Answer: Yes. I've dried morels and trumpets in mine. Most any mushroom could be dried in it, although some species like chicken of the woods and other polypores don't dry well. Most any store bought mushroom can be dried.

Is this dehydrator good for tomato seeds?
Answer: I really don't know how to answer this question other than to ask why you would want to us the dehydrator to dry them? I just wash mine off and put on a paper towel to dry-but I am sure you can get better instructions on drying them on youtube. I wouldn't spend the money on the Excaliber for that, but if your really interested in getting one, I love this product and would highly recommend it. One thing I learned this year is tomato skins can be dehydrated and made into tomato powder. Throw some in meat dishes and soup for an extra "pop" of flavor.
Answer: Yes but you u would need to add the Teflon sheets on the trays as the seeds would fall through the standard mesh that comes with the dehydrator.

Answer: The other response gives the information you want. I love mine, it is easy to clean and load. The footprint is of course pretty big, so I have placed it outside the house into our swimming pool cage and cover it with a piece of plastic or a towel when it is not in use..

I am so glad I ended up buying this type of dehydrator and not the round one. It does make noise but like a background noise and not annoying. The timer function is just worth everything. You can turn it on and leave. I don't garrantee to be in the house for the next 6 hours but the timer will turn it off and Voilà

We were expecting a high quality product. This is junk. The front won't stay on. The sheets are very fragile looking the little plastic trays are flimsy. Reading the instructions the drying time is almost as long as drying the fruits and vegetables outside.
gilbert richmond : Irritatingly vibrating loud
I've tried leveling it but its still too loud. Right now, there is 'duck tape' on the door of it to reduce the vibrating noise of the door hitting the trays or sides. The TV has to be turned up to double the volume to be heard, the noise puts you in a bad mood within an hour or so. The Dehydrator has only been used 3 times because its so loud, the door gets loose and slides to a side and starts vibrating to a different pitch every 10 minutes or so. I suggest you find a more quiet dehydrator unless you use it in a garage. The door has not been engineered or thought out well.

Primarly use the dehydrator to make chicken jerky for our dog. Take a little longer than the larger Excalibur we had but does the job. Easy to clean. Safer with the auto off setting than a few other models.

We began using this to dry food for backpacking. My husband has dried just about anything that can be dried with amazing results. It is also perfect for making yogurt. The upside to its size is that we can fit 4 quart bottles of yogurt at a time into the unit. No more plastic yogurt containers headed to the recycling bin for us. Size is also the only downside to this unit, but it is easy enough to move around and store some place besides the kitchen if you don't have counter space for it. We strongly recommend this dehydrator.

So far, there is NOTHING to be displeased about with either of my Excalibur dehydrators. If I had waited until the budget could have handled it, I would have purchased the 9-tray one, but I allowed my eagerness to do well by my family in these troubled times, to override my normally cautious nature. I have no real regrets, however, and am thrilled with my "Made in the U S A" purchases!!
I continue to happily find countless suggestions, recipes & ideas on the 'Net, so the ease & convenience of my dehydrators will cause them to pay for themselves, in no time!

Amazing product. I bought this to dehydate liver to make treats for my dog. It works perfect for that, but I have also learned about a new world of cooking.
I now use it to dehydrate bad fruit and make fruit leathers, I also use it for spices.
It does make as much sound as an air conditioner and certain foods do smell up the house. I live in a loft, and it doesn’t bother me that much.
The item did come with a crack but amazon did make things right.
