Answer: It's a good sharp knife with a good curve to the blade. Can be used on any fish that's big enough to filet.

Answer: I think so, but it's not the best idea to dishwasher fillet knives, due to their thin construction.

AK1989 : Great knife for $7.00 !!!
I purchased two of these knifes for some kitchen cooking at a remote jobsite. Just wanted a cheap knife to use and to leave behind. I was pleasantly suprised at the quality for $7.00. It is a very pretty knife with the wood handle, stainless steel blade and handle frame. The blade is very firm and sharpens nicely. I have bought cheap fillet knifes before where the blade is very thin and warps/bends easily, this one does not. I have not filleted any salmon with it yet, which I have done a lot, but will give it a try. I have some expensive fillet knifes for that chore but I will give this knife a try. The scabbard is nylon, it seems to work okay. You really have to push the knife in to get it to sit all the way down, but seems sturdy and will protect the blade nicely.

Bought it, regretted it immediately. Out of the box, the handles are mis-matched and mis-ground, one side of the blade is hight at the top and low at the edge, other side is opposite, so it looks ridiculous. The blade is bent. Not crazy bent, but a blade should be straight, thats the ONE thing you can't really screw up, but they did. I wanted to like it, I wanted to polish it and give it to a friend actually, but I have to return it because the quality is far too poor. Lots of good reviews for this and I'm sure just like most stuff from China, generally they're ok but there's lots of QC issues and bad ones in the bunch. Well, I got a bad one, and I'm sending it back. Take a chance here if you must, but for $10 there's better knives out there.

Other than that.....nicely balanced and sharp blade and flexible enough to fillet perch ( which was my test fish for it). The wood handle and contour of it, gave me better control of the knife, which I also greatly appreciated.
If you can wait...it's worth the time and dime to have in the cutlery.

Okay...I'll admit I'm not that great a knife sharpener....but I can put an edge on a knife sharp enough to cut paper under it's own weight. Unfortunately, I've haven't even been able to do that with this filet knife. I have several types of stone and ceramic sharpeners...none of them worked?
Been using it steady since I got it, and last night it was in need of a little bit of sharpening. Finally had to give up and get my Schrade Uncle Henry Filet knife to finish the task at hand of dressing out and fileting 7 catfish.
Don't know what the trick is in sharpening it....maybe some good folks will clue me in. Until then, it sits in the cupboard drawer unused.
Other than that.....nicely balanced and sharp blade and flexible enough to fillet perch ( which was my test fish for it). The wood handle and contour of it, gave me better control of the knife, which I also greatly appreciated.
If you can wait...it's worth the time and dime to have in the cutlery.

I was impressed with the previous reviews and thought for the price it would be worth it. Unfortunately it showed and and was super dull. After running it through a ceramic sharpener its starting to get a bit of an edge but I don't think it'll ever be like a factory sharp blade. Will probably return it. Also, not as thing and flexible as I was expecting.

I love the knife for the ability to filet and do its job, it is just too big for my small gear bag, it hangs out the top. Also the sheath is not the best quality and if you arent careful (and I wasnt) it will stick you with the tip!

it has a full tang, wood handles and comes with a sheath. It came very sharp out of the box
and seems to be a solidly constructed knife, simple and sturdy.
I bought a Mustad about a year ago and the first time I used it , the handle became loose.
It has a fancy rubber grip handle, plastic vented sheath, but not a full tang, I don't trust it anymore.
