Questions about Zebco 33 Gold Spincast Fishing Reel, 3 Ball Bearings (2 + Clutch), Instant Anti-Reverse with a Smooth Dial-Adjustable Drag, Powerful All-Metal Gears with a Lightweight Graphite Frame
Q:
Will this real take 6lb mono line?
Answer: Yes it can take a larger lb test. To ensure a good fit try some nano filament line. 6 lb test nano filament might even be smaller in diameter than the 2 lb test line. Not only that, you will really able to cast a mile with it. The only bad part about nano filament is you must use a more secure knot than normally used on mono filament line.
Answer: the reel has 4# line not 2 and can easily take 6# test line. You won"t loose much in casting distance but you could compensate with a little additional weight. Its a great reel.
Answer: I've only used the supplied line, which is 2 lb. The spool looks like it will handle 6 lb., no problem.
Q:
What's the difference between the micro-gold triggerspin and the basic micro triggerspin other than $10.00?
Answer: I'm not really sure other than the handle. It has three bearings which may be more than the regular triggerspin. If you get one be sure to pull off the top cover and grease the gears. Mine had a blob of grease on the side of the gear but nothing where the gears engage and it started grinding after the first use.
Answer: Gold has far smoother gearing. Well worth the extra $10. I have both models.
Answer: No difference, smooth cast though
Answer: Not a whole lot of difference between the two. I do believe that the zebco 33 is made of better materials and the dezign is improved and seems to be of better quality.
Answer: The reel has the benefit of holding the pole with my right hand while reeling it with my left because the trigger is on the bottom of the pole. This gives me more control when casting.
Q:
Does it come pre spooled? What lb test?
Answer: It comes with a spool of 4 lb. cajun fire wire.(Red)
Answer: Yes it comes pre spooled with 4 lb Cajun Red Mono.
Answer: Yes. Pre-spooled. I cannot recall the pound test.
Answer: Yes, I believe Cajun 4lb. test.
Answer: yes, 4lb Cajun line.
Q:
What is the actual dimensions of the reel want it for cross bow pistol. with 30 ft of 30 lbs braided.
Answer: It's an ultra light reel. Made for 4 lb. test. 6 lb. Max.
Q:
What is the line ratio if i wanted to add a bigger line? Something like 8 lbs or 10 lbs?? Thanks
Answer: I don't know the ratio, but if you know the diameter of the old line and the diameter of the new line you could figure the approximate difference. I don't know how much line it hold with the original line ,but not too much, it's a pretty small spool.
Q:
How many ball bearings does it have?
Answer: This is a 3 bearing reel.
Q:
does this reel come with fishing line
Answer: Yes the reel comes with fishing line
Answer: Yes but you need to replace it as soon as convenient. You don’t know how long its been on there really. I have two of these for visiting children and a line with a lot of coil memory can frustrate a child quickly which is the last thing you want when you are introducing the sport to them.
Q:
Does it have bait clicker
Answer: This reel does not have a bait clicker. It has a constant anti-reverse.
Q:
What is the best line for these reel? The 4lb wire on this thing doesn’t work well for me ?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: The best line I have used besides the 4lb that comes with the reel is 6lb Stren mono.
Answer: If you are looking for stronger line try Spiderwire. It will be stronger without being much thicker. Most any line will work but larger diameter line will take up more space and therefore have less length.
Answer: Try a line with a larger diameter such as any decent 4 or 6 pound monofiliment. Cajun red works fo me.
Answer: None, these reels imo last about 2-10 times out then lock up.
Q:
Manuf: what is warranty days or years ???
Answer: No idea but Amazon has a return policy and my reel has been great.
Q:
how much 6 pound test will this real hold
Q:
Just looking for a straight answer. How many pounds can the drag be set for and safely not be stripped? I don't want any answer about fish size.
Q:
Can you put 10 pound spider line on the zebco 33 gold trigger micro spinning reel ?
Answer: you probably can but it wont hold much and over 6# and casting distance goes way down with this small reel
Answer: 6 lb Max and no braided line.
Q:
Any reason one couldn't put 10-15 pound braid in the spoool? Would it cast well? Would the trigger work the same? Thanks!
Answer: I believe 10 lb would not pass well through the schroud because the hole is quite small. This is an ultra lite real and should be used as such.
Q:
Will it take braided line ? What size ?
Answer: The only spincast reel I've heard of working with braid is the Omega. I wouldn't bother trying braid on anything that didn't have an oscillating spool to prevent line burying. The Micro with 4lb. I think 6lb would work really good too. I put 10lb on my previous old version of the Micro, and I think that was part of the reason the reel started to fail.
Answer: U may can use 4 or 6 lb. braid
Q:
Does it come with line
Answer: yes!
Q:
does this come with line?
Answer: No it doesn't... I put 12lb test on my... love it
Answer: Yes it does , 10 lb test
Answer: yes!
Q:
it resist salt water?
Answer: I would highly doubt that this reel would hold up for salt water use. I fish salt and fresh water in coastal GA, and in my experience with salt water if the reel is not stainless steel and oiled down after every use the salt water will cause deterioration.
Answer: Salt water will wreck it quickly. I only use these in freshwater.
Q:
What is rhe exact weight? The description states 5.3oz and 4oz.
Answer: It depends on, are you using 4 or 6lb. line.
Q:
What does clam pack mean?
Answer: Clam pack means it comes packaged in a plastic case.
Answer: I believe it just means that it is displayed in a 'blister' pack, nothing to do with the reel!
Answer: It means that it comes in one of those plastic boxes that is kind of molded around the reel, instead of coming in a box. It has no effect on the reel whatsoever.
Answer: I would assume it's talking about the package but mine came in a box. I wouldn't buy this though I've had several regular 33s that were fine this thing is expensive junk! It got wet once the second time I used it and never worked again.
Answer: Just the way it’s wrapped with clear plastic so you can view the item before unwrapping
Answer: I don’t see that anywhere in the description.
Q:
Could you put a 2 lb test monofilament line on this reel?
Answer: No reason you could not but 4 lbs is pretty light
Q:
How do you set the anti reverse on the Max Gold 33 reel?
Answer: There are 2 versions of this reel, 1 is anti reverse all the time and the other is supposed to set when you try to set the hook on a fish (auto) the auto . I have lost several fish due to the anti reverse not engaging so I replaced the auto with a full time anti reverse reel.
Answer: sorry but there isn't a button on my reel ,, it just works . I never had any trouble with my reel
Q:
is there a cover made for this reel ?
Answer: Couldn’t find a Zebco reel cover but plenty of reel covers on line, Cabelas, eBay, Amazon, etc
Q:
I'm looking at this as a first reel for my 11 year old grandson, and pairing it with a Shimano Solora spinning rod. Good fit for an 11 year old?
Answer: I purchased this for my 5 year old then subsequently for my 4 year old. It's really small. Good size for little hands. One is on a 4-1/2' rod and one on a 3-1/2'. 4 lb. test line is about as big as is practical for these combinations in my opinion. These reels replaced a small Shimano that the drag failed on during its first fishing trip.
Answer: I think so. Great perch and crappie reel, which is what I was looking for. Also great for trout.
Answer: This reel with the 60m2, 6' rod would be a great rig. Nothing worse than a crappy setup to start a kid fishing.
Answer: Yes good reel very small at 11 he could use a full size as well
Q:
Can you put the crank on either side
Answer: Yes. You're gonna love this thing. Best micro underpin I have ever used.
Answer: Yep, put it on either side.
Answer: yes.
Answer: Yes you can.
Q:
How many pounds of pressure can the drag on this reel maintain without damage? 2lbs?
Answer: Yes about two lbs. The reel itself comes spooled with 4 lbs line and is not designed for more pressure or a heavier test line. I have actually damaged a reel by going up to just 6 lbs line because I fish mainly rivers with many structures. In doing that you risk damage to the actuator and/or gears in reel.
Answer: The reel is sized and designed for panfish and smaller game fish like trout, usually 2 lbs or less .
Q:
how does this reel compare to the other micro 33 that is black and silver?
Answer: Don't really know haven't used it yet!
Q:
what is defference 3mtgold list $18.78 & $20.38?
Answer: don't know what a 3mtgold is, but for 20 bucks you won't find a better underspin reel than the 33 micro gold.
Q:
What do they mean by "calm pack" in the product/reel title?
Answer: It is a misspelling should be "clam pack"...Plastic see through display packaging instead of a box. Either way it is the same reel.
Q:
How big is the gap between the trigger and the rod blank?
Answer: Mine measures to be about 1 1/4”.
Answer: About an inch
Answer: one inch
Q:
Will this reel work with an ultralight style rod?
Answer: Yes, that is what the reel is made for. I have had great luck with my Zebco 33 reel.
Answer: Yes, but the closed face produces more drag than occurs with an open face reels. This one will not cast quite so far.
Answer: Yes,but if you buy one be sure to pull the top plate off and lubricate the gears. Mine had grease on the side of the gear but none where they actually made contact. Typical chinese (not) quality control.
Answer: Yes it will. I have it mounted on a Shakespeare ultra light micro. A good setup.
Answer: yes-perfect match!
Answer: Yes it will .
Answer: Yes and quite well!
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does it come with line?
Answer: Yes.it come with line.
Answer: yes, but don't buy one I bought 2 and one is already broken less than 100 cast
Answer: Yes, 4 lb test
Product reviews of Zebco 33 Gold Spincast Fishing Reel, 3 Ball Bearings (2 + Clutch), Instant Anti-Reverse with a Smooth Dial-Adjustable Drag, Powerful All-Metal Gears with a Lightweight Graphite Frame
Amazon Customer : Buy this FIRST the others will fail quickly
This is the better one. Its cheaper version is the "Zebco 11" and truly is a piece of junk that will foul on casting and not pick up line when you really need it to, and these problems will just get worse. Save some money, and just buy this one if you anticipate using it regularly or for a long time. This one is just built better.
P & D : Seems to be better than the standard version
I purchased this reel for my wife to replace her standard zebco micro triggerspin that started snagging constantly. She wanted to stick with an enclosed reel so I upgraded to the Gold model. We have had it for about two months and it is working great so far.
JB : Nice little reel
One of my favorite panfish reels, the only thing is before you use it in cold weather put lighter grease on it,the temp dropped and the pickup pins would not retrack,I sprayed it up w/wd40 and it worked like a charm.
FARM1962 : DISSAPOINTED !
Out of 30ish cast the line got behind on the spool pick up and tangled 4 times , not what I would expect from the gold version. Would not recomend for casting any kind of lures !
Tapa : Good product!
Easy to use, works well.
Marion C. : Good Buy
Great reel
Russ : Love it
Absolutely love this thing. Got it on a 9 ft slab daddy rod and its perfect for jigging. Had to tighten the reel handle screw twice now but have used it a least 6-7 crappie 5 hour trips.
D. Estes : If serious fisherman...keep looking
Not impressed with quality of reel. Casting is not smooth at all and the lock pins pop out mid cast occasionally.
Rob : It is hard to find a good micro closed reel to fit under the rod
It is hard to find a good micro closed reel to fit under the rod. This is OK but it does not cast very well. I am going to toss this in the junk drawer and buy another Pfluger.
Neil Brashear : Great choice for panfish.
I love the size and the quality seems fine.
dean d. : nice
casts far, reels smooth, great reel for u.l.
Growing roses in Florida : Good buy
Great little reel, easy to use. I bought 2 of them
SCS : Great little reel
Very pleased.
Twitchell, PhD Voc Ed : Put this on a really light rod and have some fun
Good little real but hard on fishing line.
Justin M. : Very well made for the price.
I bought 4 of these ro put on some old crappie poles I had. I was actually surprised at the quality of these reel for the price. Zebco has always been a great product but these were much better made than I expected. Very satisfied with my purchase.
Buckeye : I really like the trigger spin and they are hard to find
Cheap lightweight reel. It does have a cheap feel to it but it has performed well for a couple months. I really like the trigger spin and they are hard to find. If it lasts, I will update to 5 stars.
Mike : Great reel
Smooth as glass, great little reel. Paired it up with an Eagle Claw collapsible pole that I throw in my backpack. It really is a nice SMALL reel. Pulled in a 4lb small mouth with no problems. The only one little thing is you have to crank down the tension dial all the way to keep line from spooling out when the fish is on.
RA or MA : Five Stars
Best you can buy 5 stars
Russ : Love it
Absolutely love this thing. Got it on a 9 ft slab daddy rod and its perfect for jigging. Had to tighten the reel handle screw twice now but have used it a least 6-7 crappie 5 hour trips.
E. Jones : Too early to tell for sure
First cast it ended up in the drink because the seat was too large for the zebco jonny quest fishing pole. Next time out it worked fine, on another pole, and hauled in a pickerel with no troubles. It casts nice and works smooth but lost a star for not fitting the jonny quest pole.
FARM1962 : It is better than the 33 micro gold
It is better than the 33 micro gold , doe's't hang up behind the spool . CAST SMOOTH EVEN FOR LITTLE GRUBS .
Elmer Fudd : Great kids reel
Bought for my son's 7th birthday. He can cast by himself with few problems, much easier than the push button or spinning reels. This style of reel has given the fewest problems for my kids to cast with so far. I have also casted with it and have no complaints. Hopefully it will last a long time.

WoodDuckCaller : Winner
Smooth as butter so far. I have been using this reel for a few weeks now. I have loved using the "silver" edition so thought I would give the gold edition a try. two thumbs way up..
Neil Brashear : Great choice for panfish.

Justin M. : Very well made for the price.

FARM1962 : CAUGHT A 4LB LG. MOUTH BASS ON 4LB LINE ...
CAUGHT A 4LB LG. MOUTH BASS ON 4LB LINE WITH THIS REEL . Reel is smooth but has the same proublem that the 33 max gold has , the line getting behind the pick up spool .
R. C. Dickey : Little reel has worked great
I see some others had problems with this reel. Sorry to hear that. I have 15lb braided line on this little reel. Two five and a half pound bass were caught with this reel last weekend. Anybody that has caught bass this large knows your the drag has to work well. The drag worked flawlessly and I haven't had any problems with it since purchasing.
North76 : design flaw
Not enough room between the trigger and the pole.

Phillip : Great reel!
Works great!
Marion C. : Good Buy
Great reel
Doug in Madison : Best underspin reel the is and I got most.
I let a youtuber talk me into trying a pair of $30 older 3 bearing versions and I put them on the shelf, these are the best of their style, great for pan fishing...
Dave M : way better than the Zebco 11
A very smooth, solid UL spincast reel, way better than the Zebco 11. The 33 weighs slightly more than other UL spincast reels, however it will cast a 1/8 oz lure a long distance with no effort, and retreives line easily.
JBShiver : Disappointed, not traditional Zebco quality
Very disappointed in this reel. I bought it for the Zebco name and the quality Zebco was once known for. This reel lasted 3 fishing trips, was double washed after each use, and rusted up. It's completely bound up. I'm going to disassemble and see if I can get it moving again, but this shouldn't be necessary with a reel I just bought in May.

Reel seems okay. I haven't had it long. You will want to change the line on it. The line that comes on it is cheap and constantly tangles
Howard Turner : A little pricey but okay
Okay reel for panfish. good not great
ATexU : Thumbs up!
These reels are super. Works excellent. Casts a mile and are tough. Thumbs up!
Brewdad : Try to keep it dry.
I got mine and it seemed to work pretty well but the first 5 minutes of using it my son dropped it in the lake we pulled it out immediately but it's super rough and won't cast more than 15 feet now so it might not be the best choice if you plan to fish in water.
larry : smooth
works great
JT : Finaly a ultalight spincast reel you can count on.
Smooth little spincast reel. I don't like or own regular spinning reels. I've been fishing with Bass Pros TinyLite Spincast reels, and as much as I want to like them they just don't hold up. I recently bought 2 of these reels, and man what a difference. Zebco 33 Micro Gold is exactly what I've been looking for. I can't tell you how many different types of ultralight spincast reels I've been through in the last 3 years. After this review I'm ordering 4 more. It's hard to find a quality spincast reel weighing under 6 ounces. I mainly fish southeast Georgia rivers Savannah & Ogeechee and although you may be going after Redbreast or Crappie you're going to pick up an occasional Bass, Jack or Mudfish. The few times I've used this reel it has held up very well. In fact today while looking for Crappie, I caught a Mudfish that went about 4 Lbs. The drag adjustment worked very well before the fish could damage the reel. Time will tell on the durability but so far I'm very pleased.

I need more of these little spinners! Smooth as silk, compact, and casts so easy a kid could master it in minutes!
