Questions about Maxcatch Toro Series Fly Fishing Reel with Large Arbor, CNC-Machined Aluminum Alloy Body: 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 wt in Blue, Green, or Black
Q:
I'll sent my drag to nice happy medium. As I'm fishing, stripping line, reeling some in, the drag loosens completely. Anyone else have this problem?
Answer: I have used the 3/4 wt size for the majority of 2019 on my Euro Nymph rig and have experienced this as well. As recently as September 19. I have also had the drag knob seize up as a result of trying to tighten when it did happen. I thought I was going to have to send it in but finally managed to break it free. I'm not sure if the drag itself is loosening or the fact that the drag is not sealed and when it gets wet/damp, it doesn't have the same tension.

Answer: I have several high end reals that have done the same thing. To prevent this, before your first cast, put the reel under the water for a few seconds and then readjust your drag. This should prevent the drag disc release problem. You will also need to monitor your drag setting with daily temperature changes. This is common with most fly reels.
Answer: I've got the same issue, "reel drag" isn't it? To bad since there are so many good things about this reel. Agree, would not suggest to anyone and will not buy again.
Answer: Yes...just had it happen all day yesterday....seems to be a design problem...will not plan on buying another one of these....
Answer: No. I have three of these reels but have not had that happen.
Q:
Can’t find extra spools. Does anyone know how I can order a one?
Answer: You will find them on there website :http://www.maxcatchfishing.com/TORO_Spare_Spool_.html
Answer: It’s a cheap real buy two of them
Q:
I want to reel in with right hand. Do I want a right or left handed reel?
Q:
Is there an extra spool available? If so where do I get it?
Answer: Can't help you with getting an extra spool; however, you can't beat the price, which is the best reel I ever purchased. In the past I always used automatic reels. Really like the speed this reel returns the line , due to the design of a large arbor. Suggest you purchase another one.
Answer: Maxcatch website
Q:
What is the weight of the 3/4 weight reel?
Answer: It will hold either a 3 wt or 4 wt fly line.
Answer: It weights 4.7 oz. It's an awesome reel !!!
Answer: I dont know, it is a light reel and balances nicely on the rod. I really like the reel and would buy again.
Product reviews of Maxcatch Toro Series Fly Fishing Reel with Large Arbor, CNC-Machined Aluminum Alloy Body: 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 wt in Blue, Green, or Black
William E Lovelace Jr : Worth every penny
I have some very expensive reels and I must say this is a great reel for the money. It is a good looking reel and the drag works ok and I can strip off the line just fine. Buy this reel and put the money you save into a better rod.
Amazon Customer : Best sub $100 reel PERIOD!
I own over 70 reels from all different manufactures and all different price points. This reel has better fit and finish and initial quality than some $300 reels I've purchased. I now own 6 of them and all have been as reliable as a hammer.
anthony : Nice reel
Had a chance to try out my Toro 5 wt reel today it performed great paired with avid 5 wt line on a Redington trout classic rod I had already it was a nice fit I can't wait till I get a chance to hit the trout stream with it . The reel is very smooth and the drag works well .
Daniel T. : Wish I'd spent a little more $$, drag issues
Aaargh, so many good things about this reel. The clean finish, durability and large arbor. I fished this reel all summer and I'm still using it, didn't fall apart, but the drag is completely lacking. The drag button moves if it is bumped the slightest and there is very little drag adjustment. It goes from no drag, backlash when stripping out line, to very heavy drag in just 2 subtle clicks of the knob, about 30 degrees.
When set at the correct position/click, the drag works well with big fish taking line on 5x tippet. If only the reel had a larger adjustment range and if the knob wouldn't unintentionally turn, this reel would be a "reel winner". Ya hear that Maxcatch? I suggest spending another $40 to get into a low end brand name reel.

Brian Strickland : Great value
I’ve been flyfishing for a long time now, and have primarily been a Ross reel and Lamson guy.
I needed a cheap reel to put on my maxcatch glass rod, and this fit the bill.
I spent a week in northern Idaho this last September and it performed amazingly. I landed several westslope cutts in the 17-20” range, and the drag worked beautifully.
The machining is tight, and it looks really good.
I just ordered another 3/4 wt in blue to throw on another rod, that’s how much I like them.

Ken Sayachith : Best reel at the price hand down!
A lot of reel for the money! Smooth and has all the features of other name brand for 1/4 of the cost.
DeEpDaYdReAmEr : Husband loves it.
Bought this for my husband and he loves it!
