Can this be used for deep sea sport fishing?

Answer: NO. Two reasons a) Too small b) Saltwater is corrosive this not made for that. Look at Penn Pursuit II Spinning Reel PURII4000.

Really? How the heck is this rated so highly?? I tried to use one as a bait reel to get a few pinfish and the gears inside popped after 4 cranks of the handle and 2 pinfish that I had to handline. First and last attempt. I'll go back to using a Stradic for my bait reel. (They also suck)

So far so good. Use as a dedicated crappie reel. With quality 6lb line it cast 1/16 and 1/8 jigs well.
