Answer: Depends I up graded my hooks to Mustad and caught a 50" Muskie my first day using it....

Answer: Yes you could use them in saltwater. Not sure what fish your targeting. It's more of a freshwater bait. Also hooks will rust very fast if not washed off after salt use

Eternal Angler : Incredible Crankbait for Musky
Strike King 8.0 is an incredible crankbait for musky fishing, basically one of the best musky lures in my tackle box. It's a very consistent musky lure, it has actually caught more musky than smallmouth bass out on Lake St. Clair, which is kind of crazy considering it's a bass bait.
I've had so much success throughout the years with this squarebill musky fishing from the shoreline, my boat, and even now, my Hobie kayak. It's very a versatile lure, keep your rod tip up and you can work the shallows from the shoreline scraping the bottom. If you're musky fishing from the boat in deeper water, keep your rod tip down, even dunked in the water to go even deeper. Don't be afraid to try the 8.0 in 15-20 feet of water, the hard hitting vibration from the squarebill design will pull the musky up from the depths.
Check out my youtube channel Eternal Angler where I share even more tips in my videos on how to work this effective crankbait. I have noticed the musky love the stop-and-go retrieve, a lot of times when I'm reeling it closer to the boat, I'll give it a good stop for about 5 seconds or so 5-6 feet out from the boat, a lot of times the musky come and hammer it. This a great way to entice a strike on a followup, a lot easier than doing the figure 8, but you can try doing the figure 8 with the 8.0 if you want to, it does work.
The perch color is the most effective for any type of water clarity, but I think the combination of the bright chartreuse perch color and wide hard hitting vibration from the squarebill design shines the most in very murky water in the Fall season or murky rivers, the musky are honing in on the bright chartreuse color and vibration. I had a lot of success with the 8.0 in front of the spillway at Lake St. Clair this past August of 2020. I've even caught musky in complete mud water in front of Metro Park even in December. But after using the 8.0 throughout the whole summer this year, it's obvious to me the 8.0 is a very deadly crankbait for all seasons.
I recently tried trolling the 8.0 off the back of my Hobie Kayak, I managed to catch all three species of Esox within one day at Lake St. Clair. A huge fire tiger musky, a decent size pike, and even a great lakes spotted musky. That tells you how deadly this crankbait is for Esox.
I'm so blown away with how effective this crankbait is, I had to email Strike King, because I'm kind of worried this lure may not sell so great for bass fishing and they pull it off the market. Far as I know, most bass fishermen I know tend to go as high as the 4.0, some do buy the 8.0, but you need to use a pretty hefty rod which most bass fishermen won't purchase. Strike King recently commented on one of my youtube videos saying they're considering coming out with their own line of squarebill crankbaits for musky, that's pretty exciting news. I think this would be a smart move for the company, maybe even consider a through-wire construction and thicker stronger sharper hooks. It might be better going with Gamakatsu hooks rather than Mustad, but I do worry about extra weight throwing off the vibration of the squarebill. I've had a the bigger musky break the trebles a few times... Maybe even blowing the 8.0 in a bigger size with a 3D printer, however I think the 8.0 is a the perfect size already, as I've lost what I thought was close to a 50 incher multiple times. The smaller size compared to other lures musky fishermen cast allows you not get fatigued so easily, I can cast this crankbait for 8 hours straight and cover a lot of ground/water. Try doing that with pounders....Not going to happen! A lot of musky fishermen cast the same lures every fall, the musky see the same bulldawgs every fall. Give them something they haven't seen and the musky fishermen haven't used, think outside the box, rather than copying and doing the same thing everyone else does. And honestly, I think your back will thank you in a long run. Seeing how Tiger Woods damaged his back from the repetitive motion of swinging the club over the years and had to have back surgery, I have a hunch a lot of musky fishermen will be having back problems as they get older as well. I don't know about you, but I like to think on the lines of longevity with my own health. Sure I like throwing big rubber too from time to time as well, but I think a lot of musky fishermen don't realize what they're doing to their back with the repetitive twisting motion from ripping the Bulldawgs all the time. Just a side thought... I have also heard many new amateur fishermen getting burned out with the super expensive cost of these larger musky lures and gear... Who says you have to cast big rubber and use a baitcaster? No one, I use a Shimano Stradic C5000 and Penn Squadron 2 Surf Rod which is super light weight and reasonably priced most new musky amateur fishermen can afford, super easy to use without any learning curve. You'll cast further using spinning, cover more ground with the 8.0 which can be very beneficial from the shoreline versus a baitcaster. You can this crankbait a mile with a spinning reel like the Stradic, it cuts through the wind very easily.
Instead of casting bucktails in the summer, again try the 8.0, it works through all the seasons. This was the first year I decided to throw a hard bait more than a bladed bait and I had just as much success, some days even more success than normal. I even went 3 for 6 one day in front of the Spillway on Lake St. Clair, I suspect if I had sharper hooks, I would of landed all 6 musky. I think it's smart to have your drag tight as possible to get those treble hooks deep within the jaws of the musky.
I have tried a couple of other colors like the sexy shad and the black back chartreuse with moderate success with pike, nothing seems to work as effective as the chatreuse perch color on musky. I have a feeling that the chili craw may work good also, but I have yet to try... Strike King also makes the 10XD for deeper water, which can work good for musky as well, but I don't think it has as hard hitting wide vibration as the squarebill design from the 8.0. There's something unique about the vibration from a squarebill that really entices the musky, I even caught a decent musky on a 2.5 squarebill in the spring time out on Lake St. Clair.
