Questions about Eagle Claw 10020-002 Trout Net, Classic Bamboo, 15" x 11" x 9"
Q:
Picture shows bamboo net. Ordered ot and now its a metal one. Whitch one is it?
Answer: The one we have is wood, just like the picture.
Q:
Is it metal frame like picture or bamboo like description?
Answer: Bamboo. Great inexpensive net. Still going great after two years and lots of fish!.. :)
Answer: I have had mine a while but it is wood and good quality!
Q:
Is there a replacement net available?
Q:
Is this truly less than 3.5 ounces?
Q:
Is 15" the overall length or just the basket length?
Answer: The basket is 15" and a little. Used this quite a bit this summer. I only use a net on larger fish, so I was doing well. I had no trouble putting bigger fish in this net. Fly did not hang up. NOTE, I cut about two inches off the handle. I also sanded the handle down a little. Just made it fit my hand the way on want. I would by again. New handle length is 21". So 23 out of the box.
Q:
How deep is the net? Is it intended specifically for catch and release?
Answer: The net is 11 inches deep. The frame is 9 inches wide and 15 inches long. Don't know if specific for catch and release?? Not sure what that means!!!
Q:
Is this actually 3.5 ounces as advertised?
Answer: Feels like it.

Ron Hinze : Wow!
Wow, great seller, product, and price!

Completely shattered went it fell once. And it was light fall. Poorly made if it can't handle falling less than 6 inches how can it handle a fish.
jojo : Great for fly fishing
Perfect fly fishing net. Light weight and easy to handle in chest high water. The elastic lanyard is great to hang over your back and looped thru the wader suspenders. Very satisfied with this product
Norseman : Great

Nickb2 : Great Net for Troutfishing /Need Clip.
Good item for Trout Fishing. Needs Clip on loop. Holds up well.
Bean01 : Not Impressed
I ended up purchasing one similar from Orvis due to the poor quality of this one from Eagle Claw. The netting was loose and wasn't properly attached to the wood and the wood had splinters on the inside of the net. I wasn't impressed with the quality even though it was inexpensive. Yeah I ended up paying around $60.00 at Orvis but the quality is so much better and well worth it. Wasted my money on this one.

More than expected for the price.

Overall great product for it's price point, however hooks with barbs do get stuck to the netting. Caution for those that use lures.

Kenneth : Great price!

Robert B. Cushman : Net results!
This and another size net were purchased a year or so, ago. We have a series of ponds in our back yard that require cleaning in the deep sections. (We keep the water flowing 24 hours a day, throughout the year, to keep the fish healthy, even through the sub-zero winters of the New Mexico high desert . . . 7,100 feet) Black "silt" is too heavy to pump with portable pumps (the "silt" appears liquid, but is more like thick ketchup, being from the roots of water lilies, cat-tails, and other plants). The fine mesh of these trout nets is perfect for scooping up the silt and dumping it out into the bordering gardens and lawn. I also have need to transfer the tiny baby fish from one pond to another. Although I cannot net and transfer the big Koi (the bears have left us two), the smaller gold fish under a foot in length are better handled with a soft net. Nets from Home Depot or Walmart, etc., are too coarse and/or not soft enough to do the job, and the handles are too weak. Working in the ponds requires me to go into the water from as early in Spring when I can stand to be in the cold water, to late fall.
Unlike many ponds, these ponds are complete ecological systems . . . I don't even need to feed the fish . . . even the two-foot long Koi. There are hundreds of smaller fish, and snails (including Japanese "Trap Door Snails" from the original ten snails I purchase about 25 years ago), plus the critters that live in the rocks and crawl up the water-plants to spread their wings into large dragonflies, etc. The soft netting makes it easy to sort out these delicate little creatures without harm and return them to their home.
These two nets are perfect for the job. They are two separate brands, but appear to be made "by hand" in the same Chinese factory. They are well made, with the net tied in a groove around the perimeter, protecting it from the wear of scraping it on the sand and/or neoprene pond liner. (Other nets tend to wear out from this sort of thing, and also from the intense sun light at high altitude.) The two nets appear to be a soft Nylon that are impervious to ultraviolet light and long outdoor exposure, but I keep them hanging in the stairwell to the basement.
The nets feel good . . . the wood reminds me of fly fishing years ago in the Sierra's with my split bamboo fly rods. I'm too old to hike in the mountains any more or body surfing at 15th street at Newport, California, (77) but I have my life-time dream of a stream and ponds in my own back yard high on a mountain. Having good equipment helps this old man better enjoy taking care of this little bit of water and fish, and the year round sounds of water rushing through a series of falls.

Browncoats Unite! : Nice trout net
This net is lightweight and appears to be well-made. The removable lanyard is a large piece of elastic shockcord that is large enough for carrying the net across your torso. Great buy.
Tim-in-ny : good fish net
i use it because its easy to reach the fish from shore,,Most of the shores i fish have sloping shores
Big brother watches : Good trout net for the price.
Good trout net for the price.
Matt Lucas : poor quality
cord broke first day out.
Kindle Customer : It will work....
The handle on the net is all rough as if it wasn't sanded down before the cheap "stain and finish" that was applied so its not comfortable to hold, plus its all sloppy work, and its definitely not bamboo might be some cheap plywood.... I will be using it in a week so we will see how the net it self holds up. who knows I might have to use my sons toy net from target that was only a dollar.. :-/

deejis : I just threw away a net exactly like this one when I had to cut the net ...
The picture of the net I ordered was aluminum framed with a green net with larger openings. I just threw away a net exactly like this one when I had to cut the net to remove a lure. Now I have TWO MORE!!!! It will cost more to return them than they cost. Should have went to Cabelas!!!!

Kyle Busch : Three Stars
Finish quality is lacking.
Truth : Not a happy customer.
Hooks frequently were snagged in the netting material.
A : Many nets to choose from- ---this one is excellent !!!
Super little net. Have already used it many times and it is light, but strong and easy to maneuver.
Amazon Customer : Good for someone new to trout fishing
Pros:
Lightweight and easy to carry
Economical
Made out of cotton which doesn't remove as much fish slime as nylon
Works great for landing average sized (9-12") stocked trout and smaller
Cons:
Hole spacing is too close (easy for a hook to tangle it)
A little bit on the narrow and shallow side for fish > 15" (particularly for fat stocked trout)
I would recommend this net if you are on a tight budget and/or just getting started in trout fishing. Or if you are traveling and don't want to risk losing/damaging a more expensive net. Or if you keep the trout you catch. If you want to catch and release your fish, invest the extra $$$ on a rubber net. It will be worth it. That is what I ended up doing after using this net a few times.
I caught and landed some feisty trout using this net. I found that a couple times if the fish shook a certain way when I hooked them that the hook would get caught it the net and tangle it. Fortunately for me, I was using single hooks which aren't too hard to untangle. But if you get a lure with treble hooks tangled, good luck.
I practice catch and release. Therefore to increase the odds of the fish surviving for the long term, I prefer to keep the trout in the net and underwater when I unhook them. Some of the larger feisty trout ( > 15") I landed with this net, it was little hard to unhook the fish without removing them from the net because it was tight. But if you are keeping your fish you don't need to worry about that.

lostintheswamp : Very Pleased.
I know next to nothing about fishing, but I bought this thinking that I'd take my grandson out and see if we can't net something since he's itching to go fishing. He is 4.5 years old and as much as he really wants to catch a fish, I know he will get upset to get a fish with a hook in it's mouth and so will I, probably, even though I do eat fish. And, with endless watching of Wild Kratts, he will want to ''release it back into the wild'', so I thought trying a net would be good for us. We can catch, look, and release. That said, this is a very well made net that will hold a good sized fish. It's strong and has already been played with a lot around the house with no damage at all. I can't really claim to be a good judge of of nets, but I can tell that this one is very sturdy and the net is strong. The short handle makes it very easy to use, and I can't wait to get out and try our luck in the bayous of Louisiana with it.
