Answer: Yes it can handle a fish that size but I use it for vertical jigging and trolling so I don't know how suitable it is for a lot of casting since it is not a level-wind

i teamed this real with the okuma CZ-661MH Cortez carbon casting rod and I am completely satisfied with the set up and price. I am using it with 40lb braid and fluro leader primarily to vertical jig for tog, flounder and sheepshead from both a boat and kayak. The weight and balance of this combo is great and I can fish all day. I love the handle and retrieve hauls in line fast which is great for pulling fish from the rocks and pilings. I also use the same setup to troll for stripers with a stretch 25 and the reel does great there also. Didnt know if I would like a this without a level wind moving back and forth to lay the line down but the shape of the body seems to move the line back and forth nicely and I have no problems with it. I recommend it. The star drag works good, the engage lever is nice and big and easy to flick with your thumb and the clicker is easy to engage.
