The gripper is excellent. The only reason i am giving it 4 Stars is because it’s smallest unit is 1/4lbs and once I had adjusted the scale to display 5 lbs correctly (yes, you can adjust the scale with the top knob) it was a little “giving” at the low end of the scale and would not return to 0 on its own. Nevertheless it still displayed 1lbs and up correctly.

I was beginning to think this thing was jinxed! I bought it because I was catching a lot of “toothy” critters in the gulf. After I bought it I didn’t catch anything. Or at least not anything I needed a grabber for. But I have to say that it was with me and has held up well. Finally the jinx was lifted and I have gotten to use it and it works great! I wanted one that swiveled to make hauling a big fish into my kayak easier, as well as placing them back in the water to release. The grip on the fish seems perfect, at least one has not come off and no damage to the fish. The only downside that I can think of is it is a little heavy so much that if you drop it the coil retainer straightens all the way out. But maybe that “weight” is what is going to make it durable down the road!

Complete junk I gave these a whole summer to make sure I gave this a far chance but when it arrived the thing was in pieces cause if the back screws comes off it's done for my scale reads 8 lbs heavy and good luck getting it past 13lbs without breaking it the teeth are inverted so it digs a whole in the fishes mouth good luck trying to work it out with a monster musky attached to it

This product looks great! It feels good in my smallish hands and provide me an assured grip when fishing. Paired with an attached lanyard even if it was to slip out-of-hand the gripper and fish aren't going anywhere.

This is a very sturdy gripper and should last a long time. The scale is accurate with a little tweaking and was compared to two digital Scales. When adjusting Scale via the round screw knob at the top beware as when it comes out which you don't need or want it too as you can't just screw it back in. It took me a little while in working out to get it back in, there is a slot in the actual scale you can see as it is no longer under the spring load and if you up the slot you will see a threaded screw.
So to replace the scale adjusting screw knob just hold the Scale vertical and the threaded screw will be centred so that you may reinsert the scale adjusting knob and take up the tension on the scale and adjust for accuracy.
Would I recommend it Yes I would.

I bought 3 different fish grip pliers before my annual fishing trip in northern Quebec. The Rapala RFFG9, the Piscifun Camouflage Fish Grabber, and the less expensive 9" red floating grippers (RED-L). All three worked very well with all sizes of pikes and walleyes.
The two plastic grippers have the most pinching strength, and the widest gripping surface, but they were harder to get into the mouths of some of the more stubborn fish. The Piscifun seemed the less likely to actually hold a fish because of it's spring loaded jaws compared to the vise-grip design of its plastic counterparts, but was actually the go-to gripper in my boat. The slimmer jaw design was easier to insert in the fish than both plastic grippers, and it held them well enough. All three of them will tear the membrane of the lower jaw if the fish is particularly feisty, but most of my catches left without that added injury. And it's no worse than the many scars they get from being caught in the first place.
Once gripped, I never lost control of any fish, regardless of the model I was using. They are all well built and serve their purpose beautifully. My daughters preferred the red one, and is the one used in most pictures.
Best value? Red grippers. Best overall experience? Piscifun.

I bought this primarily for the 'Lip Grip' feature. This feature worked great. Makes it a TON easier to pull hooks from toothy fish like northern and walleye without having to use the old-school jaw spreader. The rubber cushioned handle makes it easy to grip and control even with wet hands. The simple 'trigger' mechanism makes it quick and easy to release them back to the water. In the end, the fish is out of water for less time and is less likely to get injured (or injure you) during the hook-extraction process. So, that alone makes this product worth the money.
The scale feature is just a 'bonus'. According to the scale, the 30 inch pike in the picture came in at just under 5 pounds. I didn't have another scale to compare against but all of the 'average weight' charts say that a 30 inch northern pike should come in between 6 and 7 pounds. That said, I know the scale can be calibrated. I just have not had time to do it yet. However, I did notice that the scale spring created a nice 'shock absorbing' effect when the fish tried to thrash a few times.
I will update the review if something happens in terms of durability but this thing is pretty solid so I don't foresee that being an issue. I am in the boat at least once every week so, if the unedited review is still up, it is safe to assume that I'm using this thing all the time and it is still working as advertised.
Would definitely buy again and will probably end up buying a few more as gifts.

The button to open the clamp was very rough. I would have to push the button several time to get it to work right. Overall it worked once the jaws were open.
