i fish a jig mainly and gulp 7 inch worms. But what is producing for you guys.
3 inch senko type bait.. dropshotted. Wacky and Nosehooked.
1oz spinnerbait slow rolled, 3/8 oz hair jig with a swimming chunk trailer
Gulp Nightcrawler
Jackall Cross Tail Shad
Gulp Goby (Erie/Lake O only)
6" or 8" zoom lizard usually watermelon
#1. Roboworm, 4" Aron's Magic, nose hooked on a drop shot.
#2. Senko, 3" pumpkin w/green flake, wacky rigged on a drop shot.
#3. Senko, 5" watermelon w/black flake, wacky rigged on a straight line.
I like drop shotting with Gulp in Watermelon Pearl or Emerald shiner.
Rig a Chigger Craw in a Pumpkin or Motor Oil type colour just as though you were flipping it but drag it (don't jig it, just inch it along the bottom) as painfully slow as possible along the bottom. Any weight you feel.....set the hook and get'er done!!!
Hope this helps.

Had some luck recently with a 4" Yum craw papi on a 1/8 oz jighead with a 1/0 ewg hook, very lightly texposed.
Although I would have gone with a 3/16oz if i'd had one with me.
worked with the chigger craws too, i just liked the smaller profile/faster action of the craw papi.
Old School
1 Silver buddy
2 1/8 oz -1/4 oz Black with some brown Hairjig preferably bear hair with a black Uncle Josh u2 with 6 lb test
3 silver Buddy I know i listed it twice I luvem :
Smallie Sweet Beaver on 1/4 oz Jighead
Silver Buddy
jig grub
hair or rubber jig & pig
big crankbait in bright color
football jig with yamamotto flappin hog as trailer
Any skirted double tail grub on a jighead of at least 3/8 of an ounce. It's the ticket for smallies on deep rock reefs.
I've been catching them on tubes, EVO jigs and Here's one for you guys to try in your neck of the woods, I rig on a Rapala X-Rap then about 12-15 inches in from the lure put a splitshot on it so it will go down to the bottom. The weight will ride the bottom while the X-Rap is a foot or so off the bottom. Smallies can't stand it and they gotta bite.

simplejoe, thanks for the post. It sounds like a drop shot for jerk baits. I like the idea and will have to give it a try!

No Problem, That little trick came from me being bored on the boat without any success from anything I was throwing, so I decided to try that and was catching smallies a short time after.
Silver buddy, buddy!!!!!
1/8-1/4 brown hair jig with 101 brown pork trailer.
1/4-3/8 oz creepy crawler.
This will sound nuts....Sammy. Seriously, I get more smallmouth bites working topwater over very deep water (45-70'). Action can be incredible.
But if we're talking deep running lures, tubes, drop shot finesse plastics, jig, shorty spoons all produce well too.
I like to use a 3/16 bullet weight a 6inch chomper's finesse worm or any scented worm of choice and a size 1 tru-turn worm hook, and just drag it on bottom with 6lb p-line flouroline. junebugmn
deep swimming bomber or Berkley Powerbait purple ribbed worm
I had some luck with using a c-rig, with a Yum craw papi texas rigged on the end of it.
Deep crankbait as well. I think I was mainly using a Strike King 4 or 5 crank. I was using sexy shad, but I think for the smallies I will do better with more chartreuse, so I got some new ones.

Coincidently, I have tried that as well! I don't know what made me think it, but I did it with a smaller x-rap. Surprisingly, I dropped it down around 15' and pulled up 3 beauty Walleye on 3 casts!! Nuts, it works great.
Angling Adam,
What size of split-shot were you using and what was your presentation?

My memory is bit hazy as it was a while ago, but I had a smaller xrap, the size 8 I believe, in a realistic minnow color. Had a maximum of 1/4oz in splitshots on the line, but most likely it was less, like 3/16 or something.
So with that light weight I just casted it out, let the sinker take the lure down, and its doing its xrap thing as the weight is creating some speed for it. Got to the bottom and I just started reeling it at a medium pace, never snapped it or anything extra. I don't think the weight was dragging on the bottom, but it was just enough to keep the lure down around 12-15 feet.
