Answer: I have used filet knives for deboning pork shoulders and trimming fat from briskets, but this isn't a boning knife. Victorinox makes boning knives, as do other manufacturers.. I would suggest you get a 6 inch flexible blade boning knife for this.. just type in the Amazon search box for Boning Knives.. you should get a buttload of hits.
Answer: Fillet knives are ideal for fish because the thinness and shape of the blade allows for better maneuverability for removing skin. Boning knives have a thinner blade than most other kitchen knives but they typically aren't as thin as fillet knife blades, and are not necessarily flexible. This reply is found on Google.com.

Answer: Main thing is to get a good sharpener, since as sharp knife has a precise angle in the blade I recommend a sharpener not a stone! too hard to control at least for beginners. So get a sharpener that has a" V" looking groove which you run over the blade, the "V" may be made of ceramic or hardened tungsten carbide. Great Knife!

I've only cleaned 2 nice channels and 1 nice striper with it and to be fair I had my shorty stiff knife with me on both of those. I bought this 7 1/2" for filleting the skin off of filets and pushing threw longer fish and for that if kept sharp it works fine.

Answer: The coating makes a marginal improvement, mainly when skinning. It’s not a big difference. The 6" blade is great for panfish and should be fine for most walleye. If you catch a lot of bigger walleye then go with the 7-1/2 inch blade.
Answer: I use a 4” and 6” blade. I LOVE this coated 6” blade A LOT. It’s not as fast as using an electric knife, but close. It’s SUPeR sharp.

Great knife. A great fish fillet knife but I use it often to trim meat or to de-bone. If used just for work on meat, not hacking thru cartilage, certainly never on a vegetable, it may never need sharpening. Not just for fisherman. Every kitchen should have one.

I've never had a problem with cleaning fish, so, for decades, I have not only cleaned those that I've caught, I usually have friends & family bring their catch to me for cleaning as well. I have even received a free Canadian fishing trip just so the group would have a resident fish cleaner. Being a sucker sometimes pays off eh? Because of this I have made "friends" with more than one filet knife over the years. I have only used the Superflex Knife one time, but it was a 6 hr. cleaning session so I think I have a good feel for it at this point. The blade is indeed more flexible than the regular Rapala, but not excessively so. The one thing that I did notice, which isn't the knife's fault, is that I was having a little control issue with the Superflex blade. I attributed this to the black coating on the blade, which allows it to slide through the filet easier. Once I adjusted for that, by using lighter pressure on certain cuts, I was back in the groove. More than likely this will be my newest "friend", at least on the smaller fish, but will probably rely on the regular Rapala's heavier blade when dealing with heavier boned fish. All & all the Superflex Knife is an excellent choice for those looking for something a little more flexible than the regular Rapala, which is also a good knife in the humble opinion of this fish cleaning "sucker." I have cleaned so many fish with my regular Rapala that the blade & I have become one, which may be why I experienced the minor "control" issue with the Superflex Knife.

While this is a good knife, I wish that it had a better edge to it when I bought it. I couldn't decide between the Rapala or the Bubba blade. I choose this one because the ratings were higher. I did take it to someone to sharpen for me and it was Great after that. Hence, the 4 stars.
I'm sure that a person with sharpening skills will have no trouble with this knife at all.

One of the better fillet knives I've owned over the years. I use it for smaller pan fish and others that have pin bones that are tough to remove from the fillet. The blade has excellent flex to it and holds an edge well. Interested to see how the wooden handle holds up over time, as it is only stained and not sealed or polyurethened. Good knife.

My knife, which says made in Estonia, is so dull, right out of the packaging, I can drag my thumb down the blade, pressing downward against the blade, without cutting my thumb. I think this knife must have skipped the sharpening except that the teflon coating was slightly removed near the "cutting" edge. They did something to it but sharpen it wasn't one of the things they did. Shame because I really like the look of it and the flexibility of the blade. If it had come with a sharpener I would sharpen it and try it but as it is I'm just going to return it.

The knife itself is fine. Sheath is well made and the blade is coated with a non stick surface. What's not too love? It isn't really very sharp. I've had several Rapala knives that are wicked sharp when they arrive. This one, is just ok. I'll have to spend time working on it, or it will just sit in a drawer forever. My wife prefers a 20 year old filet knife that I've just about honed the blade to nothing.

He was the one that taught me how to fillet a fish, and he used a Rapala fillet knife. I've occasionally tried other brands, but 40 years later I'm still using Rapala. And with good reason--I got more than 10 years out of my last knife (which I still use around the kitchen), and thought I'd upgrade a little with its replacement. The PTFE non-stick coating on the blade does indeed help this knife remove the fillet from the skin more smoothly. I didn't notice a major difference on the other cuts--just the super sharp and supple performance I've come to expect from a Rapala. Expect an update on Rapala's latest offerings in another 10 years!
On a side note, this product makes a really great sidekick for the Rapala fillet knife. While you can tell I'm a big Rapala fan, this one does a better job than the little Rapala sharpeners.

Came with a bent blade tip (approximately 1" from the tip) and does not hold an edge like you come to expect from Rapala. Blade is a little too flexible for my tastes, but has its uses. Good luck acquiring and keeping an edge......steel is sub par for a knifeblade.

This knife is nice looking, comes with a leather sheath and is easily packable in the 4” size. My biggest complaint is that I cannot get it sharp enough (or keep it sharp enough) to easily clean a stringer of fish. A couple fish at a time? Sure. Many at a time? Not quite. I also would not recommend it for a camp knife that gets used for lots of different purposes. Rapala makes a similar 4” model with a stainless blade and black handle that works quite a bit better. Ive been using these small knife types for years and prefer the Rapala stainless model over all.

I have had a Normark knife for 30 years and it was time to replace. The blade was finally not holding an edge and the handle had seen better days, but that knife has probably cleaned up thousands of fish. This new knife is a perfect replacement. The handle feels great and grips well, the blade is very sharp and flexible. One key is the teflon coating on the knife which helps move is along. Will fit right in.

Great knife, I have cleaned thousands of fish with Rapala fillet knifes.We use them while camping and cooking also. when they are wore out I give it to my wife and we use it in the kitchen. Great for deboneing a whole ham and carveing a turkey. I wish they made all kinds of knifes, they are missing a ready made market. With all the guys that have their knifes .

This is my favorite meat cutters knife. I use it to debone deer, and cut steak etc. It is very flexible and allows you to flex the blade around bone and / or following the contours of the bone structures to expertly separate meat from bone. OH it does well on smaller fish too.

Got the 6 inch aiready have the 4. Inch. Arrived well packaged was sharp out of the clam pack, this 6 inch will be better for the walleyes, the 4 is great on yellow perch and crappie. Have used rapala blades for years and only had one that I could not keep sharp, a black soft handle model it's now used as a bait knife. Note I do have many other brands costing a lot more than the rapala blades.
Book Gnome : Sharp, Smooth, Supple!
I've been filleting fish for 40 years--ever since my little brother (who is better at everything than I am but never brags about it) declared that he was not cleaning one more of my fish! He was the one that taught me how to fillet a fish, and he used a Rapala fillet knife. I've occasionally tried other brands, but 40 years later I'm still using Rapala. And with good reason--I got more than 10 years out of my last knife (which I still use around the kitchen), and thought I'd upgrade a little with its replacement. The PTFE non-stick coating on the blade does indeed help this knife remove the fillet from the skin more smoothly. I didn't notice a major difference on the other cuts--just the super sharp and supple performance I've come to expect from a Rapala. Expect an update on Rapala's latest offerings in another 10 years!
On a side note, this product makes a really great sidekick for the Rapala fillet knife. While you can tell I'm a big Rapala fan, this one does a better job than the little Rapala sharpeners.

I used to tip boat deckhands for filleting my fish. When they switched to making it a mandatory fee, I bought this to learn it myself and will never look back. It pays for itself on the first day. Good buy!
Douglas Burnett : Not what you expect
Have had Rapalas in the past but this does not have near the quality of past ones. Blade is much too flexible and the finish on the blade not what I expected. Had a rough finish. Go to a store where you can view the knife before you buy. Very, very, unhappy with this purchase.

Pros and cons....So this knife is great for most all fish, but when I put it up against a 26 inch redfish, it held up pretty well, but a little too flimsy for such a tough fish like that. I like a little give ofcoarse, but for a redfish, I need something a little more sturdy. It was still great though and the 6 inch size I ordered cut through a 26 inch red just making it. Could use 9 inch for sure for the big fish. And I would reccomend ordering a 7 inch instead of 6. It is super sharp and awesome for a regular fillet knife for sure. I will still definately order another for my regular needs. Just throwing out the little details we sometimes need when shopping online.

Knife is really nice. I like the way it looks, the only issue is that when my wife used it for the first time a small piece of the handle chipped. I know it could have happened to any of them but it had to happen to the one I got for her. I would buy it again if the need arrises.
