Questions about Ronco EZ Store Turbo 5 Tray Food Dehydrator
Q:
I got this last week and have noticed that the fruit in the back dries much quicker than the fruit in the front. Anyone else have this issue?
Answer: You don't saY WHAT KIND OF FRUIT YOU ARE DRYING, BUT I USE MINE FOR MANGO, AND IT WORKS beautifully. It's a bit difficult to be sure the plates are lined up properly. I like it because it holds a lot, but never noticed that my fruit didn't dry evenly. I love mine, but really only use it for mango.
Answer: Yes...I was very disappointed in this product. The space between layers is too slim as well.
Q:
How many watts is this model?
Answer: DETAILS
Answer: 240 Watts - My husband loves it. He uses it to make Jerky all the time!
Answer: I am not sure, but I plugged mine into one of the common household wall plugs and it worked fine. I would guess it is 120 as it is no more than just a fan and small heating unit
Q:
When using a silicone sheet to make fruit leather, do I need to cut a hole for the middle?
Q:
Is it BPA-safe?
Answer: Thank you Seashellous for your question. The Ronco EZ Store Turbo 5 Tray Food Dehydrator has BPA free trays. I hope this is of help and let us know if we can answer any other questions. We look forward to doing business with you. Regards. Family Supply Inc.
Answer: I can't think of any reason that it would'n be safe.
Answer: It's supposed to be as far as I know. Might want to check with Ronco to be sure.
Q:
What is the Temperature range that this is adjustable to? Are any of the trays designed for fruit jerky?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: The temperature range is from 95 to 160 degrees - the person who answered that there is no temperature adjustment obviously never looked at the Turbo (or even the picture) By fruit jerky, I assume you mean fruit leathers - none of the trays are designed for that - I think you could use parchment paper to cover the tray
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry! There is no adjustable temperature. The internal temperature is 133 degrees. You can definitely use the trays for drying fruit.
Q:
Where do I purchase the fruit leather tray?
Answer: I done a search on Amazon and found locations and picked the one that best for my needs
Answer: Sorry I don't know, mine
Q:
Does anyones know where i can buy the fruit trays for this now?? ive checked hsn, wayfair, rakuten, sears- all of them are sold out!
Answer: I have been using parchment paper and cut it down to size since I thought I could buy the proper trays later. That was silly! The trays are not easily found.
Q:
What can I use to slice the fruit more efficiently than a knife?
Answer: I use a mandoline slicer. A food processor's slicing blade might work as well.
Answer: Use an electric meat slicer
Q:
Does this unit come with the fruit and herb screens?
Answer: They plastic dividers set on top of each other. Not exactly sure what you mean, but I'm pretty sure you can dry fruits, not sure about herbs. We dried Macadamia nuts.
Answer: No, it only includes the five trays.
Answer: no, unfortunately. You might try buying cheese cloth and cutting it to size.
Answer: No. They are available for purchase separately.
Answer: No and we could use them.
Answer: No
Answer: No it doesn
Q:
How many food trays are there? What are the tray deminsions? Is it 18" by 18"? Thanks

Q:
Is this ok to use with beef or do i have to buy ext. Parts?
Answer: Hi Jack. You won't need any additional parts. I've made beef jerky before, using fajita sliced steak strips that I marinated overnight. Turned out very well!
Q:
Has anyone used this to make fruit leather? If so, how well does it work?
Answer: I've mde raisins with great success butnot fruit leather. Sorry
Q:
How long does it take to make kale chips using a nut paste or vegan cheeze kale chips?
Answer: Too long, thats why mine went to Salvation army
Answer: I don't know. We do not make those. We have tried to dry apples, and Okra. Honestly it doesn't work as well as the oven. It leaves everything chewy (like leather) and that is after 24 hours of trying to dry out the fruit or vegetable. We had such rotten luck with produce that we didn't even try to make Jerky. We have given up on this. Going to donate ours to Goodwill. Maybe somebody else will have better luck.
Q:
this device has an Adjustable temperature control. Can it be set to a low temp of 118 degree?

Q:
When i plugged this in the first time it started to smell like an electrical fire. The smell was coming out of the base. Is this normal?
Answer: It might be normal for first use. If it does it again, I'd contact the company. Just don't leave it unattended until you're sure.
Q:
I had the original of this dehydrator but I'm seeing a major difference in wattage with the 2nd generation. Is the new model as efficient?
Answer: i had an older one different maker , i got this and so far it has been great . i made a lot of dried fruits , and i even made chew bones for my rabbit .from the powder at the bottom of the bag he loved them , i made jerkey came out very good , i haven't had any problem drying anything so I'm pretty happy with this . now the one thing i noticed but adjusted for was the trays are lower than my other so stuff has to be thinner . all good
Answer: Definitely not. I don’t recommend the 2nd generation
Q:
are leather fruit roll up trays available
Answer: Yes, I purchased a set on HSN for 19.99. 2 fruit leather trays and 1 fine mesh for herbs were included in the set.
Q:
Is this safe to use in a Formica countertop? will the heat discolor it if it's on for several hours?
Answer: I did not notice any discoloration on our similar type counter top.
Answer: We use it in the garage so that it doesn't heat the house so I don't know, sorry
Q:
When i plug it into the wall and turn the dial, it feel like it isn't working. i don't hear any noise or feel any heat. did i get a broken one?
Answer: That's the way mine works...put some fresh fruit in and set the dial according to the instructions

where can I find replacement trays for this item? I have looked all over Amazon
Answer: https://www.ronco.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?p=4&q=Ronco+EZ+Store+Turbo+5+Tray+Food+Dehydrator+replacement+trays try this site. I located replacement tray for the Turbo you may have to look but I found them for just over 9 dollars good luck (I enjoy mine ) gail
Q:
how noisy the Turbo fan is?
Answer: Never had another to co pair it to, however, it is a fan and it is constant noise. I would co pair it to a small deck fan noise. But even those have different levels. For us it is no problem.
Answer: It is surprisingly quiet. Yes, you can hear it if standing in the kitchen, but I don't find it bothersome.
Q:
Bpa & lead free?
Q:
Does anyone know how/where I can find replacement trays? I tried a listed website from the questions and awnsers but didn't work. Thanks
Q:
can you buy extra trays
We have given up on this. Going to donate ours to Goodwill. Maybe somebody else will have better luck.
Q:
How many watts does this machine use?
Q:
Can extra trays be ordered and used? I have the original brown, round Ronco dehydrator and It had 7 trays.
Answer: I have the original brown one too and it is old but awesome. The new Ronco that we ordered is no comparison. The trays are way too narrow. I'm not aware of being able to add extra trays. I wish they'd come back with the original brown one!
Answer: Not that I know of. There might be someone else 'out there' who knows if there are compatible trays from another dehydrator. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Q:
With the shorter height, do you have problems fitting your foods in tbe trays, or having to cut your slices thinner?
Answer: I guess it would depend on what you were putting on the trays. They stack taller when in use, so there is no need to slice thinner.
Answer: The trays stack one way for storage, making the overall height shorter. however, by turning the trays (see the instructions included with the dehydrator), there is space for thicker cuts of foods. I don't cut/slice the foods thicker than about 1/4 inch. Hope this helps.
Answer: No, the trays turn 90 degrees. In one position they are very low for storage, in the other, they are taller and accommodate your foods. Works great!
Answer: You can use the tray in two different ways. One side has taller legs, so it doesn't have any problems to dry little big size of food.
Answer: If you rotate the tray 90 degrees it will expand on top of the next tray. The compact tray stacking is for storing it so it doesn't take up as much space as a normal dehydrator.
Answer: I only used it one time, did not have that problem. Sent it back after that, NOT a good product
Q:
Do you ship to 00771 (Puerto Rico)?
Answer: We might be able to do it. Place in the order and within 24 hr we will let you know.
Q:
what are the tray deminsions? Is it 18" by 18"?
Answer: I am not sure. It's closer to 15", but I would not purchase this product again. If broke on my 3rd use and will no longer turn off without unplugging it.
Q:
What is the wattage? I am looking at another dehydrator that is 700 watts
Q:
How easy is the base to clean?
Answer: The base is very easy to clean. It is also more compact than most dehydrators for easier storage as well!
Answer: It was super easy to clean. I just wiped it with a damp cloth.
Answer: Very easy-would buy it again.
Q:
can you make fruit roll ups?
Answer: I suppose it could be done. The fruit roll up might get stuck to the grating. The machine can dry all sorts of veggies and fruit. My favorite is dried kiwi, sliced about1
Q:
Do the trays contain BPA?
Answer: What is BPA?
Answer: http://thesoftlanding.com/safer-food-dehydrator-shopping-guide/
Q:
Do you have to rotate the trays?
Answer: I have only used it a couple of times but I didn't rotate the trays and the food came out as it was suppose to
Answer: no
Q:
I need trays for dehydating wet fruit in my ronco fd6000whgen?
Q:
Has anyone actually tested the temperature of their dehydrator personally? I have mine set to 160 degrees and my thermometer is only showing 118.
Q:
How fast does it dry apples or pear? And how thin do the slices have to be?
Answer: We slice bananas1/4" which might have more water content and the took a long time. We started in the evening let it run over night alternated trays and took them out just before noon. They were very thin but still chewy and not crispy. Not the best or fastest but okay for the money.
Q:
Does it work really well for drying vegetables, such as, tomatoes, bell peppers, and etc.
Answer: I have not used mine for vegetables, I make jerk and I used it for christmas decor. What I realy like about the Ronco is it is easy to clean even with sticky dripings. It has a temp settings up to 160 and you don't have to move the racks around. I did purchase a bush to use on the racks. but just socking them for a few mins. work fine. if it works for meat it should work with vegetables. I am looking forward to using it on fruit also. Good luck I give it a 5 star. gh
Answer: I've been drying mostly fruits. The only thing that didn't dry well was blueberries. I did dry some jicama ans it turnes out great.
Answer: Hi, I never used it for veges other than hot peppers such as Habs, Carolina Reaper, etc and it does a fantastic job.
Answer: It does very well for a dehydrator of its size . Recommend it to anyone who I just getting started and it has limited space .
Answer: We have only used this for making beef jerky.
Product reviews of Ronco EZ Store Turbo 5 Tray Food Dehydrator
Ralph Wilson : glad I bought it
Works great would recommend it to anyone.
Deb : Does just what I wanted it to do!
I love it, just wish it took a little less time, BUT dehydration takes time and it does the job well!
GABRIELE RADTKE : Not great
I don't like it and would send it back but with the return charges it is not worth my time for the 10.00 bucks I would get back
Eric Derr : Easy way to get into dehydrating, and a nice tool for experienced people who don't need to do more than 3 pounds at a time
This is an easy way to get into dehydrating or a nice tool to have if you are experienced and do not want to do more than 2 to 3 pounds of food at a time.
I've done, within the first week of owning this unit, 3 batches of jerky and a few sweet potato chips (nice dog treats but also nice to munch on). First, they build quality is pretty solid. Not the best, but hey, you are looking at a $50 counter top dehydrator. The lack of an off switch, while some may consider annoying, is not a big deal. Pull the plug, it shuts off. Simple. The trays themselves are of a clear plastic that seem to be a tad on the flimsy side if you were to handle too rough while cleaning. However, the trays are very easy to clean by filling a kitchen sink with hot soapy water and letting the trays rest in the water for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes a soft sponge bath and a rinse is all you need. The bottom of the unit that houses the heater and fan you will need to pick up and gently gather your crispy crumbs in a corner then dump into your trash bin or sink with a garbage disposal. It can then be wiped with a moist paper towel and finish off with a dry wipe. The lid can be softly washed and it and the trays can be placed into a drying rack.
The recipes for jerky marinade can be ignored. They are, quite frankly, equivalent to any store bought steakhouse or teriyaki marinade you can purchase at your local grocery store without the trouble of buying all the items and mixing your own. A half cup of marindade is all you need for 2 to 2 1/2 pounds of meat. The veggie recipes (as I have note tried fruit) are pretty spot on. No seasonings for my sweet potato chips. 2 pounds of sweet potatoes with 1/4 inch slice on my food slicer, a 5 minute blanch, drain, ice bath, drain, pat dry, and arrange loosely on your 5 trays. Cover and dehydrate at 145 for 10 hours rotating your trays halfway through if you can. If not, not worries since some will be a bit more crispy than others. Jerky is a 2 to 2 1/2 pound eye roast (placed in the freezer for 90 minutes to make it easier to trim and slice) with the fat trimmed again cut 1/4 inch think with the grain (that is important), marinated for 1 hour, machine on highest setting for 12 hours. Great result. If you can tell, this machine will handle about 2 to 3 pounds of food for dehydration - that is it's limitation.
As far as being "easy storage" - well, that is subjective. It isn't exactly compact being that is has 5 trays. Even when stacked for storage the unit will take up about as much space as the box it comes packaged in so be mindful of that.
Again, a great starter into the dehydrating world and a nice tool for those who are experienced.
ThunderPumpkin : I feel like it's not particularly powerful
I feel like it's not particularly powerful. I could be wrong, but it just doesn't seem to do the job particularly well when there's a lot there. That said, I may be over-stuffing the trays. Regardless, it's a cost-effective dehydrator that I've used to make everything from apple chips to beef jerky and everything has worked perfectly. The low-profile storage configuration is a nice feature for places without a lot of storage space, which I appreciate. Make sure to rotate trays if you're using all five: the top trays will take considerably longer to dry otherwise.
Emily S. : but so far I love it. I've dried apples
This dehydrator is the first one I've ever owned so I can't necessarily compare it to its competitors, but so far I love it. I've dried apples, mushrooms, peppers, and jerky since it arrived earlier this week. I'm impressed with how quickly it dried the jerky! The apples took a little longer on the recommended setting, but that might've had something to do with the south GA marshland humidity.
It's fairly easy to clean without using the dishwasher, just let the trays soak in hot soapy water and scrub them gently with a bristle brush. The heating element can be wiped down easily as well.
DNewsom : Awesome for jerky!
Works great
Kindle Customer : I didn't like this product at all
I didn't like this product at all. They trays were to close together. It didn't dry evenly. Just wasn't my thing.
I would send it back if I could. But I have had it to long, Next time I will stay with the old standby.
Sunmi Lee : Five Stars
Good design and work so good quality.
Amazon Customer : Works great in a small space.
Great for dehydration of nuts.
Robyn : Absolutey the best dehydrator for the $$
I've owned several dehydrators and this one is my favorite by far for several reasons.
1. The heat comes from the bottom of the unit which makes much more sense as heat naturally rises. When the heating unit is on the top, the heat and drying does not reach bottom rack nearly as efficiently as this one can reach the top rack.
2. The easy positioning of the racks make for easy storing and it looks good too.
3. Being clear throughout is infinitely better than not being able to see without having to unplug the unit and removing the top.
4. The dehydrating is faster and evenly distributed throughout.
5. I love the square design not just for being able to hold more of the product being dehydrated, but also stores much more efficiently when not in use.
I use it several times a week for not only myself but I have 2 large dogs who love dehydrated yam slices which are much healthier and much less expensive than rawhide or most other commercial dog chews.
Other reviewers complain about not having an on/off switch, but for me this is not a problem at all and it's the norm unless you want to pay a LOT more. This is a great dehydrator at an excellent price.

I Love Yorkies : Nice temperature range
Use the dehydrator all the time. Make chicken and turkey jerky for dog (and people) treats; buy mushrooms in bulk and dehydrate them; make orange and lemon zest for cooking & baking; dry almonds after blanching and removing skins; and this is just within the past month. Nice temperature range. Next project is sun dried tomatoes.
CRI : Very nice. Larger trays than most. Good even dehydration when rotating trays.
I have extremely pleased with these. I bought 2 so I could have more trays on one and same the other heating base as backup.
I have noticed that you do need to rotate trays 180 degrees to get 100% dehydration in a shorter time.
But I would do that anyway and did that with my previous ronco non turbo dehydrator.
R H Dusenbury : Nice Product
Very nice unit. Its square design allows a more efficient placement of the fruit or whatever is drying. It dries food very quickly if it is cut thin. Apples, mango, kiwi, bananas, peppers plus many more dryable items. It stores very easily. I just need to watch the Ron Popiel infomercial to explore the many uses this dryer has.
Kindle Customer : Not as great as we had hoped.
We were hoping it would really work. It didn't dry anything really well. You have to leave it for a really long time. We are able to dry fruits and vegetables better in the stove and in less time. We are disappointed. We couldn't get fruits and vegetables completely dry, no matter how thin we cut them. So we did dare try meat.
Sunshinedunes1 : Great dehydrator!
We have dehydrated several types of vegetables anywhere from peppers to carrots. The square trays give ample room to dehydrate bunches of fruits, veggies, meats, etc. The temperature dial is a must have, though we wished it had an on/off button. That is the only downside to this machine so far. Stores easily and is pretty compact. We do suggest getting the mesh mats for any items that are small or juicy.
Anne : Package comes in broken
It's a gift to someone for Christmas on her register list. Come in just now package all broke before I touch it. Not going to open more till Christmas. Hopefully things ok inside
GSJ : Works as intended
So far I am very pleased with this. I have dried sweet potatoes, spam and peppers and it works just fine. Easy to clean. Slightly noisy.

Got this for a wedding gift several years ago. Took it out to use it today and it’s dead out of the box.
Amazon Customer : great jerky and fruit dehydrator
love it bought 2 of them ,i would of liked it better if the trays allowed for thicker items ,but its definitely a great item the heat adjustment is great my jerky and fruits have all come out great love it
loripori : Good Product But Takes Too Long
Takes too long. I have friends with dehydrators which do a much faster job.
O. Grummt : Five Stars
This is a great dehydrator. I used it several times
Joshua Liste : Not turbo speed, but works
So far I have made only apples. It does the job, but i don't think the turbo 2X claim lives up to it's name. Apples take 15 hours to complete, cut at 3/16" size. The space saving stacking is very nice, fits on top of my convection oven and under the counter.
Loretta S Jennings : Horrible awful wouldn't buy it again!!!!!
I was really anxious and waiting to get this package. That to my dismay even though it says it has a temperature gage on it I don't believe it does. It does have a knob temperatures printed but it doesn't matter if I cook it data hundred and 35 or by cook it at 95 whatever gets done in the same length of time it was getting done to bastard hundred and 35 so I turned 10° still was getting down to best much much less than what the books that she did so I turned it down as far as of ago and it still gets done at same time. I am very disappointed in this product and would leave regarding word about whether or not anybody else should buy it. The only reason I got two stars because it was delivered in a timely fashion.
sue : Not good for dehydrating liver for dog treats
Not good for dehydrating liver for dog treats, was on 160 for 24 hours and liver was still pink inside. DO NOT RECOMEND. Will go back to a cuisinart!!!
Vickiana R. : Not what i expected
The box it came in was damaged, 2 trays had cracks.
Did not come with instructions.

Jane Wurts : I used this product one time and it will no ...
I used this product one time and it will no longer turn off or allow me to adjust the temperature.
Bannin : I do like the idea of re-positioning them for storage
A little disappointing because it's noisier than my old Ronco and I find it difficult to stack the trays for use. They don't "lock" together very well. I do like the idea of re-positioning them for storage, making the stack shorter. I'd still recommend it to my friends, but with the advice to take care not to bump the unit and knock the trays out of whack. It dries fruit and veggies very nicely and evenly.

This is a great dehydrator at an excellent price.
sue : Not good for dehydrating liver for dog treats
Not good for dehydrating liver for dog treats, was on 160 for 24 hours and liver was still pink inside. DO NOT RECOMEND. Will go back to a cuisinart!!!
Kelly : Broken
Bought it had to return it, was broken.
Carol Ann Marie : Would Buy Again
Purchased as a gift. My cousin loves it. She used it late summer and early fall to dry all of her herbs.
Jean : It works great! The only drawback
The day after we received this, we started using it and have not stopped. It works great! The only drawback, is that it does not have an off/on switch. You have to plug it in to start, and unplug to stop. Otherwise it is great. We can do so much at one time with the multiple trays. And they are so very easy to move around when you ar dehydrating.

Amazon Customer : Works great in a small space.
Great for dehydration of nuts.
MARY WATSON : Incomplete Shipment
I did not receive the user manual or the recipe book.
Susan D Lewis : Excellent quality!
Arrived yesterday. Made beef jerky, very quickly dried in less than three hours.
