A standard 9 volt battery does not fit . Is there a special type of 9 volt?

Answer: 9 volt battery futs fine, you may have it in upside down, contacts are down inside the handle.

Answer: I had to put a penny on the non terminal end of the battery before closing the battery door in order for the battery terminals to make contact.

is it accurate

Answer: It's very close within a 1/4lb. Like most though; a few hard drops and it will be less accurate . I keep mine in my boat bag.

Answer: Define accurate. No scale is 100% dead on. It is pretty accurate but if you are talking for tournaments then use the same type and brand that they use. There can be slight differences in ounces between scales based on brand, type, age and usage.

Answer: No tape measure. Weight only. I own a nesting sanctuary and enlist duck and turkey hunters to do the physical work that I cannot do. We use this to weigh turkey and geese. We have use a ruler or tape measurento measure spurs, beards, wing spreads. That said it requires to be held straight up and down for an accurate read.

Answer: As in - do I even emerge it in water? Well, not on purpose, but when weighing fish that are in our lives well, the scale has been splashed on, and it is still working. I have had mine for over 10 years, use it in fishing derbies, and it is pretty accurate with official scales. Bought this recent order entry for our son. He had one prior to this one, but it had manufacturer problems with it. But for your answer, I've never emerged might even in water,

I watched Major League Fishing and noticed this was the scale they were using, in Bass tournaments it helps to quickly weigh each fish before putting them in the live well so that later you can take the smallest one out to replace with a bigger bass. The problem is doing it quickly, which these do. However, it would be nice if they were at least close to being accurate, but testing them against 3 other scales I have......they are not even close.
On a 3# weight, they weighed it at 3 pounds 11 ounces, on a 5 # weight it showed over 6 #'s. Too expensive to be this far off, even though they are easy to use, I would not recommend them due to their inaccuracy.

If you're looking for accuracy down to the gram, buy something more expensive. But if you're just an old angler like myself, it works just fine, and it beats getting your fingers chewed up by big catfish.

I bought the Berkeley in response to breaking the plastic grip on 2 50lb Rapala scales. The hook holds well. Turn it on before attaching fish and let it zero out. My scale shows accurate within an ounce or two. I would advise to keep tightly closed and protect from severe rainy weather but it's worked for 2 years so far.

Gets a foggy haze inside when it's muggy or cold. Not waterproof at all, but does well if kept dry in storage. Don't leave it on the boat.

Doesn't weigh consistently. weighed a 6oz lead and read anywhere between 8 and 14oz. my fishing bag got wet when i was fishing and water managed to get behing the glass on the screen. expected much better given the cost
