Is this ok for saltwater?

Answer: I think that depends on your targeted fish it is a pretty light weight reel. I use it for fresh water trout with on an ultralight rod and 8lbs test, I have a Daiwa Ballistic 2500 for saltwater. Having said that it is a quality reel, in line with what you expect from Daiwa I would feel comfortable using it in saltwater environment for bait fish or papio.

Answer: That’s a great question I imagine if you’re just going one or two times it should be OK as long as you rinse them off afterwards and re-lube them, but I would definitely recommend going with a saltwater reel because of the coatings used to prevent corrosion.

Answer: It isn’t mag sealed like some of the other Diawa reels available but is extremely smooth for the price point. A sealed reel of the same size and maker runs about twice as much. Mine will do both fresh and salt . If I were doing salt water only and lots of spray and salt water splashing on the reel I would go with a sealed version and spend the extra dollars up front and not have to replace when the salt has done its damage.

Answer: Absolutely no problem but personally I would use the 2000 series for 4 pound test .The 2500 is a little bit bigger but because of that your line won’t kink as quickly.This reel is silky smooth so you shouldn’t have any problems with 4 pound test.

Answer: Short answer is yes you can. I use the 2500d for a trolling rod so I like that bigger spool to hold more line. The 1000d is more suitable for the 4lb test but it will work on either one.

I purchased this reel to be a back up unit to my Daiwa BG2000. The Daiwa Regal LT3000D exceeded my expectation in every way and is just as enjoyable to use as the BG. They're both very smooth and feel solid but still different in some ways. The Regal LT is a little lighter but the drag system is more aggressive per click. The BG has a very good drag system that feels more linear. I don't think of the Regal as a back up unit anymore. I matched it up with its own rod, a Daiwa Presso 9' ultralight. I spooled the Regal with 4# Ande monofilament and love it.
