Answer: I am not sure if this would help him. I wade streams while fishing and use it to hold the rod while I am tying on a new fly. It keeps both my hands free to work. If he does any wading or is standing in a drift boat it might help.

As other reviews note, the support hooks are too tight. It's easy to use a heat gun to open them up to fit your rod handle. It's not difficult to do. I am very pleased with it. Don't know how I got along without it! Works great! This is a fantastic value. Buy this and you will thank me!

The Clip only works if you have a solid belt..no elastic. The rod just moves all over. Not recommended. Sorry
