Answer: Yes it can handle a fish that size but I use it for vertical jigging and trolling so I don't know how suitable it is for a lot of casting since it is not a level-wind

Okie76 : Missile Launcher !

I put this on a rippin lips supercat 7.6 MH rod. 25lb Trileen big game mono, 8/0 circle hooks with a big ol'fat sunperch and a 2oz sinker. Catfishing from the shore this setup will send that bait out like a missile launcher. This reel was my first time using a "nonlevel wind baitcaster". I birdnested it the first couple times until I got the hang of it, now i can sling my bait out to the abyss (in the dark cause nightfishing is cooler in the summer time) and that shhhhhhhh sound it makes as my bait sails out into the blue is almost mesmerizing. I find myself at work daydreaming about that shhhhhh sound and eagerly anticipating the weekend to come. I have only had it about two weeks now so I have yet to battle anything larger than a 5lb channel cat but I have no doubts this reel will do the job.

I intend to buy a couple mopre of these Amazon so get your stock back up quick if you want my money !!!

Nice reel for the price.... I looked high and low for a $120 reel to beat this one. It was hard to do. 6:1 retrieve, extremely smooth drag, oversize crank handle, machined spool, 5 bearings, magnetic cast control, perfect line capacity, and all for $120! Mine came with a slightly defective drag adjust knob... the knurling was a little messed up from the factory. One E-mail to Okuma, had an immediate reply, and a new part in the mail 3 days later. Okuma has really stepped up their game. Buy this reel with confidence. I liked this one so much, I bought the equivalent lever drag reel in an Avet (#MXL), but it was $220!

Not sure what is about Okuma reels. People either love them or hate them. Count me as a non-hater. This reel has some really good features for the price including the adjustable magnetic brake system, dual anti-reverse (mechanical & roller bearing), stainless bearings, machined spool, etc. Surprisingly this thing also knocks down a full 18-lbs of drag. If you compare that to Avet's of the same size, that's about 2 - 4lbs more. Load this puppy up with 50lb - 65lb braid and your favorite flouro leader and you're good for just about any fish under 100 lbs.

Okuma has since updated this reel so it's now all dark gray & black instead of the flashy red anodizing. I don't think there's any mechanical difference but then I can't be 100% sure about that.
