What size reel for 10-30lb fish?

Answer: The bigger the fish, the more line you want to let it run and get tired. I ordered the 60 for surfcasting. 28lbs of drag means you never need more than 30lb test. Keep in mind people are reeling in massive fish on 6-10lb line. Record size marlin in the 600lb range were caught on 6lb test. They just had a few thousand yards of it to tires the fish out.

Answer: I bought the 40 class fin nor mega lite and with an appropriate rod (in my case an ugly stik) + 30 lb braided line (or stronger) it could definitely fight a 10-30 pounder. im sure if you bought the 50-80 class reel, with a little more firepower, you will have an easier time fight a 10-30 pounder, especially fish closer to the 30 lb range. hope this helps
