoker comes complete with 30 inch plug in!
Answer: It uses a standard US 3-prong plug for 110 volts. It is the same that is on many appliances.
Answer: A standard plug 110 v 3 prong ground
Answer: I believe it’s a regular 110 plug.
Answer: Just a regular outlet plug. It isn’t a specialty type plug
Answer: Normal plug. We were very unhappy with this smoker and ended up getting rid of it. It didn’t smoke the wood chips.
Answer: It is a standard 3-prong grounded plug
Q:
Dual voltage
Answer: We didn’t purchase this product so unfortunately I can’t help.
Q:
Why are there so many reviews and questions for other products? This listing is for the electric smoker. Not propane. Not charcoal.
Answer: The one I purchased is electric. You have the convienance of setting the temp and forgetting about it.
Q:
Si la carne tiene que estar cocinada o pre cocinada
Q:
So the wood chip box should be touching the heating element?
Answer: No, the chop box has a place on a rack above the heating element.
Answer: It will be very close to the heating element and may touch it slightly when pulling it in and out of smoker.
Q:
i see lots of comments saying this is propane but isnt it electric?
Answer: No it is not electric. It is propane only.
Answer: Propane
Product reviews of Cuisinart COS-330 Smoker, 30" Electric
brenda enyart : I received broken and it is yet to be replaced
Can't use broken for 3 weeksStill not replaced
Tammy : The best smoker ever
We made ribs and they were falling off the bone they were so delicious
dannon mccreary : Good for sides not meat
It’s a great smoker for doing sides not for smoking meat. Have to play with thermostat to get temp so level out then it kept spiking on temp. Nice build just wouldn’t advise smoking meat. I have a pellet smoker and it works great but bought this one to try it out.
R. Byrd III : Good and Bad
The assembly was pretty easy and straightforward. That's the good news. The bad, my first use today smoking chicken I found the interior liner to the door slightly buckled from heat. I was able to get it open and tapped the liner straight. The liner is thin sheet metal and the smoker is currently at 275 degrees. Nowhere close to the max.
I now know the difference between a $200 smoker and a $400 one.
John Flowers : good ship
made better than i hoped
shane hawkins : Horrible Quality: Door Hinge Broke after opening door 5 times. almost no weld on it.
Go and buy someting else. Maker is too cheap to put enough weld on the door hinge to make it last any amount of time. I bought this becasue the brand name is usually a quality product... BUT, this one is not.
Thomas Fiore : Door latch not very good
Used this 6 times was working great but latch on door broke off now I must return it if you try to do a slow smoke 225 degrees it doesn’t make a lot of smoke
Tammy K. Tawater : Temperature control defective
Do not buy this! Temperature control is defective
dannon mccreary : Good for sides not meat
It’s a great smoker for doing sides not for smoking meat. Have to play with thermostat to get temp so level out then it kept spiking on temp. Nice build just wouldn’t advise smoking meat. I have a pellet smoker and it works great but bought this one to try it out.
lucille daniel : Tasty and Tender
Using the smoker is so low maintenance. The taste of the food when it’s done is more than I expected. Cooking on a regular grill is obsolete now.
Tammy : The best smoker ever
We made ribs and they were falling off the bone they were so delicious
Amazon Customer : always wanted a smoker
fantastic
S. Smerud : Electric, not Charcoal or Propane Version
This is a review of the Cuisinart COS-330 Electric Smoker. At this time, the charcoal and propane reviews are also included on the same product page. But, those products are likely pretty different.
The shipping packaging was in perfect condition, but the smoker itself had a pretty big dent on the door. Assembly was pretty easy. Cleaning and seasoning with vegetable oil and cooking for two hours are required before the first use. Pieces of chrome flaked off when I first wiped down the racks. Therefore, it seems like future pieces of chrome could flake off into food. The door handle coating also had a couple small chips down to the metal that will eventually lead to some rusting.
There wasn't much on instructions for getting the right cooking results. I didn't get any smoke in the five hours I used it at 225 degrees. After my food was done, I tested it at higher temperatures. At around 300 degrees the smoke started. 225 is well within the electric dial, so it seems like it should have smoked. Next time, I'll turn it up until I get smoke, then turn it down to the desired temperature and hope the smoke continues. Instead of small wood chips, there might be other products that work better with electric smokers, like sawdust or wood shavings.
Two oven thermometers were compared with the thermometer on the smoker. At one point the oven thermometers were at 225 and 215 while the smoker thermometer read 275. At around 300 degrees, all three thermometer readings were pretty close. The electric dial keeps a very consistent temperature.
The cord is generally long enough. However, it plugs in on the left. So if your outlet is on the right, it may be too short, or you'll just turn the smoker to be at an awkward angle.
J Bower : The GREATEST smoker out there!
I bought this product for a birthday present. It was a hit! The meat ???? was perfect as is the smoker…..we are a very please consumer!
Tammy : The best smoker ever
We made ribs and they were falling off the bone they were so delicious
Tessa : Very Disappointed - Badly manufactured
We purchased this a few months ago and because of some life events this is the first chance we've had to use this. I purchased this for my boyfriend's birthday and he's spent more time trying to get the door opened because the lip on the main part of the door frame sticks out and is trying to rip the metal panel on the door off from the corner. He shouldn't have to try to do metal work on a brand new smoker. In it's current state it is almost dangerous to try to open the door when it's in use because you can burn yourself just trying to get the door open because it's trying to rip that panel off. There are also scratches all over the inside of the smoker and we haven't even put anything in it yet. This is the first cuisinart product I've ever been disappointed in.
danielle dillon : Love!
Love this!!!!!!! Great temperature control. Easy to use and clean.

I really liked the fact that i didn’t need to add anything for 2-3 hours. The smoke was nice and consistent.

NOTHEN it works fine
Amazon Customer : Good smoker for the price.. could be much better with a few mods.
I purchased this smoker in time to smoke a turkey for Thanksgiving. I live in middle Tennessee, so it was around 40 degrees when I put the turkey on and close to sixty when I took it off 11 hours later. In that weather the turkey was a success. That said, it does leak a fair amount of heat which would be a problem in cooler climates. $20 worth of heat gasket should remedy that problem. The other issue I have is the temperature control is very finicky, and requires frequent monitoring to maintain the correct temperature. I imagine installing the heat gasket material would alleviate or minimize the issue, but can't say for sure. I will update my review once I have installed the heat gasket. Overall it is a good unit for the price, and hopefully is much improved with some inexpensive mods..
Kindle Customer : Good but some design flaws
It does it good job cooking meat But it has a couple design flaws. You have to completely open the smoker to access and replace the wood chips Which let’s all of the smoke out and brings the temperature back down. If you put food on the racks as suggested, the drippings will fall right into the heating element and it’s really messy. Other models have a water pan that’s large enough to catch all of the drippings.

Carla A Sillin : Disappointing smoker
Purchased this smoker to replace my Smoken Tex which went belly up. Easy to assemble but very difficult to clean up after smoking. It does an adequate job of smoking but you have to monitor the unit constantly to ensure temperature remains constant. Smoking at 225 degrees and temp. would vary from 200 to 250. Had to constantly adjust the thermostat. Should not have to do this. Would not recommend this unit.
Ahmad Nalan : It’ll get the job done just fine
I’ve been smoking with this unit for about a year now, which I purchased at Lowe’s for about the same price as amazon. It’s pretty comparable to other electric smokers. Some complaints I’m reading about, are issues you’ll have with most vertical electric smokers. But here are some pros and cons more specific to this unit.
Pros:
- Does the job.
- Easy to use and understand for beginners
- small hole in backside of smoker allows for thermometer probes to be inserted
- good smoke flavor and plenty of smoke
Cons:
- you have to open smoker to add more chips. That lets out heat. Only a problem when smoking a long time like ribs or brisket.
- smaller size makes it so large ribs racks are somewhat challenging to fit. (Most fit diagonally).
- no actual temps on the heat adjustment, so you have to play with it to figure out what temps it will hold.
- like most electric smokers, you have to get the temp really high at first to get it to smoke, then add the meat and drop the temp to desired smoking temperature.
Overall, the smoker does a great job for the price. You’ll have to learn how to use it. These types of smokers have some temperature bounce (variance) which you’ll have to learn to control. And you have to learn how to get the smoke going (I get the temp high first then bring it back down. No water added to chips). I use an inexpensive Bluetooth thermometer to check internal smoker temp and meat temp. That product makes using any smoker super easy.
Amazon Customer : Don't listen to the bad reviews.
Let me start off by saying, read the dam directions...... all these people complaining about pain and smell and blah blah..... you have to turn it on for 3 hours with NOTHING in it first, which the directions do say. Morons... fast delivery, well packed, nothing dented, in fact, I was impressed with the packing, good job.
Joe P : Don’t forget to season the unit before you use it very important
So far love it ...only used it once after I seasoned the unit, did smoked salmon and it turned out excellent
Mel : Quality smoker
Bought for my husband who has had other smokers. Easy to set the temp and go. Very reliable. Sturdy. Pleased with this purchase. Would buy it again
Kindle Customer : Door fell off
The door was slightly welded on. As soon as I started putting it together, the door fell off.It just broke off, where it was welded.
Alexandre talbot : Bacon
Make good bacon
Tim : Upon receiving, check all parts & construction.
Operates well. Received with one bad spot weld on a rack; still useable.
Amazon Customer : always wanted a smoker
fantastic
Dane : Perfect for powder coating conversion!
To start with: This thing is assembled like garbage from the factory. That wasn't a deal breaker for me as I had to completely strip it down to insulate and seal it for use with powder coating so all the poor fitment and loose rivets were dealt with pretty much right out of the box. Since then I've used it numerous times to cure powder coat and it's worked flawlessly. Takes a while to heat up but holds temp well once it does. Overall if you're looking to do small sized projects then this is the oven to buy. Don't be swayed by the cheaper "1800w" smoker models as they don't have internal skins like this one.
