A standard 9 volt battery does not fit . Is there a special type of 9 volt?

Answer: 9 volt battery futs fine, you may have it in upside down, contacts are down inside the handle.

Answer: I had to put a penny on the non terminal end of the battery before closing the battery door in order for the battery terminals to make contact.

is it accurate

Answer: It's very close within a 1/4lb. Like most though; a few hard drops and it will be less accurate . I keep mine in my boat bag.

Answer: Define accurate. No scale is 100% dead on. It is pretty accurate but if you are talking for tournaments then use the same type and brand that they use. There can be slight differences in ounces between scales based on brand, type, age and usage.

Answer: I believe since it has a scale inside there is a bit of play...find yourself a known weight and check the scale for accuracy. As long as it's accurate and doesn't affect operation...good fishing!!

Answer: It does not have a tape measure.

Answer: No tape measure. Weight only. I own a nesting sanctuary and enlist duck and turkey hunters to do the physical work that I cannot do. We use this to weigh turkey and geese. We have use a ruler or tape measurento measure spurs, beards, wing spreads. That said it requires to be held straight up and down for an accurate read.

Answer: As in - do I even emerge it in water? Well, not on purpose, but when weighing fish that are in our lives well, the scale has been splashed on, and it is still working. I have had mine for over 10 years, use it in fishing derbies, and it is pretty accurate with official scales. Bought this recent order entry for our son. He had one prior to this one, but it had manufacturer problems with it. But for your answer, I've never emerged might even in water,

Answer: I don't really know, the biggest fish I've caught and weighed was 17.75 lbs. But the main reason I bought it was to get the fish out of the water........

Have had this for three years now. Worked great the first year. Not good years two or three. Lip gripper does not close consistently. You have to have it perfectly placed and make sure it's locked before lifting the fish. I've lost some trophy fish as a result. Scale seems to work fine although I haven't tested its accuracy. Really don't recommend.

When I first purchased mine it worked but was inconsistent, the same fish would weigh different almost every time. Brought hot back out the following season and wouldn’t turn on, got new batteries and nada, awful customer service. Very expensive - other much more reliable mechanical and digital out there - this scale is basically expensive garbage

Bought this scale (made in China) to go to the gulf redfish fishing. Worked when I got it. After two uses it stopped working replaced battery still would not work. Contacted Berkley paid to ship it to them 5 weeks later a new one shows up. It works but they want $9.95 shipping. now i have a scale that works but cost another $20 due to shipping. Bad Idea Berkley. I am sick of Chinese junk, should have stayed with my Zebco spring scale I have had for 40 years.

I love this product. So much fun especially for the really toothy Lingcod. We used it a lot and tried it against other weighing methods and found it to be very accurate. Off by less then 1/4 of a pound in a salmon tournament. Solid design and holds up well in the salt water. Good price and easy to use, feels solid.

If you're looking for accuracy down to the gram, buy something more expensive. But if you're just an old angler like myself, it works just fine, and it beats getting your fingers chewed up by big catfish.

I bought this because i'm starting to get back into fishing so i wanted fish grip with a scale. when i get it in the mail something was off opening and closing the grips, it felt like it was loose so when i opened the package it JUST CAME APART IN TWO! some screw, washer, and some random piece fell off of it. never even got to use it.

Not worth the cost as it gives different readings on same fish. We weighted fish from 2# to 6#' on several fish 3 and 4 times and never got the same weight on the same fish. The reading varied 2 or 3 oz. everytime. I would not reccomend for tourement fishing.

I would like to speak with somebody about this. I bought this on February 21, 2017. I used it 3x, and pulled it out to use this weekend June 2/3 at a bass fishing tournament, and it simply will not work. It's dead. I changed the batteries, but that wasn't the problem. I treated it well, put it in a separate case, etc.. I would like Berkley or Amazon to replace this item. When you do, I will change this review. When it worked I loved it. Please respond.

I used this for precisely one fishing trip. Somehow, I managed to misplace it as I was loading up my vehicle. Boy, I was pissed. What I can say about it is that it's fairly large and heavy owing to the additional scale readout built into the handle. I did not have the opportunity to validate the accuracy of the scale. And instead of purchasing the same unit as a replacement, I opted to buy a smaller, lighter, cheaper lip gripper and a separate Berkeley digital scale. I have rated it 4 stars because it performs as expected but was a bit too large and heavy for my purposes.

I tried to like this, but it's just no good. The gripper is unwieldy and unreliable, and the scale is quirky and unreliable. I stopped using it after a couple of months. It was a mistake.
