Answer: YES, You can reverse the handle for either right hand or left handed casting. It`s a very smooth release and the bail opens with minimal amount of pressure.

What size do recommend for freshwater trout?

Answer: Depends on the rest of your rig. Light line (4-6 lb) works fine on the 1000 size. The 2500 can also work, and add the flexibility of larger freshwater fish like bass.

Answer: I have the 4000 which I often use for 10 to 15 lb or so Striped bass.... If you are looking for something to catch small Brookies or Rainbows up to say 2 or 3 lb a 2500 is plenty. I don't see it advertised in the Spirex model but the Shimano Syncopate in 2500 works well, is lower priced and still has the trigger.

Hello I want to order one of these for my lightweight 5'6 rod. Which model size do you recommend. I don't want it to be to big for the rod.

Answer: I guess it depends what you want to fish for. I use the 1000 for light action rods and my shorter rods 6' 6'6" but have used it on a 7' light and have caught fish. For my medium action rods and anything 7' and up I use the 2500 or 4000

Answer: I don't think it's too heavy, but it does have some weight to it. Wouldn't consider it to be a light weight reel, however, for the price, it is one of the smoothest reels you can own. Mine took an hour or so to smooth out, but it is very nice now. I'd get another one.

Which size is recommended for a ultra light rod. It's difficult to tell size online.

Answer: I'd get the Spirex 1000 for most UL rods. The 4000 would be way too big. You might get away with the Spirex 2500 if you have a longer UL rod, say above 6 1/2 ft, but for most UL rods the Spirex 1000 is the way to go.

Answer: 2500 is the same size as a 2500 president from pfluger it is the lager middle size. This is a good size for most inland lakes.

Answer: Yes! You can change it from right to left by just removing the handle's set screw.

Answer: I ordered the 1000, if you know the line sizes of the 4000 select the different items in the drop down thing then look at the specs. By comparing to the listing for the 4000RG line size 8.10.12 the one described as medium light should be the 4000FG.

Best reel I have ever used... preferred the rear drag but they stopped making it... so.... this one works great.

Only used this thing once so far, so time will tell about durability, etc. I have the 4000 model. Paired it with a 7' inshore rod and 15# braid. Great combo. Reel is very smooth, love the trigger, feel is great, but its a heavy reel. Heavy as in it weighs a lot. I could see a full day of fishing with this thing being somewhat tiresome, but if you get to spend an entire day fishing, you better not be complaining. Would definitely buy again. Good reel at a good price.

I am hooked (pun intended) on Shimano reels. Previously, I have used three of the plastic variety and am accustomed to the quick fire release. When it came time to upgrade, I decided to get another quick fire model. I am actually pretty pathetic without that button...

This one is like silk compared to my old plastic models. Also, I found no spooling or line issues after a week of hard fishing for Northern Pike in Canada using Fireline. I also appreciated the smooth drag compared to the rear drag models I have owned. In fact, the drag worked well on everything from a 38" northern to a 18" Smallmouth without any readjustment. I wasn't sure about the two handles, large spool and weight but found them all to be beneficial for Northern Pike fishing. Did I mention my 29" and 32" Walleye? A trip to remember......

This is the second unit I purchased. Wanted to have two in the boat in case one does break in Canada or to quickly change lures.

I like that this is a trigger spin reel and dependable and at a good price.Trigger spin reels are the most balanced of all reels,instead of the reel fitting on top of the rod they fit on the bottom and can be cast without using both hands as you have to do with regular spinning reels.Underspin or trigger spin reels whichever you want to call them help you keep your eyes on the fish

Just buy it, the reel is ok, except the hand a bit inconvenience when keeping it & the guide for the spool away return to the casting position maybe it is design for convenience one hand casting. Overall a good model!
