Bochco : Excellent Time Saver!

I purchased this hot knife fabric cutter to help speed the process of cutting nylon webbing for Bimini tops. Currently, I am using heavy shears which is hard on my hands and allows for a bit of unraveling after the cut.
Upon receipt, I found the new cutting tool to be in a very nice plastic case with plenty of room inside. It’s easy to store the cutter when you’re done as you don’t have to squeeze everything into it. It has room for additional blade storage as well. The cutter’s cord also comes with a nice Velcro strap to secure the cord in a bundle. The kit includes a cutting blade, a cutting foot, two spare blade locking screws, an Allen wrench for the locking the blade and foot to the cutter and a very nice Allen wrench holder that is attached to the power cord near the cutter.
I tried the cutter on a couple items. The first was a length of 18 LB polypropylene twine. It’s about 1/8” in diameter and is twist stranded. I started at the middle setting at 8 clicks (the heat adjustment knob has 16 indents). When I pulled the trigger, the blade heated up within seconds, the cooling fan kicked on about a second later and the LED on top consistently flashed. I’m not sure what the flashing indicated as the manual wasn’t specific. It appears it just starts flashing when the blade is “hot”. After it heated for a few seconds, I tried cutting the twine. It took quite a bit of force to get it to cut. It seemed at that power setting it was mostly using the sharpness of the blade to cut it. I then turned the unit to level 15 and tried again. This time it went right through the twine with no problem. It slightly melted the ends of the cut twine keeping it from unraveling. The only thing I would have liked to see was all the strands melted. It was sufficient though for this purpose.
My second test was the nylon strap. It’s about 1 ¼” wide and about 3/16” thick. I set the cutter to 15 again and clicked the trigger. After about three seconds, I put it to the strap and cut through like butter. WOW!! I loved it at this point. Not only was it quick and easy, it also had very little to no smoke and properly melted the strands on both sides. This tool worked perfectly and is my new “go-to for all my nylon strap projects! Some would say scissors or shears work just as well, however the melting aspect of this creates perfection on the strap. I am amazed at how well this tool worked for my application and I highly recommend it.

The blade is sharp and gets plenty hot. I've used it for cutting at one point for 45 minutes straight without any issues what so ever. I'm quite pleased with it and the fact that it comes in a nice box is a good bonus.
