What color should I get this in?

Answer: Depends I got the silver shad because it is more like the color of the minnows in the lakes I fish but I'd recommend the same strategy for you but with the lakes you fish. If you don't know get the silver it worked for me.

Answer: Probably not, its small and the hooks are tiny. I normally use this for casting and have landed a sizeable tarpon even though the hooks are small. W Holder : One of my favorite new lures.

I am relatively new to using this type of lure. I recently moved to a different area, and am trying to change my fishing style to match the new techniques required.

This lure is great for med retreive rates. Too fast and it seems to get too wobbly and fish stop biting. Too slow and it doesnt seem to attract them as well. I have managed to catch some nice bass, a few big ones, and also caught many croppy and other small fish. The smaller fish are due to my fishing areas loaded with them, not that this lure necessarily attracts them best.

Lure sinks quickly, but seems to hover around the 3'-4' mark.

This is a great lure, relatively lightweight though, which impacts my casting until I get it dialed in for a lure of this weight. Performs well, they go after this lure, and once they bite, none have gotten off.

Great lure to add to your box.

Im catching fishes with this lure. Its small size comes in handy sometimes when the fishes aren't coming onto the bigger lures. If you got kids, this might be good for them. You can catch small baitfish up to 5 pounders with this thing. I'm satisfied!

keithfoco : My go-to lure for everything. If nobody is catching anything, tie this on and get ready to take them to school.

The best fishing lure made in my opinion. I have caught everything from crappy, bass, bluegill, trout, wiper, walleye and northern pike on a jsr-5. It catches big and small. I have even caught baby bass that are smaller than the lure with this thing. I have also caught a 3 foot long northern pike with it. I have the best luck trolling it here in northern colorado. I used to be a spinner guy until i found a shad rap (regular) and started catching fish like crazy with it. I bought the jsr-4 and jsr-5 after hearing about jointed crankbaits and it took my fishing to a whole new level. I get best results with a medium speed, constant retrieval method or trolling 1.5- 2 mph. Cant say enough about this lure. Worth every penny.

kone : Jointed Shad Raps - A Tackle Box Essential

I have fished with regular Shad Raps for over two decades (they catch fish), but only recently tried a jointed Shad Rap on the advice of a fellow fishing buddy). I found the jointed Shad incites more strikes (especially for bass and Northern Pike) than the regular shad rap. The jointed tail sends out vibrations that mimic an injured minnow (easy prey for a predatory fish). You can feel these vibrations in the line as you reel in the lure. This jointed shad will dive about 8 feet with a retrieve, but can also be weighted for a deeper retrieve along drop-offs. My favorite color is the silver variety. The lure is well-designed, sturdy, and hooks are sharp trebles. Line ties on the lip ring (for northern pike use a steel leader about 8 inches long). Deadly on bass, trout, Northern Pike, and Walleye (trolled at evening or night in the shallow waters).

I have caught bluegill, smallmouth, largemouth, stripers, yellow bass, and just earlier today I pulled in a walleye on this thing. I have used it fishing 7 times so far (about an hour each "time") and have pulled in 6 "keepers" in varying weather conditions and locations. I own over 60 lures and this is the only one I use now. The old guys around where I live are wondering why I am catching fish and they aren't. Buy this lure, just don't use it on my lake because I want to keep it my secret for a while ;)

This is my favorite lure for catching bass, crappie, pickerel, and walleye. I have success with this lure every time I go fishing.
Great all round lure for fresh water fishing. The action is very natural and this lure for it's size works well to catch fish from the 10'' to 24'' range depending on the species. This lure has played and welcome and successful role as part of my tackle box.

This is the 1.5 inch version, kind of small but what great action. Good casting weight though. I have had good sized fish (bass over 5 lbs) follow this right up to shore. I catch mostly bass with it but have had some really, really big bluegill and crappie nail it. Lifelike action you can`t really fish it "wrong" For the bigger bass I use the 2.75" version of this. 40+ years of fishing I have always sworn by Rapala lures. Sure you can buy cheaper imitations, but these things always swim true and catch fish, period.

When you reel it back in, let it sink for about 15 - 20 seconds and then real it back in slowly and to really get the attention of the big fish, pull the rod til you feel it vibrate and immediately continue to reel it in slowly. Caught 13 Rainbow Trout with this baby and I love it!
