How wide is the 12-inch element? 3mm 4mm or 5mm?

Answer: The element itself is just a wire. You can see it pictured next to the machine. The nonstick tape covering is about 5 mm wide, but the seal in the plastic is only the thickness of the wire. It is, however, a very effective seal.

How well does this machine do using shrink wrap material?

Answer: I used it for two weeks now consistently and it works great. I think the main thing is to adjust the heat setting according to the thickness of the material/plastic.

Can seal a bubble wrap?

I enjoy using a kitchen vacuum food saver type appliance but there are lots of times I don't want vacuum like sealing a bag of chips. Also, most standard vacuum heat seal devices really struggle to seal mylar aluminized plastic bags. This does a fine job on those without vacuum which is why it is called an "Impulse Sealer". Pictures 1-4 show the big 12 inch sealer which is largely of steel construction and the 2 extra sealer wires with a heat resistant tan replacement strip. I appreciate the extra parts! That adds longevity and value.

Picture 5 shows multiple seal lines on a standard food saver type bag; the heat time on knob needs to be set so that a clear appearance not milky white results for a quality seal. Bag size, width and plastic thickness will vary considerably so I need to adjust the sealer time accordingly. A hard to seal mylar bag with coffee beans inside is in the last photo. This did seal this wide mylar bag securely using maximum time on the sealer. I was not able to reseal a big commercial mylar coffee bag successfully as it was too thick to get a solid seal.

Bill M. : A Terrific Heat Sealer Once You Get The Hang Of It

This heat sealer comes in an 8” model and a 12” model. I ordered the 12” model because I figured it will give me a little more capacity/flexibility. And, as it turns out, ordering the larger model was a good choice because a party size bag of Ruffles potato chips is 9.75 inches wide. ????

The sealer’s dial is adjustable from1 to 8. The dial doesn’t adjust the heating element’s temperature, it adjusts how long the heating element stays on before it automatically shuts itself off. There is a bit of a learning curve with this sealer, but I found that setting the dial to 3 or 4 is just about right for all the bags I’ve tried.

Sealing a bag generally only takes about 2 or 3 seconds. And sealing a bag for the correct amount of time is crucial. If you seal a bag for too little time, the bag will not get a good seal. If you seal the bag for too long, you will literally melt the bag into two pieces. But, with that said, it doesn’t take long to get the hang of it.

And that brings me to this little tip. To get a better seal, hold the sealing bar down for a few additional seconds after the heating element shuts off. You will know when the heating element shuts off because the red light above the dial turns off when the heating element shuts itself off.

The sealer comes with two replacement heating elements and a replacement fuse, which I think is a terrific bonus. And for normal home use I really don’t know how you’d ever go through three heating elements.

Now, if I had to complain about something, it would be that there is no latching mechanism to hold down the spring-loaded sealing bar for drawer or shelf storage. While primitive, the thick rubber band the sealer was packaged with does hold the bar down okay though. I just think they definitely should have incorporated a latching mechanism into the design.

Overall I think this is a terrific heat sealer. It has worked with no issues of any kind so far. I like it. I recommend it.

TooManyHobbies : Works fine, but extra fuses arrived shattered

This heat sealer works fine for sealing decorated cookies into bags. It is easy to use, and doesn’t melt or warp the plastic bags. But the sealer feels a little flimsy and I wish it had a latch to hold the handle down when it is not in use. Also, all the extra fuses arrived shattered and there were glass shards all over the box. The bag that the extra fuses was placed in was not sealed so they slipped out. Hey, you are selling a heat sealer, you should seal the bag that carry the spare parts for your machine.

It is my first time to use sealer. Try to organize my refrigerator better. The sealer helps. It is easy to use. Works on different type of bag. Timer can be adjusted to create nice seals for varying bag.

Easy to use and came with everything it said it would. I use this to seal almost all of my baked goods. Heat settings range between 1-8, I've never had to place it higher than a 2 for it to seal my bags beautifully. I would definitely recommend this product! Thank you!

Use: There's a dial on the front, but no power switch. Setting the dial controls how long the heat is on. After trying various settings and materials, I found that just over #2 works best - that's about 1 second of heat. Pressing down the arm automatically turns on the heat. The heat turns off automatically based on the number selected. It's that simple. You also don't have to press hard - push down lightly until the light comes on - no need to apply pressure.

I tried it just past setting #2 with a bunch of bags. Poly, mylar and plastic. .2mm, .1mm and .05mm - all sealed perfectly.

It also has a fuse - and two spares. Plus they include two extra heating elements and two PTFE strips.

I've already used it on over 200 bags and am 100% thrilled with it.

This Vacuum sealer sure is easy to use. First time purchased to give it a try, love how easy and fun this thing is. In few seconds is sucks all the air out if the bag, and seals it.

I got this to reseal bags to ensure freshness after opening as I recently had an infestation of weevils that caused me to have to throw away a large amount of food. This is my first heat sealer that I have used and I am impressed. It is a solid machine with a good weight to it, not flimsy at all.

As soon as you plug it in it is ready to go, just set the dial to the amount of seconds you want it to work and put your bag on there and pull down the lever. The light will go off when it is done depending on the amount of time you chose and then you leave it on there for a few seconds and remove.

This works for foil chip bags as well as plastic. The directions give recommendations for time settings for different materials. I suggest trying it on a lower setting before you increase it higher. I am very impressed with this machine and it is now on its new home on my counter.

We've been using a smaller device that's not unlike a hair straightener with sealing strips. It works, but is slow and can't handle larger items.

*This* device is a very good size, handles larger items, seals very well, and is fast! My wife was thrilled at how well this performs and said "It's excellent and fast!" which, from her, is a ringing endorsement. She was able to bag her cookies/cakes in less than half the time it was taking with the older device.

I like that it comes with 2 extra heating wires, sealing strips, and fuses (though I hope the fuses are never needed).

Highly recommended.
