Questions about Okuma Convector Star Drag Levelwind Trolling Reel
Q:
how well does it cast?
Q:
What are the demontions of this reel ?
Answer: Fabulous tough 'no non-sense' reel. About the size of a Penn Senator 4.0....but better reel.
Q:
Is this reel good for saltwater trolling planers
Answer: The larger size models will be good for saltwater trolling with planers unless you plan on targeting offshore big game fish.
Answer: Yes
Q:
does it come with a rod clamp?
Answer: This reel comes with a clamp assembly in the box.
Answer: Mine did. Amazing reel.
Q:
is it left hand ?
Answer: This reel is a right hand model. The Convector line counter reels are available in a left hand model but the standard levelwind reels only come in right hand retrieve.
Answer: You crank with you’re right hand.
Q:
is this a saltwater reel?
Answer: Yes...I have used it for open ocean, bay and near shore river salmon fishing. This is an excellent reel for the money and I have had no problems. I just wash it down completely after every fishing trip.
Answer: It can be used in salt or fresh water with the stainless steel components it is safe for salt water
Q:
What is the maximum drag for the Convector 45?
Answer: The CV-45 has a max drag of 20lbs
Answer: I would doubt that full drag is much over 15 lbs. I have the drags replaced as soon as I buy one with "drag Master" drags. The reel preforms much better after the change.
Q:
What size fish can i catch with this reel? Im looking for a reel to catch large game fish, like sharks and tuna, possibly marlin.
Answer: It's a medium sized real not really going to handle any large game Fish I have 8 of them and use it for catching large stripers in the Chesapeake nothing over 45 50 pounds. But a great real very happy with it
Answer: I find this reel to be great for trolling the bay. I do believe it would be strong enough to catch some of the smaller blue-water species as you suggest, however I don't believe the reel can carry enough line for larger fish.
Answer: That Okuma reel is real good for fish up to 50lbs. It will probably work but I offshore fish alot and we have the big Penn salt water reels. I use the CV-55L Okuma to salmon the Great Lakes.. You can try it??
Answer: I caught a bunch of 80 pound halibut with it.
Q:
What are the dimensions of this item...?
Answer: Go to the Okuma website, okumafishing.com. You should be able to get all the facts and figures for this reel.
Q:
I'm just checking to make sure. Is this a 4:1 gear ratio?
Answer: The CV-55l features a 4.0:1 gear ratio
Q:
Would anyone recommend this reel for saltwater bottom fishing. Black bass , snapper etc
Answer: I use the Convector 55 for trolling in the Chesapeake Bay. I gave this reel 5 stars 3 years ago. I like it better than Penn reel and has held up very well.
Q:
how many yards of 50lbs braid can the reel hold ?
Answer: It should hold about 475-500 yds of 50lb braid.
Answer: I am not sure on the exact amount but it will hold a lot of brade.
Q:
Hi, I want to know if it's the CV-55L, as on the description or the CV-30L as on the product image?
Answer: It's the CV55L. You are correct the image is the CV30L. They both look the same except the CV55L is larger in size and has harness lugs (eyelets to attach fighting harness) on the frame which the CV30L doesn't have (as shown in the image).
Answer: It depends on what the title is. Sometimes we have no control over the picture feed on Amazon. You can always contact us to be sure you get what you want.
Q:
Does it have bait clicker ?
Answer: Yup, nice loud clicker
Answer: Yes it does
Answer: Yes
Q:
Can this be a casting reel? If yes, how far?
Answer: The Convector reel is not made for casting. If you are looking for a reel that has a counter for trolling but can still cast well I would suggest the Okuma Cold water low profile reel. This is my favorite all around reel on the market!
Q:
Is this reel large enough for 400' 45# Copper with 500' 50# mono backing?
Answer: It is big enough for 400' of copper but you will have to use 30 or 40 llb power pro to fit it.
Answer: THE SPECS SAY IT WILL HOLD 1080 FT OF 30LB MONO LINE. That's all we have for you on that.
Answer: No. You need to use power pro braid
Answer: buy something else!!!!
Q:
is this real Left Handed or Right Handed
Answer: Right hand but you can order a left hand if you want... See Okuma web sight for correct order number for left hand.
Answer: Right handed, this is a beast of a levelwind
Answer: Right handed
Q:
Is it for boat trolling with lures?
Answer: Yes, you can use the Convector star drag reels for trolling lures , divers and planer boards.
Answer: Yes, it's a very good reel for the price.
Answer: yes it is.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does it have a line counter?
Answer: The model shown does not have a line counter. The model with the line counter is the CV-30D
Answer: No Sir
Q:
Is it for boat trolling with lures? CV55L
Answer: Works great trolling an Umbrella rig with 6 inch shad and a 9 inch shad chaser. I've caught stripers in the Chesapeake Bay trolling that setup or a Mann's Stretch 25 with no issues.
Answer: Yes, we are using for salmon trolling.
Q:
how big is this reel?
Answer: This a large reel with a large capacity. I put 375' of copper line on it with backing.
Answer: The Convector comes in 4 different sizes the smallest would be the CV15D and then the CV20D, CV30D, CV45D and the largest CV55D
Answer: I use mine trolling for salmon with copper line. does the job well. larger than you might want to jig with, or use on a downrigger rod
Q:
is this configured for left or right hand ?
Answer: the reel shown is a convector levelwind reel which is only available in a right hand model. The Convector line counter reels do come in both left and right hand models.
Answer: reel pictured is a right hand reel. I believe the can be purchased in left also but can not say for sure.
Q:
Is this reel good for saltwater trolling Planners
Answer: It is very popular for salmon and trout trolling but I have not spoke to anyone who has used it in saltwater. My dad owns several Okuma spinning reels that he has used in saltwater several times per year and has not had any issues if rinsed thoroughly.
Answer: More than adaquite, I have several but have the drags upgraded when I get them. They will need a spray off after saltwater use, but that is a good idea with any reel.
Answer: In my opinion, yes. I like them better than Penn. I use them on my boat trolling for stripe bass (rockfish) in the Chesapeake Bay.
Product reviews of Okuma Convector Star Drag Levelwind Trolling Reel
Troy Watts : Durability problems.
I’ve had 2 - 45L reels for about 10 years and they’ve been great. Over the last 2 years, I’ve added 4 more to round out my Halibut gear and switched 3 of my salmon reels to 20L’s. Beware. Of the 7 new reels, the level wind gear has already stripped on 3, and the main drive gear on one of the brand new 45s broke a tooth picking up after the first trip last weekend. I like the reels but the durability just isn’t where it should be with a quality reel. I’m currently switching back to Penn and Shimano.

Excellent for salmon fishing! Great lead core and copper rod. Can fit 300' backing and 350 copper on. Or backing with a full color of lead core. I love these reels.

Excelente carrete de muy bue calidad espero estrenar con buenas capturas
R. Maynard : poor drag system
The reel its self is a great buy, But not until the drag was replaced with "Tuna's reel troubles" drag. Just a shame that a fine reel has to go to the shop before it is ready for use
