How wide is the 12-inch element? 3mm 4mm or 5mm?

Answer: The element itself is just a wire. You can see it pictured next to the machine. The nonstick tape covering is about 5 mm wide, but the seal in the plastic is only the thickness of the wire. It is, however, a very effective seal.

Answer: 5mm in width.

How well does this machine do using shrink wrap material?

Answer: I used it for two weeks now consistently and it works great. I think the main thing is to adjust the heat setting according to the thickness of the material/plastic.

Can seal a bubble wrap?

I work in the medical field and I am wondering would this sealer work on a Tyvek pouch?

Answer: I can’t answer your question fully, but I will say that I’ve use Mylar material such as potato chip bags and it was successful in sealing that.

it takes me 10 times to seal on kraft mylar bags, any better suggestions?

Great quality heat sealer, comes with some extra parts. Easy to set up and use and it works great! It’s pretty big, though, and not the easiest thing to store. I’m definitely keeping the rubber band it was shipped with to hold it closed because the top doesn’t stay all the way down.
As other reviewers have mentioned the extra fuses came out of the plastic packaging it was in. In my case, they didn’t break but somehow got inside of the heat sealer and wax rattling around. Luckily it didn’t break and was pretty easy to get out by unscrewing the bottom.

Not so small ... well, it is the 12 inch model. Just set the timer correctly and you're good. Go too high and it melts through, so a little trial and error is necessary.

Being a soapmaker for almost 20 years, I have gone through a few impulse sealers for shrinkwrap bags, but this is the best one I have ever used. Low temperature made a clean seal and the excess came off cleanly without being stringy. You won't regret getting this one.

Bill M. : A Terrific Heat Sealer Once You Get The Hang Of It

This heat sealer comes in an 8” model and a 12” model. I ordered the 12” model because I figured it will give me a little more capacity/flexibility. And, as it turns out, ordering the larger model was a good choice because a party size bag of Ruffles potato chips is 9.75 inches wide. ????

The sealer’s dial is adjustable from1 to 8. The dial doesn’t adjust the heating element’s temperature, it adjusts how long the heating element stays on before it automatically shuts itself off. There is a bit of a learning curve with this sealer, but I found that setting the dial to 3 or 4 is just about right for all the bags I’ve tried.

Sealing a bag generally only takes about 2 or 3 seconds. And sealing a bag for the correct amount of time is crucial. If you seal a bag for too little time, the bag will not get a good seal. If you seal the bag for too long, you will literally melt the bag into two pieces. But, with that said, it doesn’t take long to get the hang of it.

And that brings me to this little tip. To get a better seal, hold the sealing bar down for a few additional seconds after the heating element shuts off. You will know when the heating element shuts off because the red light above the dial turns off when the heating element shuts itself off.

The sealer comes with two replacement heating elements and a replacement fuse, which I think is a terrific bonus. And for normal home use I really don’t know how you’d ever go through three heating elements.

Now, if I had to complain about something, it would be that there is no latching mechanism to hold down the spring-loaded sealing bar for drawer or shelf storage. While primitive, the thick rubber band the sealer was packaged with does hold the bar down okay though. I just think they definitely should have incorporated a latching mechanism into the design.

Overall I think this is a terrific heat sealer. It has worked with no issues of any kind so far. I like it. I recommend it.

We've been using a smaller device that's not unlike a hair straightener with sealing strips. It works, but is slow and can't handle larger items.

*This* device is a very good size, handles larger items, seals very well, and is fast! My wife was thrilled at how well this performs and said "It's excellent and fast!" which, from her, is a ringing endorsement. She was able to bag her cookies/cakes in less than half the time it was taking with the older device.

I like that it comes with 2 extra heating wires, sealing strips, and fuses (though I hope the fuses are never needed).

Highly recommended.

I ordered a sealer from a different company, which died after a few bags. I contacted Amazon, and the great rep helped me with the return. I then began to research and read reviews on other machines and found this one. This sealer is fantastic right out of the gate. I seals well, has a little beep that tells you that the light has turned off and shipped quickly. A great piece of equipment!
