Questions about Dyna-Glo DGX780BDC-D 36" Vertical Charcoal Smoker
Q:
What cover fits this model?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Dyna-Glo DG784GSC Premium Vertical Smoker Cover fits good and leaves about 3 inches at the bottom for air to get in.
Answer: I called the manufacturer and they told me that they dont have a cover yet for the Dyna-Glo. You have to either get a generic cover or have a custom cover made.
Answer: I bought an after market one.
Q:
what are the dimensions of the cooling racks (lengthxwidth) or (width x depth)
Answer: Product Dimensions: 27 x 19.2 x 46.5 inches
Answer: THE ACTUAL SIZE OF these grates are 22.25" W x 13.46" D -GHP Group Customer Support. All the other answers refer to the 'smaller' DG Smokers.
Answer: Sam they are 14" wide x 13" deep. I can hang 20 sticks of sausage comfortably. Its a nice smoker, the double door is very handy you don't let heat escape when tending water and wood chips
Answer: 13in deep 14 1/4 wide
Answer: 27*19 inches
Q:
Can this smoker connect to a natural gas source?
Answer: Designed for use with LP gas. Manual says nothing about Natural gas conversion. Without consulting the manufacturer I would have to say no.
Answer: Generally, you can convert natural to LP with a change of orifices but rarely LP to natural.
Q:
Does the standard size fit a full brisket, or would i need to get different cuts?
Answer: I have not done a brisket but the inside cooking space on one rack would be about 12" deep and 14 " wide. If you had a 20" brisket you would have to cut it in half.
Answer: I've smoked a decent size brisket with no problem. I'm sure you could find one that was too big, but should handle most of them.
Answer: Never used a full brisket in there but you may have to get cuts. Hard to say without actually trying. I bought it for my father so he is the one using it.
Answer: Different cuts ; / cut and haft
Answer: I have smoked a 13 lb Turkey if that helps
Q:
What are the inside dimensions of the 3 different sizes of this smoker?
Q:
What is the size of the racks? LxW
Q:
i like to make bacon it is cold smoked at 85-100 degrees will this smoker go that low?
Answer: Hello Bill, this smoker can go as low as 100 degrees, we suggest a charcoal smoker that you can adjust the temperatures of by adding or taking away coals. -GHP Group Customer Support
Answer: Hello, i wish i could answer from personal experience, but I've never really smoked anything at that liw of temp... however, i can say that my thermo guage goes as low as 100 degrees and the burners are adjustable in flame hight. I would make sure the flame hight is not so low as to blow out if windy, but i can see where smoking at 100 could be feasible, sorry I could not have been more help sincerely, Don
Answer: No the propane smoker won't go that low I think you should try and find a electric smoker!
Answer: No this smoker won't go that low even with all vents opened
Answer: No you won't be able to smoke and keep the temp that low in this smoker.
Answer: Yes...you'll have to use the vents along with the burner adjustment.
Q:
where can I get replacement racks?
Answer: Not sure. Maybe contact the Dyna-Glo. You would think that they would have replacement racks. Maybe a Bar-B-Que store.
Answer: Sorry FOUND them. You can get them at Home Depot
Answer: I have looked on several sites and cannot find any, only grates for the grills.
Answer: I would check the Dyna-Glo website
Q:
Does anyone else have problems keeping the temp at 200? It keep going up to 400 and I have the vents closed
Answer: I have that problem. It's hard to keep a constant temp. U have to check it almost every 15 minutes to adjust the temp. Keep your water filled and fill the wood chip holder full. Regularly. Also try cooking at 250°. Yes it will get done quicker but it's easier to sustain. Keep your vents open on one side. See if that helps if not try them both open. Gradually u will c a difference and it will help u figure out how much that burner needs turned up or down.
Answer: Closing the vents will just raise the temp. This is a gas unit, the vents allow heat to escape.
Answer: Hello Kev,
Answer: I would open up the vents to adjust the temp, or slightly open the door, people do this at the regular grill.....
Answer: I'm having the opposite problem and going through a TON of charcoal. What am I doing wrong?
Answer: I have had mine overheat as well, but I have found through trial and error that the best way to regulate the temp. is to adjust the amount of charcoal you use. When mine overheated, I would just crack the bottom door a bit to let out the heat.
Q:
Are you able to replace the regulator with a Bayou Classic M5HPR-1 with brass control valve to better control the temp? Are other parts needed?
Answer: Hey Joseph,
Q:
what is the chip box made of

Answer: It is made of fairly heavy steel and either painted with a heat hesistant paint or porcelinized. It is very durable.
Answer: It's made from metal that paint in black

Q:
I am looking for a cover for this smoker, any recommendations? The ones that I have seen do not look tall enough?
Answer: This is the cover I ordered for mine. I like the durability and quality of this product. It fits perfectly, but a small part of the bottom is exposed, which I found not to be a problem. The top of the burner panel and knob are exposed.
Answer: Other than ordering a custom one - I think there is a site listed on Dynaglow's website with dimensions - I just use a tarp.
Q:

Q:
Does have a rib rack
Answer: Hello Cal, this smoker does not have designated rib racks but it does have 4 adjustable cooking grates. We apologize for any inconvenience. -GHP Group Customer Support
Answer: You don't need a special rack for ribs. Just lay them on the racks. That is what I do and they come our great.
Answer: If you mean a hanging one, no.
Answer: No it does not
Answer: No
Q:
How big is the inside of the fire box?
Answer: It’s pretty small
Q:
Not getting hot enough? We’re doing everything right and we can’t get past 120 degrees!? Any suggestions? Should we seal it?
Answer: Make sure you are getting a good "bloom" from the burner. Sometimes the burner will light, but not fully bloom and give a consistent temperature. It may seem obvious but perhaps you don't have enough gas in the propane or the valve is not fully opened. I let pressure build up in the line before I open the gas valve on the smoker. This cures the small flame issue. Hope this helps.
Answer: Diconect gas, and make sure switch on grill is off.
Answer: You probably need to check the thermometer in the unit
Q:
I cant get the burner to ignite!! Any help?!?
Answer: There are no details. Does the ignitor work. If it does. Position the tip close to the burner so that the gas will ignite.
Answer: It sounds like a faulty Electro-pulse ignition. Ask them for a replacement. In the meantime you can use a long handle lighter. I never had a problem with mine but the fix is easy. Good luck.
Answer: Depending on where you're at, it might be too cold for the propane to light. Propane doesn't like to burn in colder temperatures. That's been my experience.
Answer: are you sure you have gas? Ours just lights when we press the button.
Answer: The manual will show you how to put a battery in the switch check to see if it is in the proper direction
Q:
Looking for a new smoker, moving from a weber smokey mountain with bbq guru temp control. question how is long term the temp control for a brisket?
Answer: The time it takes to cook brisket is dependent on several factors, including your desired tenderness and average smoker temp time. For an estimate of cook times by food type, check out our users manual. - GHP Group Customer Support
Answer: Mine holds the temp perfectly. I open the bottom door to add liquids and wood and the temp pretty much holds.
Answer: Not sure, sorry. Gato

Answer: Yes it does
Answer: yes
Q:
How long does one propane tank last? Looking for long smokes 10 to 20 hours.
Answer: This smoker has a 20,000-BTU cast iron burner, so it uses approximately 1 gallon of propane every 4.6 hours, therefore, a 5lb tank will last roughly 22.875 hours. -GHP Group Customer Service
Answer: When I researched propane smokers I read a tank should last 20-25 hours. That has been my experience. I keep 2-3 thanks full. I also have learned to finish the smoking process in a roaster in the oven @200 degrees. This saves hours of propane time when the smoker isn't really smoking any longer.
Answer: Has no bearing on the smoker but the size of the propane tank. If your smoking around 200, the longest I've run it is about 5 hours and there is plenty left so I'd imagine 10 hours wouldn't be a problem for a standard size grill tank. You can buy bigger propane tanks also.
Answer: The 10 hr wont be a problem, might be pushing it with 20 hr smoke though.
Q:
how can i get replacement door closures for the extra large size. Broke after 3 uses. Thank You
Answer: Look in the booklet you got. Somewhere there is an 800 number you can call. When you dial the number it will ring and then you get voice mail. Select the number you want and talk to the person. Have your model number ready because they will need it. You may have to email them photos of the broken part. I had to when one of the racks I got was broken upon arrival. It took about 10 days for replacements. If you don't have the manual, you can download one. Just google dyna-glo and the model number.
Q:
What is the temperature range of this smoker?
Answer: My on the front says 100 to 600 degrees. However it was broken in pieces out of the box. Since it was delivered at 3 the day before Thanksgiving that is totally another story I used a hanging oven gauge. The company sent another one but wasn't the one for this unit and the oven gauge works more accurate for temp control. I will say this is my second smoker and this unit is much easier to control the unit, love the lighter and hope after it gets broken in that the results will be great.
Answer: I've been able to achieve 150 to around 275 degrees.
Answer: At low setting I got 200 or so, at high i got up to 350
Answer: 200 to 275 consistent 225
Answer: 0 to 250
Q:
Why can't this be delivered to my residents?
Answer: depending on where you order from, it can be.
Q:
Are jerky grates available as accessory?
Answer: I have never looked for them I hang my jerky and sausage on rods that I made, you should be able to find something that will work out!
Answer: Hello S. E. Hamilton, we do not offer any additional accessories for this smoker. We apologize for any inconvenience. We hope that previous answers will help you! -GHP Group Customer Support
Answer: Not that I'm aware of, I use metal skewer/shish-kabob sticks to hang mine thru the grates. Works great!
Q:
Does it blow out in the wind
Answer: I have used this smoker for over 5 years now. I keep the vents on the bottom of the smoker closed. So far this has not occurred. I do keep an eye on the smoker at all time watching the temperature gauge. Hope this helps, Gato.
Answer: No it cool down some they all do that they all do that.
Answer: No it does not.
Q:
I there a rotisserie kit that will work in these smokers?
Answer: No you won't need one nor anywhere that you could mount one.
Q:
Does this smoker come with a cover?
Answer: No it does not come with a cover
Answer: No, and I suggest getting it and making careful measurements BEFORE ordering a cover.
Answer: No cover came with mine
Answer: no
Answer: No
Answer: no
Q:
Can I hang a slab of ribs with this smoker?
Answer: I wouldn't cuz one end would be charged badly. I'm still dialing in this smoker but it does preform well. Tends to run hot tho. Having a ruff time keeping it @ 2-250-3 most times it runs a 400 so I'd say don't hang ribs. Cut em in half and use the grates
Answer: This smoker does not include hooks, but the user may be able to hang the slabs from the top grate by using their own rib hooks. - GHP Group Customer Support
Answer: I'm sure you can if you removed all the racks. it comes with a rib rack that holds 4 or 5 full racks. I have done 4 lamb racks laying bone side down that turned out awesome
Answer: It comes with hooks for sausage. I’m sure you could find a way have not done it yet though. I’ll give it a try
Q:
All of the images show the unit as being black, but in the product description/comparison area, it says that it is white! What color is it??
Answer: the unit is flat black!!!!
Answer: It's all black. We have this smoker and it looks exactly as the pictures show.
Answer: It is black. It is a great little smoker.
Answer: its black
Answer: color is black
Answer: it is black.
Answer: black
Answer: dimentions
Q:
Can this be converted to natural gas?
Answer: it does not come with a conversion kit but it could possibly be done. I don't think it would be cost effective.
Answer: I believe there are NG tips pkgd with the unit
Q:
What do you use for a water pan?
Answer: An ordinary pie pan works well. Be sure to empty & rinse it when done smoking, to avoid having it stink.
Answer: A cheap aluminum roasting pan filled with water. It also catches a lot of the grease.
Answer: If you need one use a dollar tree foil pan.
Answer: Aluminum foil drip pan from Walmart.
Answer: any square bowl I cut a square Gallen can off. still leaves room for wood chips.
Q:
How big a turkey can you get in this smoker?
Answer: This smoker can accommodate a 15 lb turkey, it may not have enough room to accommodate larger turkeys. - GHP Group Customer Support
Q:
does the water bowl catch all the grease, some models have a separate grease bowl, will any leak on patio floor
Answer: I have not had a problem with grease reaching floor. It does not have a separate grease bowl. Having said that, if you r a clean freak, you might want to consider putting a rubber mat in front of grill...smoking is a somewhat dirty business.
Answer: My experience so far has been that the water bowl catches most if not all of the grease. But just to be safe an absorbing pad may be a good idea if you are worried about the surface under your smoker
Answer: No it does not catch all of the grease. I use an aluminum pad on a lower shelf that I also use for wrapping.
Answer: This smoker has no water bowl so I added my own pan on the lower grate which does the job. Basically I went from 2 smaller bullet smokers to this one because ease of access to the smoking area levels and the charcoal area both having separate doors. Temp was easy to maintain and I really like it so far, just wish I had more time to use it! Buy it and Enjoy!
Answer: I haven't experienced any leakage at all. It would probably be a good idea to check the metal sides on the interior after 20 smoking cycles and see if there is any grease that may migrate down.
Answer: Yes it will leak. If you want to catch all of the grease you will need to put a larger pan on the bottom shelf.

Q:
Is that a water pan in the picture?
Answer: I just bought one of these for my son for Christmas. It is the charcoal model. He lives in a different city and just put it together. He said it does not have a water pan? Should it have a water pan or not?
Answer: Yes there is a water pan. If you smoke long and slow you will need to refill the pan a couple of times
Answer: Yes there is a porcelanized steel pan above the wood smoke box.
Answer: No! It does not come with the charcoal smoker. It is also not referenced or shown in the parts list in the manual.
Answer: Yes, holds about 2qts. You will love this smoker!
Answer: yes
Q:
El ahumador trabaja con gas natural ?
Answer: El fumador no trabaja con gas natural. Solo propano.
Answer: Funciona con gas LP
Q:
In a long smoke how often do you have to fill the water
Answer: I use a large steam table pan - holds a lot more water and catches a lot more grease (keeping your smoker clean). You can easily go 8+ hours with that. And then when you're done, just throw it away - no muss, no fuss. Just put a rack in on the lowest setting and put the pan on that.
Answer: I guess it depends on what you mean for a long smoke. You do not have to refill up to four hours.
Answer: I guess in an 8 hour smoke, you would have to fill it maybe 3 times. I don't usually fill it all the way up. Too hard to work with.
Answer: Depends on the humidity you want in the box. I did a 12 hour brisket, filled it in the beginning and topped it off 4-5 hours later and there was still a little left at the end
Answer: Each time it us empty.
Answer: Every couple of hours or so.
Product reviews of Dyna-Glo DGX780BDC-D 36" Vertical Charcoal Smoker
BRIAN : Superior design and easy to assemble!
I just took delivery of this smoker and it was a breeze to assemble. Best of all, it is well designed, which is WAY more than I can say for the Masterbuilt smoker I'm replacing. There is NO danger of burning up the ignition wire on this model. The Masterbuilt unit had the electronic ignition wire next to the burner input and toasted the wire the first time I used it. Their customer support was good and sent me a new ignition wire, but that one got burned up the first time I used that one. I contacted them to inform them of this issue, but I was ignored. This Dyna-Glo lit the first time easy as can be. The Masterbuilt lasted for several years, but I had to light manually every time. Moreover, the supply line was too close to the flame which scared me. None of that is going on with the Dyna-Glo unit. I'm looking forward to many years of use with this unit. Bravo to Dyna-Glo for taking the time to engineer the unit properly!!
AmazonPowerBuyer : One of the best smokers you can buy for the price. Big thumbs up!!!
I have to tell you, I absolutely love this unit. The only thing I not just real happy with is the tray for the wood and the water. Design and quality could've have been a little better, but that is really nothing. You can control the heat on this perfect. I have already used this a ton since I have had it. I love all the racks. You can put so much in there. I was even able to smoke some incredible bacon wrapped jalapenos. Just incredible. Thank you so much for this item. I highly recommend it to anyone either new to smoking or a seasoned smoker. Just another little tidbit. You can bake in this thing 2. I tried the other day with the family. I did biscuits, and 3 racks of cookies and a cake. I of course removed the water and wood tray. I think this would be excellent for like cooking for thanksgiving and Christmas. You bake everything at once. Just have to be careful about keeping the door closed as little as possible so you dont lose all the heat.
steve : First smoker, best one to learn with.
This is my first smoker and I thought I was gonna be disappointed but for the price I figured I'd give it a try. After a few cooks it turned out to be a great investment.
-Assembly felt really cheap and vents are flimsy which had me in doubts but the cabinet is small enough to fit in the trunk of the car and bring around while being light enough to carry by myself. -I tried first round seasoning without aftermarket door gasket and it definitely needs it. I then added the door gasket and it holds temps very well. -The supplied temp gauge is way off, don't even bother relying on it. Definitely get a good electronic temp probe. -I cooked 10lbs pork shoulder and a 6 pound beef chuck while keeping 1 grate for water tray and the other for wood priming. The meat came out amazing!! Didn't bother with wood chips holder. All in all, I'd recommend this grill to anyone starting out or anyone with space limitations. With a little modification it's an awesome smoker for no big investment.
Jason Lesher : ... smoker a couple of days ago & I would like to say instructions were on point and I received ...
Just got this smoker a couple of days ago & I would like to say instructions were on point and I received all the parts unlike some previous reviews. Biggest problem I have right now is the tempatire gauge is beyond off by at least 20 degrees and this could seriously ruin a meal. My thermapro digital temperature which has worked great on my other 2 smokers never fails with reading the heat, so I know that’s not the problem. I’m reading 225 degrees on my thermapro and 200 on my smoker. This is a big issue and beyond not cool. 5 degrees I could ha sleep but I’m hitting a 20/25 degree difference which is. It acceptable.
M. Smith : Not worth the money!.... cheap metal parts and racks ..also it's only a 22inch box.. not 36inch...
It "looks" very nice, and seems to be wider than some. but Not worth the money in my opinion ( at $300).... And I got it when it was $50 off.... Disappointed the moment I took it out of the Box. ( in my opinion, it shouldn't have more than a $200 price tag ) ... (and should not advertised as a "36in wide smoker"...) Cheap everything, nothing fits or lines up properly ........thermostat does not read properly. ..Way hotter than it says, needed a digital Thermometer to not over cook.
Wood chip Box wont smoke at low tem
It's not 36" (only a 22 - 24 inch box) so if you trying to cook large pieces of meat, it still doesn't work. (32in wide handle to handle)
* This might be good for making beef jerky ..
Matthew S. : Easy to Cook/Regulate and Best Bang for your Buck!
Can I just say, WOW! When looking for a new smoker there was a lot of research to be done. This is obviously an investment and you want something that will last. Dyna Glo had outstanding ratings compared to many other companies out there, and at a competitive price point. Within the first week of assembly, I've already used it twice, with ease. I had initially contemplated getting the smaller model, but I am glad I went with the 36"!
Now to address Pros/Cons.
Pros: 1) Amazing cooking space capacity! 2) THE BEST SEAL EVER! I didn't have any smoke coming out other than the chimney on top! (Resulting in great flavor) 3) Easy to assemble 4) Regulating Temperature: once in the proper environment, away from heavy wind I could maintain 250-275 no problem for some amazing wings. 5) Minimal clean up with proper preparation. Putting a layer of aluminum foil on the bottom cooking tray as well as wrapping the water pan help minimize any cleaning after cooking.
Cons: 1) One leg is slightly shorter than the others, so I need to put a small wedge under the leg...not a big bother. 2) There is no insulation in the cooking chamber so heavy wind can impact your ability to regulate temperature. 3)
Tips and tricks: I used high heat silicone around the perimeter of the top lid where a very small gap was still present. The top is welded on the corners so this makes the chamber 100% closed. Make sure to use a mixture of woodchips and chunks to maintain your smoke. If you need to flip anything during a cook, BE PREPARED to take the whole tray out and shut the door while you flip your food! This will help with regulating temperature! You don't want to leave your door open for more than 30-60 seconds. I tried soaked and dry woodchips...didn't seem to notice a difference between the two. With two cooks down I can say that this regulates temperature very well, creates a VERY nice amount of smoke and flavor and made an outstanding bark on some chicken. Crispy wings are the best!
Amazon Customer : A good starter smoker.
I have never had a smoker before, I wanted something that can feed a family of 5 and not take up too much space, or cost a bundle. This smoker is easy to use and works just fine for a novice like me. in one weekend I smoked/slow cooked, 2lbs of home made sausage, 2.5lbs of chicken legs, 2 racks of ribs and a small top round of beef. Full belly's all around! Only advice, get some High temp door gasket to seal the door leaks. other than that no complaints
Steven Flannigan : Perfect smoker, beginner or expert!
Packaging and shipping were great, no complaints. My wife and I assembled with food grade silicone on all screws and joints, along with Kevlar insulate tape around door. The smoker is tight! When we open the door smoke billows, meat is tender and abundant with flavor. Highly recommend for the beginner or experienced smoker, for $150 you will not go wrong. Don’t blow $1K on a professional grade smoker, highly unnecessary (my first smoker was made out of a metal construction pipe). Try your hand here; if you don’t like smoking meats, no serious loss; if you love it, you will probably keep this and fine tune your talent especially since it will be seasoned nicely. Highly recommend!
Texan Gamer : Works, but needs constant attention
It was easy to assemble and seems to be well made. It has gaskets around the doors to keep the smoke from escaping. I was able to smoke some very tasty meats with this smoker, however it is very difficult to keep it at a steady temperature. You can't just set it and forget it. It requires constant baby-sitting if you want to keep the temp right. Wish I would have got an electric one.
jessica mcdade : Great for the money!
Smoker was fairly easy to assemble and for the money I believe it's the best one you can get. It is almost impossible to maintain low temperatures, but this seems to be a common complaint for this smoker and I was aware of that from reading other reviews (and they weren't fibbing). We purchased a remote meat thermometer after our first couple uses and it has been immensely helpful in temperature awareness (the smoker does have a temperature gauge on the front but I've not found it to be very accurate). This smoker serves it's purpose for us and I would recommend giving it a try!
steve : First smoker, best one to learn with.
Chuck : Manufacturer customer service deplorable
While I liked the unit for 11 months 1 burner had issues. I emailed the manufacturer and they agreed to send the repair part under warranty. So all good right... all they sent was a piece of sheet metal... frustrated after 4 weeks of waiting for the part I reached out to Amazon. I will say they were great, went above and beyond on policy, I always check Amazon before making purchases and buy a lot to say the least. While they did offer to accept a return of the unit I did take a $100 hit but considering Amazon was not at fault and going above and beyond I thinks all said it s fair. Not pleased with Dyna-Glo's customer service I won't be buying from them again but will shop Amazon for another smoker. Only too bad Dyna-Glo gets off scot free,
walker : Do NOT waste you money
I would be returning it but my 7 year old grandson really wanted to help put this together and I could not say no. It is easy to put together and we had fun putting together. Ok that was priceless. Now if you want to smoke meat in it, this is the most useless smoker I have come across. It is thin metal and will not hold heat for any period of time. You will be going thru gas faster than anyone should smoking and might as well be smoking on a grill. Don't waste your money!
Melody : Fool-proof instructions for a fool
I've never owned a BBQ in my life let alone a smoker combo. Firstly, the directions were actually easy to follow, in English and had no confusing translation issues most items have. I literally followed directions one step at a time. There were no missing parts, and everything fit together perfectly. This is the only time I've ever been able to say that about a product. Of note: only buy regular charcoal and lighter fluid! I was super prepared and ordered self lighting charcoal and had to return. Also, you have to cook a cycle for it to season. I was ready to Q but will need to wait until tomorrow. I loaded with charcoal and ran it as directed.
Crazy! I think I can actually do this! I'm glad I had to run a seasoning cycle as it let me practice with temps and smoke.
I am incapable of reading instructions, dyslexia. But it was that easy. Surprised husband when he came home, he always has to assemble things or read directions to me. Really excited to fire it up tomorrow and cook ribs. Hoping you take this review as honest because if you're looking for a Q like I was, reasonably priced and good quality you've found it. Also was amazing they included suggestions, temp charts, different wood chips and their results. Just super impressed.
Donn E. Green : Could be a lot better
Does what it's supposed to do and that's smoke large quantities of food for an affordable price. Build is cheap with loose joints, thin metal and it leaks liquids all over your deck. The vents on the sides do not completely close and the flap in the upper vent on my unit already broke off allowing the vent to be wide open and I've only used this smoker once. The photos in the product description show an iron smoke box when in fact it ships with a stamped thin metal box that is not going to last long at all. The same thin metal is used in the construction of the cage that holds the burner. It's flimsy at best and I truly don't expect it to last long in the elements and with normal use. The metal used for the screws is a cheap aluminum that easily strips during assembly. Other than that... I love it! LOL
With a few modifications prior to it's first use, this could be a much better smoker. Two things you would need to purchase are High Temperature calk, and High Temperature Felt Grilling gasket. Once assembled, take the time and seal the upper part of the cabinet where you see light coming through. Seal the edges of the deflector rim just above the water pan where they are loosely tack welded to the cabinet. Failure to do so will allow drippings from the food to drain down the walls of the smoker, down the legs and onto your deck. Take the felt gasket and line the edge of the two doors so that you get a better heat and smoke seal.
My intent was to dual purpose this chassis as a cold smoker. I stuck a 1100W heating element inside in place of the smoke box which is controlled by a temperature controller and mounted the Smoke Chief Cold Smoke Generator to the side. So all in all, it's a affordable smoke box that has some potential with a few modifications if you're up to it. If you're looking for a quality product out of the box... DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
I can't complain as I really didn't expect much for the price but as I say, it does what it's supposed to do.... just messier. :D
J. Martin : For the price I cant complain.
If your new to smoking Meats then start small with a beer can chicken and work your way up to bigger cuts of meat. We have struggled a bit with heat control and I think that is due to our meat thermometer having a cord and leaving a minut gap in the door causing our charcoal to burn out quicker. The assembly was very easy and I love the space and the multiple racks. Definitely invest in a coal chimney so you can practice some of the popular coal maintenance gudelined that I've read about all over the internet. For the most part I think the smoker is a very good value. If you are more serious about smoking Meats then I would suggest upgrading to something quite a bit more expensive. But if you're a novice and on a budget I do recommend.
Alan : Amazing Smoker!!
So far so great! This smoker works really well. I used to have an electric smoker and I had trouble keeping it hot during winter, that's why I got this one with 2 burners. On my second attempt, I decided to use wood chunks and to pre-light the chunks with a blowtorch. That did it, I had smoke right from the start and the temperature went to 225F very quickly, and to keep it there I almost have to only use 1 burner (I'm currently in TN and it's early fall) otherwise it gets too hot.
LKSchwartz : Very good product
I was a bit concerned with the reviews that spoke to poor packaging, misaligned locations for screws, etc. But I found the product was just fine when it arrived, packaging, no dents. The parts were well packed and everything was included as described in the instructions. It would be nice if there were a couple of the small parts packaged extra, my fat fingers dropped a couple of screws/nuts but that is on me. I'm retired and a stroke victim and put it together by myself. I do wish it had wheels to move it easier but again my fault for not thinking about it before I bought it. I've used it to smoke chicken and salmon both came out well. I like the product and glad I bought it.
Zak : Temperature never stays on the desired level. Disappointed
The good in this smoker is : big and can take lots of meet. Looks nice. Have two burners. The bad: temperature keep change and never stay on the desired temperature. The chimney looks crooked. I used it for brisket and I have to stay next to the smoker for 12 hour. I got great brisket but staying next to the smoker is not easy and if I knew that earlier I would've bought the charcoal one because it gives better smoking and also need continuous watch. I like how big and nice looking but I hate the temperature changing constantly
Cheryl M : Best smoker I have ever had!
I just recently purchased the Dyna-glo smoker. First of all, it is the best smoker I have ever owned, and I have owned three. The one thing that is amazing is the temperature control as well as the construction of the burners. On my old smokers the burners would go out on windy days, not with this model. The other thing that was beyond belief was the customer service and support I received from Dyna-Glo. The original ignitor was defective, and the company replaced it right away. The ignitor being defective did not hamper the use of the smoker, as I was able to light it with a lighter. AMAZING PRODUCT!!!! I just can't say enough about this. Oh and one more thing, the warranty is one of the best that I have found. WAY TO GO AMAZON AND DYNA-GLO!!!
JW : Good all around smoker and fairly affordable for the size and performance.
So far, so good. Drip tray should be larger, as the drippings get all over the bottom past the tray on the sides and creates quite a clean up chore. I use a disposable drip tray now that fits the whole bottom so as to avoid the clean up mess. Also, burners do not have as fine of control as they need as the smoker can spike up in temperature fairly quickly with just a nudge on a dial. Drip pan tray and Smoker tray could use better rails as it can be easy to dump them if you don't pay attention when pulling them out to add water and/or wood.
GFFJ : Value priced
This unit isn't a 5 star but for sure deservers a 4-1/2. The unit arrived 5 days ahead of schedule, which was great. Considering the bulky size and weight, there was minimal damage during transit (minor dent in the lower door which does not affect the door performance and a slight bend in the gas control valve panel which could be straightened out before assembly). The instructions state assembly should take 25 min. Realistically, the time to unwrap, sort out and identify the parts is close to 25 min. and assembly is closer to 45 min. The pros and cons; Pro; All parts were included. Packaging protection of the unit and all parts was excellent. Cooking grates are well made and very sturdy. The gasket / door seals are a great performance item that isn't found in other brands. The door closures hold the door tightly, making an excellent seal. The size is exactly what I needed to smoke 50 lbs. of venison at one time, vs smoking in 2 batches with my current smoker. Con; Metal wood chip pan with a poorly fitting lid (really should be cast iron). The water tray is too narrow to prevent drippings from the upper racks from falling onto the bottom of the smoker, where burner assembly is, even though there are drain holes in that panel to collect drippings into drip pans. The smoke stack adjustment only allows the damper to be adjusted to roughly 50% closed. All-in-all, the smoker is value priced and should last for several years.
Luann Layman : I DO NOT recommended this smoker
We have smoked for years. We upgraded to a larger model, We used this model three times prior without incident since we purchased this March 2017. On June 9, 2017, while smoking 4 pork shoulders for 8 hours on the ideal temperature of 200-225 degrees, the smoker caught fire, The meat was charred, the right side of the smoker melted, and the racks bowed in middle. We were able to safely put out the fire before causing any additional damage. This smoker is unsafe. I DO NOT recommended this smoker!
bkpdx : Not much smoke at low temp.
This smoker is really tough to smoke at low temperatures, it is great at cooking with some smoke. If you are looking to get a smoke flavor from low temp smoking this isn't the one to use. With the flame on its lowest the smoke isn't intense enough, if the flame gets turned up for adequate smoke it cooks too fast even with all of the dampers open.
Consumer : This works great!
This is a great little propane smoker. Add a nice seal to the doors and get a proper regulator. This will work just as fine as ones costing much more. I have used it quite a bit, every time gets a little better and easier. For under $200 it’s hard to beat. I’ve done ribs chicken and beef. All turned out pretty awesome. Used oil and rubs. Sauce comes later if needed. Everything comes out juicy and perfectly cooked. I also add veggies to every cook, and all have been awesome, corn potatoes zucchini garlic, whatever you have in the garden is great. I have a bbq and this smoker and I am glad that I have both for under $400, and it all works great. I highly recommend this smoker. Easy to use and properly constructed and engineered. Many conveniences compared to making one out of a couple 55 gallon drums. Go for it.

Mike : Most Perfect Temperature Control
This is a fantastic smoker, hands down. Have been using different smokers (propane) for 25 plus years. Last 2 smokers have been Masterbuilt. They were good. My last Masterbuilt smoker actually started on fire while smoking a brisket. Have never had this happen before. So, checked out reviews and went with the Dyna-Glo 36" Vertical. Yesterday, smoked two racks of ribs and whole chicken. Had neighbors and family over for late lunch. Huge hit with all. The chip pan and water pan are extra large. No adding chips or water necessary. Beside the temperature control knob, there are 3 dampers to control temp. 2 on each side and the chimney vent on top. I was able to maintain an even 225 degrees through 5 hours of smoking. So easy. My only recommendation for improving this smoker: The double doors leak smoke. Purchase a BBQ smoker self-stick gasket for both doors. It worked great and the smoke flavor was fantastic. Clean up is very easy. Make sure you line the water tray with aluminum foil. This makes for near effortlessly clean up. Overall, this is a great smoker for $200. Highly recommend.

Andrew : Worth the price
Big step up from my "el cheapo Brinkman". Used it to smoke a Thanksgiving turkey. On the advice of some other reviews, I bought fireplace tape and sealed around the doors. Good advice because it was really cold and windy that day. I didn't have trouble maintaining temperature. It's probably big enough to cook two 20 lb turkeys, 8 racks of pork ribs, four 7-lb briskets. For smoking a turkey, I set mine up for 3 racks: water pan on the bottom, turkey on the middle, chamber temperature probe on top. I'll probably make a permanent mount for the chamber temperature probe in the ceiling or top of a wall so I don't lose the top rack cooking surface (you don't want drippings on your chamber probe because then you are reading the drippings temperature instead of the true chamber temperature).
Good: Easy enough to assemble. Not 15 minutes like they say in the instructions, but wasn't difficult. Charcoal burns completely and drops into the ash tray. Nice holders for the charcoal and wood chips. 4 cooking grates that you can move up and down. They do slide in/out. There are stops to keep them from sliding completely out (but I didn't "test" them). Dampers are easy to operate.
Bad: Don't rely on the thermometer. I have a digital thermometer for monitoring chamber temperature and they were way off from each other. I just needed their thermometer to plug a hole in the door. You get 4 cooking grates. Unless you like getting drippings on your wood chip box and charcoal, you need to keep a drippings pan / water pan on the bottom rack. About 4 hours in I was re-loading charcoal and dumped the entire burning load on the ground. Had to shovel the hot coals back in (fortunately I was working over my "smoking pavers", so I didn't do any damage to lawn / patio / driveway / etc.) The charcoal box slides in/out, but there's nothing to keep it from flipping over. I figured out later you can slide the ash tray out to support the charcoal tray when you're filling it.

Jack Phr0st : The best purchase I’ve made....was the extended warranty for this thing
The best purchase I made with this order was the square trade extended warranty.
The propane regulator died on this smoker about 1.5 years ago. I was able to use it for chicken and poultry where I didn’t need low and slow cooking, but it’s finally given out completely.
Usually I would be disappointed when I only get 1.5 years on a $300+ product, but this one made me irate. I’ve replaced countless regulators on hundreds of propane grills and smokers, but for some reason Dyna-Glo decided to weld or otherwise permanently attach this most vulnerable (and easiest to replace) piece on the smoker in an intentional effort to make this smoker completely disposable.
Molly : Value
Fast delivery ???? easy set up took me and my son about 30 minutes, gonna test out and will up date after I do my first smoke And I did get the charcoal model
Update so as you can see the smoke is not staying in so I have to get some sealer but other wise work good
J. Paul : Delicious Ribs so easy to use
Novice smoker but followed directions for seasoning the smoker and then used it on Memorial day! Chicken and sausage turned out great but the ribs were OUTSTANDING!! Could not be more pleased with our selection! Will be using this a lot this summer. Smoker held its temperature very nicely and the smoke was very easy to regulate. I love this thing!
Stumpmonkey : Excellent smoker. Great results
We have never owned a smoker and knew very little about the smoking process. I was a little concern when we opened the box that was shipped to us, because it look like there were thousands of parts. My wife and I got the smoker assembled in a little over an hour with very little swearing. I would recommend a light hammer drill with a good number 2 Phillips driver because there are quite a few phillips head screws. We used hickory wood chips for our first attempt. Since this is a wide smoker, I attempted to smoke two large racks of baby back pork ribs, two whole chickens, and later added 6 hamburger patties. The smoker fired right up and with a little tinkering, I got the temperature to 225 degrees. The chickens finished prior to the ribs. After I pulled the chickens out, I added the 'bugers for about 90 minutes. The smoke penetration on the meat was excellent. The ribs were very good and tender. Honestly, the smoked chicken was shockingly good. The birds were incredibly juicy and tender. We ate one of the chickens the first night and the other went into a soup my wife made the next day. I may never eat baked chicken again...
heather grizzle : Easy .. and always yields great results
I love love love this smoker. I smoke soup bones for my Newfoundlands... and make my salted smoke meat for stews... in addition to smoked Jerk pork and a Korean BBQ brisket.
I have used wood chunks, chips, and pellets... my favorite is fruit wood pellets...
BTP : A Big Smoker With a LOT of Problems
This is my 3rd vertical propane smoker in about 12 years, so I’m not a novice. I live in a farm where we raise our own chickens, turkeys, ducks & hunt for venison & other wild game. I smoke about 75% of the meat that goes to table. I needed a large smoker, and this one fit that criteria. My last one was the same size, but it developed a crack in one of the aluminum burner tubes and literally melted the manifold and ruined a 35 lb turkey. So I spent a lot of time reading online reviews, especially from meat smoking websites & blogs. (You have to be careful relying on those, however, because I believe many are paid to give good reviews on sub-standard products.) It came down to this smoker vs. the Camp Chef Smoke Vault XL. I chose this one only because the Camp Chef has a single door, so adding wood means letting all the heat out.
The PRO’s: It’s HUGE, and comes with more racks than you could ever use unless you were making jerky. Assembly was very easy - everything lined up ok, and it took about 30 minutes by myself. It appears pretty well built, and I like the cast iron round burners vs. the stainless tubes in my previous smokers. The water tray is large, so most of the drippings will end up there. That’s a problem with many smokers that this one has solved. It keeps the bottom of the smoker from getting the drippings on it & the burners, causing clogged burners & rusting out the bottom.
The CON’s: Temperature Control is terrible. I like to smoke most meats at 225F +/- 5 degrees and it’s almost impossible to get it into that range. I’ve experimented with every configuration of one or both burners on, vents opened/closed etc. and it just won’t get and STAY at that temp. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a cold day, warm day, calm winds etc. Smoke: This one baffles me. I can’t get it to smoke consistently regardless of the temperature. I’ve used hickory, mesquite & apple - chunks & chips. I think it has something to do with the aforementioned temperature fluctuations. I’ll get the smoke rolling, leave & come back in 30 minutes & there’s no smoke. When I check the smoke tray, it’s only burning the wood in the back of the tray. Honestly I can’t diagnose “why” the smoke is so inconsistent - but it is. The smoke tray is pretty well made, but is difficult to remove to add wood when the water tray is in place. Both the water pan & smoke box have no room for error when sliding in & out. If your off just a little it’ll fall out. Once in, it’s secure though.
In retrospect, I wish I’d bought the Camp Chef version or one of the others I considered.
aeval : Decent for the price
I purchased as a gift for my husband and so far he has cooked 2 tri tips and 3 whole chickens. As I was assembling the smoker I really wanted to like this product it was well made all the holes lined up for the screws the doors closed it seems like the perfect gift but there is one glaring issue the ash collection pan slides into a groove which is nice and keeps the pan from falling out but the charcoal bin which sets on top of the ash pan freely does not which means every time you pull the charcoal pan out you can only go about a third of the way before it wants to tip over and when you're dealing with a hot flames the last thing you want is to be worrying about all your charcoal spilling out. A second rail that would keep the pan from tipping should of been a no brainier

MarkB07 : This needs to be your first smoker.
I bought this a few years ago and have been a regular user of this. I even bought one for a family member. Weighing all things equally this is a great product for the money. I have research other smokers over the years to see if there is a better replacement, but haven't found one yet for the money. Pros: --It's lightweight so you can move it from storage to cooking location. --The smoker box is much larger than other models, which is kind of the whole point. You can get large and small pieces in there for a longer smoke. --The water dish (temp regulator) is accessible and easy to maintain during the smoking process --Rack levels are easily moved to accommodate a variety of items. I never had problem fitting a bunch of food in there. --Very roomy inside. I can do 2 racks of ribs, 5 large chicken breasts and bacon, all in one smoke. I've never NOT had room. --Temp gauge is accurate easy read.
Cons: --I broke one of the handles pretty easily. I shut my garage door on it, which may not be recommended but it broke a little too easily for me. I got a replacement easily but that kinda sucked --The smoke leaks out of the door to easily. This is offset by the huge smoker box, which kicks off a lot of smoke, but i would like to see tighter seals on the doors. --The lid on the smoker box. I've seen a few people comment on this and they are right. It's annoying that it just sits on the box without any real purpose. To be honest I'm not sure if it's needed, but I imagine it makes the wood burn slower. It's not a deal breaker but it is annoying.
That's my feedback. This was my first smoker, and I have found it easy to use/learn with. The food turns out great, which is the whole point. I've seen much more expensive smokers that lack some of the benefits of this one (large smoker box) so like I said, for the money, this one is a clear winner.
ghvz1 : The best smoker I've had in over 30 years of smoking meats.
Many have said this is a good smoker for a beginner. I started smoking meats 30 years ago and have had charcoal, propane, and electric smokers. This one is going to be the best one yet. This appears to be well made and durable. There's plenty of room to smoke lots of meat. My first smoke was 3 full racks of baby backs plus a pot of BBQ beans and two skewers of veggies. The assembly instructions were easy to follow and all the pieces were there. It was easy to add water without splashing it or removing the pan. Adding wood was a little challenging and surprisingly, the wood chips smoldered even though I had soaked them for only 5 minutes. I'm not sure how wood chunks would do. The only issue I had was the thermostat seems a little finicky. I would adjust the thermostat a little, like a 1/4" turn (not a quarter turn but 1/4"), and the temperature would go from 220 to 300. A minor turn back and it'd drop to 200. Toward the end of my smoke, I found the sweet spot at 235 for the last hour.
This is a heavy smoker and comes in one box, so when it's delivered, you may need a helper getting it to where you want to assemble.
David Swift : Lots of room, Hard to keep hot when full
Pros: Easy to assemble Lots of room, I did a rack of ribs, a whole chicken, 4 lbs of salmon and a 4 lb chuck steak first time out to try it
Cons: Should include high temp sealant gaskets (thank you prior reviewers), I purchased and installed them When full, I couldn't get it up to the desired temperature even on a 90 degree day (though it was windy), it cooked at about 175-190 most of the time. Heated in 5 minutes during seasoning to 250 empty. I too can't find a reason for the wood box loose fitting annoying lid.
Tips: Close the Air vents by the burner for higher heat (in windy conditions?) DEFINITELY get and add a remote meat thermometer, it makes the cook simple and spot on (requires drilling a hole into it, having something (offset large washer for me), to cover the hole. I used a Tenergy Solis 6 probe bluetooth thermometer and got a nearly perfect cook on everything first time out. Peace of mind knowing what it was doing with a closed door was nice too. Add a good rub of your favorite seasoning to whatever meat your going to cook
Overall, I'm disappointed I didn't buy a smoker sooner and my parents failed me in that part of my education. The results tasted SO GOOD! I took a $3.99/lb cross rib roast (cheapest steak at my local store), and it turned out perfectly medium rare, amazing smokey flavor and tender. I've paid $50 a steak at restaurants for steaks that weren't nearly as good. The pork ribs rocked. Still have the chicken and salmon to try this week.
Douglas W Kenny : Works great for occasional user!
This product works as billed. Stainless steel grates are into their third season and still look brand new. No signs of rust, but I do keep it covered most of the time. The only issue is that there are times when it will not reach the desired temp (220-240 degrees) when it is cold outside. I do have some suggestions for you: 1. In photo 1 see a simple addition I made to add liquid to the liquid holding tray while cooking. This is so you do not have to open the door to add liquid while cooking. It is just copper pipe with a couple of fittings and two holders with gaskets to keep it in place. 2. Photo 2. The door does leak air, at least mine did. Go to the local fireplace store and purchase about $20 worth of hi-temp gasket material. It looks like felt with self-sticking tape on the back. 3.Photo 3. Do not rely on the built-in thermometer. The best thermometer I have seen is: Maverick ET-733 Long Range Wireless Dual Probe BBQ Smoker. Again, so you don't have to open the door during smoking I drilled two small holes to feed the thermometer wires through. These types of smokers lose their heat quickly each time you open the door, so try to avoid doing so. Also, keep a spare (full) propane tank nearby in case yours runs dry during the cooking process. You don't want to have to run to the store in the middle of cooking you meal.
Everyone raves about the meat and veggies I have cooked in the smoker, so clearly this product does its job.
Thomas S Flowers : slow and steady smoker
Not THE best smoker I've worked with. User will want to place a tin tray with water to stabilize the temp, after that, this sucker can cook for hours slow and steady. I have not smoke a brisket with it yet, not sure if it'll fit. But this sucker can cook a pork butt all the live long day. Lots of good smoke, even after plenty that "steams" out of the sides. You could use some of that fancy smoking tape, but I don't and I still get plenty of smoke.
All-in-all, the smoker is value priced and should last for several years.
aeval : Decent for the price
Reggie : lots of space!
This smoker has a lot of room for pretty much anything you want to smoke. Whole rack of ribs fit perfectly on the racks or you can use the rib rack that is included. My only challenge with this smoker is maintaining a low temperature to properly smoke for long hours. I constantly have to check my wood chips or wood chunks because of propane burner, it burns through the would quite rapidly. I highly suggest you have soaked wood chunks set aside to add as you cook. Also check your water reservoir as it dries up quickly also. This is a work in progress to produce real awesome smoked bbq, but the unit is woth for the price that it sells for.
