Waited till the end of Memorial Day weekend to go out to the lake. Monday evening and every inch of shoreline had been hammered over the past several days, people all over the place and no one catching anything when I got out there. Then just about everyone left as the sun started to go down and the lake got real quiet. I tied on the big Rap and started fishing parallel and real close to the shore and the bass went nuts on it. Every couple of casts as I walked along and another one would hit. Mostly angry 1 1/2 lb males with a few bigger ones up to around 3 lbs mixed in. Very decent for that lake. Lost track of how many.

Fish it slooooww so it almost looks like a lazy snake rippling the surface of the water or a broken back fish. Go ahead and use the big one; all kinds of fish will hit it. I even had bluegill slamming into a 5 inch lure. Fish it in the dark and listen for that smack. So much fun. One problem I've had is having a Tiger Musky nail it and saw it off so I had to buy another one.

For some reason, no matter what else I am trolling with, the rainbow trout pattern always catches more fish - everything from King Mackerel to Jack Trevally and Spanish Mackerel. I have had days in Belize where this was the only lure catching fish!

Grateful Fred : Probably THE BEST Small & Largemouth Lure EVER!!! (Southeast)

This has always been one of my go to lures for bass fishing, and works well with both small & large mouth. I understand it's a good speckled trout lure too...I'll find out Friday on the Piankatank in Virginia. If I had to pick one just lure for freshwater bass...The gold Rapala broken-back size 11 would be one of the two I'd consider. Size 12 works well later in the season. The other possible choice would be the 4 and a half inch, albino shad Slug-go.

This thing just continues to produce for me unlike any other lure this year. I walk it on the surface slowly in between lily pads beds and near stream outflows in the river. I’ve caught mid size largemouth, Big smallmouth, and Small and mid size striped bass with this lure along with an occasional larger pickerel. Has held up over 40 catches and is still going. I ordered the next size up and the next size down also and will review those when I get them. This is a great topwater bait for open water.

This lure, like the original floater isn't flashy, but it flat out works. This particular size (J11) is my favorite. It's a lure that is so versatile. Fish is slow with tons of action. Hold your rod tip high and watch it slither on the surface like a snake. Twitch it between reeling, pause, and watch as it rises to the surface. This lure does it all except go deep. However, with some sinkers you could fish it deep. Do not pass this lure up. Fish it above weeds and cover at a slow speed and watch the fish come in the boat!
