Questions about Berkley FireLine Superline Fishing Line
Q:
Does 20/8 in the description mean 20 lbs. break strength and 8 lbs. mono equivalent diameter?
Answer: Yes and in my opinion it's some of the best fishing line! I like it way better than spider wire
Answer: Yes. That exactly.
Q:
What size this spool and lb test?
Q:
Can you please tell me what is the product number for the fishing line I bought from you. It is called berkley 6/2 crystal fireline 125 yards?
Q:
- Is the item durable?
Answer: Extremely durable. Wont chaff nearly as bad as mono and much stronger. I fish saltwater for rather large fish and fireline is on all my reels.
Q:
How many yards are on this spool?
Q:
what color is this?
Answer: Smoke
Q:
What is the diameter of the 4lbs and is this braided
Answer: From Berkley's website (d'oh)
Answer: The diameter is 0.13mm and it is braided.
Answer: This is a braided line with a stated diameter of 0.006".
Q:
Second request. Need the Pproduct by Thursday, can you do that and a what shipping cost.
Answer: Yes for $4 but it depends on your zip code. What's your zip?
Q:
Will this also work for a main line on a baitcaster ??
Answer: Yes, it is a mainline. You can use mono or floro for a shock leader.
Q:
what is the dimenson of the 20 lb line
Answer: DIAMETER: 0.012in | 0.30mm
Q:
By shipping matters, what is the weight of the spool?
Q:
What would be equivalent to 6Ib test mono?
Answer: 6 lb mono from Ande.
Answer: Specs can be found on Berkley's website. Here is a link: http://www.berkley-fishing.com/berkley-line-superline-berkley-fireline/berkley-fireline-fused-crystal/1316954.html
Q:
Is this 2lb/.15 dia. 2.7kg.??
Q:
Is a 10lb fireline crystal lighter than 10lb mono?
Answer: Two completely different products. Mono is for stringing and does not knot. Fireline is for bead weaving and stringing and does knot well. Hope this helps....
Answer: Not sure what you mean. You can compare the diameter of each on the package. If you mean lighter by weight, I would say that it probably is a little lighter by weight, but that is just my guess.
Answer: Lighter as far as weight or strength? I use this line and love it!
Q:
Does Berkley no longer make 300 yd spools in 14 lb?
Answer: I believe they do. Put 300yd in the search.
Q:
How many yards and what is the test, 6lb?
Answer: The test strength I got was 10lb, 125 Yds.
Answer: 125 yards. 20lb test
Q:
Is this really 'original' and not the new, improved fireline?
Answer: It is the original. The new version will have the name beads mitch on the label
Answer: Original
Q:
is "crystal" a white or clear color? also what does "2/0.5 Lb" mean, is it 2 pounds or .5 pound line? thanks! :)
Answer: It is actually white. However, I use it for beading. I do not know if it will turn clear when wet. As for the numbers, the first number is pounds, the second number is for kilograms for test strength.
Answer: crystal is white....not sure about the weight limit.
Answer: It's white-supposed to 'disappear in the water, but I still see it easily. I use a green leader or color it w/ a magic marker, unless it's being trolled & fish won't have time to consider.
Q:
can we use this size for beading
Answer: Yes, It is the best I have found, I use it with seed beads and crystals , if using size 15s I would use the 6 lb. 11s and 8s and 6s you can use the 8 or 10 lb .
Answer: Yes you can I just started making it. It is a little thicker than the 6lb and 8lb. But it works. When I use different size beads in a peyote project and I use crystals I pulled to hard and cut made tbread
Answer: Yes, for 8, 11 size. Nothing smaller.
Answer: Absolutely. That is what I use it for. Some beaders are using up to 14 lb. My preference is 6 lb.
Q:
Is it mono
Answer: No, its more like braided.
Q:
is the fused crystal..crystal in color because the photo shows it black
Answer: the crystal fire line is white....the original fire line the black is called smoke
Answer: That is the "smoke" color. They probably used stock photos for their product. I would just make sure you're ordering the "fused crystal" and you should be fine
Answer: The picture looks like it shows regular fire line and not crystal but if you order crystal that’s what it should be
Answer: It's an off white color. Not black.
Q:
Do I need to use a leader with this, or can I tie a lure directly to the line?
Answer: Many times it would be fine to tie directly on for fish that are not "line shy". However, a leader would be recommended for abrasion resistance, shock absorbing (fireline does not stretch much if any) and to be less visible in clear water.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I'm sorry but I cannot answer this question. I use the fireline for jewelry bead weaving.
Q:
What's the diameter, it just says thin?
Answer: I have purchased this Berkeley Fire Line original fused of 10 lb size and the packing displays its diameter = 0.20 mm. Ideal for long distance smooth casts. Arun
Answer: It is probably 4 lb. test, which is the width of fine human hair (under 1mm). Product also comes in 6 lb. test (medium human hair width) and stiffer, and 10 lb. test (thick hair width and even stiffer). Good for beading, but not for bead crochet (not flexible enough).
Answer: Size 10 is .20mm dia. Size 8 is .18mm dia. Hope this helps. :-)
Q:
is this good for topwater?
Answer: Yes...excellent for topwater! The line floats, and handles beautifully!
Answer: Most braids & fused type lines float very well with top waters. Unfortunately, they are also super limp and have a tendency to tangle with the hooks and/or split rings. The solution is to use a monofilament leader, which also floats. You don't have to have a long leader, but one of at least 2' should cure any tangle problems.
Answer: I don't fish top water but I don't see why not...
Answer: Not really. There’s nothing like buoyancy in the line to make it anything special for top water.
Q:
Im wanting 4lb smoke 1500 spool...but i want orginal not the "fused crystal" line...is this orginal?? fl15004-42?? let me know...thanks
Answer: On the label, it says "thermally fused". Your call.
Q:
Is this line good for baitcasters and throwing lures
Answer: I've been using Fireline Crystal for several decades now. I use it in both baitcasting and spinning applications. In heavier pound test ratings, it is very adaptable to baitcasting. I'd recommend going with 12 - 14 pound test. Best part is that this "fused" type superline will not make noise through your guides when you retrieve it.
Answer: It works just fine in baitcasters for fishing with lures.
Q:
good for baitcaster?
Answer: I've been using Fireline since it's conception, back in the 80's. I have it on 4 of my baitcasters for bass & pike and 7 on my spinning rigs for drop shotting, finesse fishing and panfishing. I use about a 4' fluorocarbon leader on each, depending on the pound test of the main line I am using. Has never failed me and it casts beautifully. All my rigs are now filled with the "Crystal" version, which I prefer over the "smoke" or "flame colors.
Answer: I use a spinning reel, but I think it would be great in a baitcaster
Answer: High line memory couple cause a problem. I myself have never used it on a baitcast reel
Answer: I use Fireline for bead weaving. The test weight that I use(4 to 6 lb) would not be adequate for most fishing purposes but the product is excellent and comes in a variety of weights. It is the same line that my husband uses for seawater fishing just a thicker and heavier product of the same line.
Answer: I use this line for making bracelets with 'bead weaving'. It is very strong and flexible ... at least for my use.
Q:
i received the wrong item and want to return for correct items, help me
Answer: Go to orders page and choose return item
Q:
The fireline crystal 4lb 125 yds says smoke in the description and the item number indicates smoke. Is it crystal or smoke?
Answer: It's smoke; I ordered one in crystal and one in smoke and got one of each and the crystal one says crystal and shows crystal in the photo.
Answer: It is smoke
Q:
Im looking for a 12lb test what size would that be??
Answer: If you are looking for equivalent diameter to mono it would be at least the 20lb test fireline. I used 20lb test fireline this summer and it said it was suppose to be 8lb test diameter(mono equivalent). It was close but it was thicker than 8lb. Probably close to 10lb diameter. If you check the Berkeley website they have the specs for diameter. Also remember that all 12lb test monos are not the same diameter. Hope that helps. We were pleased with performance of the 20lb test
Answer: 12 lb test? Diameter would be around 8lb test in mono. Test is the same.pounds a pound world round. Pound of lead or a pound of feathers weight the same.BUT The Diameter is thinner with Fireline Fused over mono line.Hope this helps.
Answer: I want 6 pound test line which product is that
Q:
Is that 14/6 spool of Fireline mean 6 spools of 14?
Answer: 14/6 means this line is tested for 6 to 14lb line
Answer: 14 lb test line with a diameter similar to 6 lb test mono.
Answer: Correction 14 lb or 6 kg
Answer: 14lb or 6.3kg. You get 300 yards 1 piece
Q:
Can I use this in freezing temperatures does it hold up?
Answer: Ice does attach to the line but yes it does hold up
Q:
Is this a braided line, monofilament or fluorcarbon?
Answer: Braided
Answer: I'm not really sure. But I think it is braided. I'll check my supply tomorrow and let you know.
Q:
What is the line diameter/strength?
Answer: Oh my god, enough with beading, NO ONE CARES,...... As for the diameter, my 20 lb test is .30 mm
Answer: I'm not sure, as it relates to fishing, because I use it for beading. The weight is 6-lb. test.
Q:
Does this line sink or float? I want to use a good line for bottom bouncing
Answer: Extremely light and thin line. Would probably float with nothing on it or maybe a light fly
Q:
If I buy a crystal, will I really receive crystal? I'm worried because the photo is smoked.
Answer: I believe you will. I ordered mine a couple of years ago and don't remember that specific purchase, which is a good thing because I pretty much only remember if something was wrong. I don't know what you're using it for; I use it for bead weaving and use both colors. But I have recently found that the color I like best is the moss green because it disappears in the beading better than smoke or crystal.
Answer: The crystal is actually almost white
Answer: if you click on crystal, the crystal image should pop up.
Answer: Yes. They have always sent me what the words say I am ordering. They probably don't see the pic anyway in your order.,
Q:
What color is this? What is the diameter of the thread? I want 0.006 inch & lighter weight (should be 4 lb & 2 lb) but that depends so the diameter
Q:
Is the tracer line braid ??
Answer: First let me say that I use FireLine for beading not fishing, so am not sure of what your reference to "tracer" means. I've used the fused, but greatly prefer the weaved braid. The fusions will fray. The fused line is supposed to be more round by gluing them together vertically instead of weaving them. For beading, the I prefer the braided as it doesn't seem to fray as easily as I work with it in mulitiple passes through the beads. Whether this is true with fishing or not, I haven't got a clue.
Q:
I'm fishing for northern pike witch lp would you recommend?
Answer:
Answer:
Q:
If I want 8lb test what would I order? I dont understand why you cant simply put the test strengthj on the box.
Answer: Find the product that you want. These spools come in many lengths like 50yds, 125yds, 300yds, etc. Click on the length you want. On the product page, there are drop down menus that let you select the color you want and size. Choose the color then move on to the size. In the size drop down, the available weights follow another number. I don’t know what the 1st number is for but for 8lb test, the selection is 20/8 lb test. Pick that item.
Answer: It usually states 8 lb diameter which is 20 lb strength in other words its the same size as monofiliment 8lb strength but the braided line is 20 lb strength. Does that help?
Answer: You order 8 lb test line. Test strength is on the package.
Answer: You buy 8 lb test diameter line the advantage is the line has a higher tension strength that’s why you see two different lb tests.
Answer: if you want 8 lb test order it, it will look lighter than eight because of the strength
Answer: I think the first number is the lbs and the second is the equivalent of the mono diameter.don't use mine for fishing so will have to be extra careful now when buying.
Q:
How do plan to sell this if we don't know the pound-rating?
Q:
Is this .008 diameter?
Answer: No, the 6lb is 0.006" (0.15mm) in diameter. If you are looking for 0.008" (0.20mm) in diameter, then you want 10lb Fireline.
Q:
Which poundage is recommended if i am using a medium baitcasting rod 8-17lbs rating. lures' weight are mainly not more than 14gm.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I use 14lb for a wide range of gear in that class. It works great for everything from stream trout up to king salmon and stripped bass.
Q:
I need this before by Thusday, can you make that happen and at what cost?
Q:
Are there smaller amounts than 300 yds
Answer: Yes, 125 yds. is the standard spool. Available at all leading sporting goods dealers.
Q:
What is the diameter of the 20 pound version?
Answer: About the same diameter as 8lb mono
Product reviews of Berkley FireLine Superline Fishing Line
Amazon Customer : Good line
I can see the line in the water easily. Smooth casting and plenty strong. Durable
bt : Disappointing for the hype
Your mileage may vary but I haven’t been very pleased with the line. I’m using the smoke color and it left a back/gray residue all my hands whenever I handled it (and it feels gritty, like it’s covered in dust). I don’t like the way it let out or cast. It’s pretty strong line (as is all braid) but there’s a number of other lines that I would use over this one (and are cheaper).
Dave in northern Michigan : fireline
very strong no memory fishing line. I always use this for a season strip it off and re-load the same line from the other end so I get twice the use.
John McNulty : Wet your knot.
This has been my secret weapon for many years. I've caught many large trout with this line and another secret weapon on the other end. A wet, correctly tied Palomar knot will allow for a productive day on the lake or river.
Tim Austin : Nice line
Casts nicely, better than I expected. The smoke color makes it nearly invisible underwater. Holds knots well. I'd buy it again.
samrang hai : It's still a really great deal and high quality.
More expensive than competitors but still a solid performer.
Joanne S. Morris : Five Stars
Great for beading
Justin Bormann : Good braid
Bought this because it glows under a
Black light
Dorf : First Time Blues
I put this 30lb test Fireline on a new Shimano 6000D and find it really doesn't cast all that well. It casts more like 40lb test mono. It just seems to come off the reel awkwardly, and yes the reel is full. It's also claims ito be the same diameter as 12lb mono. Using a digital micrometer I measured the 12lb Stren mono line on another Shimano reel at .013in dia.(which is what it says on the spool) the 30lb Fireline averaged .0170in dia but went as high as .0177. How well does it fish; hard to tell since I haven't caught anything over 5 lbs yet. Perhaps this line will loosen up over time. I'll just have to wait and see.

Mike D. : Light and tough line
Fishing is great and this line is why.
Debra Pyeatt : Perfect for my Needs
Just what I needed - used in beadwork and I would order it again.
A. Buenovides : Bought some 8lb to put on a Pflueger Trion ultralight ...
Bought some 8lb to put on a Pflueger Trion ultralight combo and has been a blast to fish with. Using this line for the white bass run and it's killing it! Will be buying more.
an honest reviewer : Tie Knots With Ease
I ordered this fishing line after I read on a fishing website that fused braided lines develop fewer wind knots than regular braided line. I do most of my fishing at the beach (salt water) where it is usually very windy.
This line is made out of 4 smaller braids and fused together. The result is a stiffer line compared to regular braids and almost feels like plastic. The line is UV resistant and could possibly last a lifetime.
This 30 lb line casts out pretty good and I am happy with it. I'm certain that the 20 lb version would cast better but, I went with the 30 lb for added strength and confidence for landing big fish.
The best thing about this fused braided line is that you can tie knots with ease. It is so much easier to tie up knots with this line compared to regular braided lines. This line truly makes a big difference in ease and speed of knot tying. It's easy to use every time I tie a knot........all day long.
bad mofo : Best fishing line.
Best fishing line I've ever used. Monofilament can't compare.
Jon F. : Big Fun...
I decided to buy 20 dollar fishing line because I'm not a player, I just fish a lot.
P. Vizzoni : Very strong line for fishing OR beading!
I use this FireLine for my beading projects. I use quite a lot of it and I wouldn’t buy any other product. It is strong and doesn’t easily fray unlike some other beading threads that I have used. FireLine may be created for fishing but it works great for bead weavers, too.
Amazon Customer : The Best Superline on the Market!!
This is fantastic fishing line! It handles beautifully on a spinning reel. It casts very far..(I was amazed) and come off the spool perfectly, and very few wind knots! I am so sorry I did not purchase this earlier. I bought the Fire Green..it glows!!
Justin Bormann : Good braid
Bought this because it glows under a
Black light
Mittenman : Better than spiderwire
This is the newer version of the fused Crystal superline made by Berkley the overall quality of this line for spinning reels is amazing. I can cast a third farther with this line then with my identical rod and reel setup using spiderwire I have been very happy with this product and will continue to use it.
randy : I use the 6 pound and 2 pound diameter. ...
I use the 6 pound and 2 pound diameter. This line works well on spinning reels. I fish with 1/32 oz. jigs, and the line is very smooth allowing the line to slide on my finger nail while vertical jigging. This line cast well and floats allowing your jig to fall slow, so you will get more bits on the fall.
Phil D Iowa : i get more set hooks with this
and can put more on a reel than nylon
as it wears you can see a change and strip off a bit of line so you don't lose a fish
S. Burns : Best for beading!
This is my go to beading line.
Robert Davis : superior strength, but it is so slick I had to learn to use different knots to make sure it holds onto the hooks and the backing
Great fishing line. I switched from fluorocarbon to this crystal line. It has superior strength, but it is so slick I had to learn to use different knots to make sure it holds onto the hooks and the backing!
Debra Pyeatt : Perfect for my Needs
Just what I needed - used in beadwork and I would order it again.
Joan B. : Great value
Such a great value. Fireline is the only line I use for my beading projects. It's strong and doesn't fray or stretch.
F. Rudolph : best handling line I have ever used
Berkley Fireline is the only line I use in both saltwater and freshwater The only addition is a fluorocarbon leader depending on the species of fish targeted It provides me with long casts w/o dreaded windknots The sensitivity helps me land a higher percentage of the strikes The only problem is the high price of the line-I have too wait for a Walmart sale when the cost comes down from the stratosphere
Amazon Customer : Good line
I can see the line in the water easily. Smooth casting and plenty strong. Durable
lpm : Great product for bail reels and long casting
Great product for bail reels and long casting. The price is high though for what you get.
jim : Highly recommend this product
I've always used Berkley Fireline on my trolling rods, last longer, no stretch and the thin diameter gets my lures deeper. Highly recommend this product.
S. Burns : Best for beading!
This is my go to beading line.
Xiaoe Yu : Good
Good
sheriwnds : Great thread for beading
I love this stuff for loom work. It's strong and supple and durable. And the smoke blends with any color. The packaging was a little overdone tho. Item is 4x5, box is 5x7x10. HUGE.
twincats : This is a much better deal than buying 50yd
Quick delivery, product as advertised. I'm a beader and I never realized that the fishing line is the exact same thing as the beading line. This is a much better deal than buying 50yd. spools at the craft store!
Paul Seed : FireLine is really hard to beat.
I've been using Berkley FireLine almost exclusively for over 20 years. It love the sensitivity you get from the lack of stretch. It is super low friction, so it slides through the guides really well. I think I'm be able to throw my lures a little further using FireLine vs. a monofilament. It will get a little fuzzy with use, but this does not seem to effect the breaking strength. It's super thin for it's strength, so you can put a lot on your reel. I use it on my largemouth set ups (10lb) as well as my striper poles(14lb). My son is running it on is 5' 6" light weight rod too(8lb). I'll buy more when we need it.

Alan L Robertson : Very good
Works great
Casts well and winds smoothly back on to reel
Very sensitive, feel fish bite even if line is slack
I can get 2 seasons from this line with quite a bit of use
I use fluorocarbon leader, no problem tying knots
Line is smoother than others I have tried so you don’t get all the noise when reeling
A. Buenovides : Bought some 8lb to put on a Pflueger Trion ultralight ...

The Key Master : Greatly simplifies the fishing experience
People may wonder why they need a seriously expensive fishing line when only using 8 pound test, there are a few reasons:
1 - You can use an unltralight reel (that is also ultra small) and still hold sizable amount of line.
2 - the abrasion resistance greatly exceeds mono line. If you have issues with abrasion from the pole, trolling, bottom fishing, etc - then this is critical.
3 - less resistance to fish that can actually sense the weight of the line.. as this line is as fine as a human hair.
4 - This line is extremely easy to thread through a needle, and to tie..
gqueen2012 : Best price
Love its strength. Expensive but well worth it.
Eddie : Not for microguides.
Ordered the #30 for one of my baitcasters. This stuff is not limp at all and the diameter is very close to #50 powerpro. I have heard good things about this line but as soon as I spooled it up on my reel I knew it was unusable. Berkley makes great products but this one does not fit my application.
I could see this #30 line working perhaps on a 4000 size or larger spinning reel and a non micro guide rod throwing heavier weights/baits in the ocean or something but not for freshwater bass fishing on any casting reel.
This stuff sounded like Chinese firecrackers going off when I reeled it through the guides on my rod and it felt like I was pulling a wagon with square wheels if that gives you any comparison to the smoothness.
I like trying different products but I'm disappointed that this one didn't work for me.
FiveStar : Perfect for walleye fishing and a lot more
I have used this for 10 years. Perfect for walleye fishing and a lot more. You won't be disappointed! Update. Just had 2 Great Days of fishing in Northern Ontario. Boated well over 100 Eyes. Best line ever.
Phil D Iowa : i get more set hooks with this
