Answer: This in an inexpensive scale. It works great I weigh all kinds of things for various purposes. If I am using a bucket, I just press the on button with the bucket attached and it goes to zero. I believe this is what they mean. It has worked great for me, and I really don't take care if it well.

Answer: They mean you can re-zero it. If you hand a basket from it, the basket will weigh something. If you re-zero it with the basket hanging, effectively "recalibrating it" to account for the weight of the basket. It will set the zero to show zero with the basket hanging from it. That way you can get the weigh of what you put in the basket without having to subtract the baskets weight.

What is the lowest weight it will register?

Answer: It says on the box "Range: 0.2 KG~150KG" which would be roughly 0.44 to 330.69 pounds. Practically speaking, the unit itself is pretty substantial and has thick metal hooks for hanging. If you want to weigh something less than a pound, you could save money and do it better with a baggage or postage scale. I use this scale to weigh a person.

will it lock in peak draw weight on a compound bow?

Answer: The Klau Mini Crane Scale can be set to either continuously measure the weight/force applied or to record the highest weight/force applied. Having said that, for purposes of measuring draw weight for a compound bow, the user would have to draw and hold for at least a fraction of a second at point of release to get the reading. As a bowhunter myself (double recurve) it hadn't occurred to me to use the scale in this fashion, but I believe it would work, certainly better than pressing the unarmed shaft against a conventional, spring operated, bathroom scale and pressing to full draw.

This is a VERY unfair review, so bear with me.

This was a very well made unit....easy to read and use. Unfortunately about 15 minutes after receiving it, it fell off the kitchen table onto my linoleum floor and the digital screen shattered causing the display to become unreadable and the unit was essentially useless to me. I never got to use it.
Now, me dropping it 30 inches onto the floor was all my fault....but this should be able to handle a drop like that without rendering the unit useless.

We have been using this to weigh farm produce. It gives very reproducible readings and the readouts stabilize quickly. The readings correspond well with a certified balance. Mostly we are weghing in the 5 to 30lb range and in that range it rounds off to around .2lb increments. That is the stated precision and that is very good for our purposes. So far (2 months) it has been completely reliable. Would buy again.

I bought this item to help weigh hay bales (50-65 lbs) in the field to verify bale weight. The scale works well for that purpose, the construction of the device seems good enough for the price. I had to add a long bolt to use as a handle and I found the included S hooks do come off easily when I store the scale in a tool box. I did test the accuracy of the scale when I bought it and it was right on money compared to a floor scale I have. In the field it seems to measure correctly also.

So far the scale has help up well (I am a bit of a rough user) and I would purchase another one if I need to.

I really like this thing. I use it for traditional longbow / recurve bow making to measure the draw weight of the bow while tillering. It isn't very durable. I dropped it maybe 6 inches when one of the hooks came out and the digital screen shattered and it no longer works. Figured it was sort of my fault but still wanted another so bought another.

northtrader : Works but it can't read a 'max' tension when the load varies.

I bought this scale to measure tension in a rope. It was unclear in other reviews whether this scale could read a 'max' tension when the load is varying. It cannot register a max load when the load is changing. The load has to remain stable for about 2 seconds for it to 'capture' the value and save it.
The faceplate is easy to read. I just wish the auto shut off could be turned off. In my application, I would rather burn through some extra batteries and have a setting that leaves the scale 'on' until I manually turn it off.
Speaking of batteries - the included batteries are a complete joke. Light as a feather. I didn't bother using them because they felt like air.

I ordered this scale to measure the poundage pull as I adjusted my new compound bow. It worked perfectly. The scale was well made, contained two heavy metal S hooks, and needed batteries. I hooked one S hook to a fixed overhead point, attached the scale, then placed the second S hook on the bottom section of the scale. I placed the bow string into the bottom S hook. I carefully pulled down on bow and read the scale's readout. Large and clear numbers are easy to read. I probably will use this scale about once or twice a year to adjust bow weight. I took out the batteries and put everything back in the box until next time. I felt the unit was sturdy, solid, and well worth the money I paid for measuring up to a 70# pull. I have no doubt that the weight reading was accurate. Great guarantee in the event that unit is defective or doesn't work...but mine was fine.
