Answer: Thats the gear ratio, each turn of the handle is 6.4 turns of the spool (6:4:1) and 7 on (7:1:1). Depending on your application you might want a faster or slower retrieve. The best all around gearing is a 6 to 1 ratio, that way you can slow it down or speed it up as necessary. Allot of people like a 7 to 1 for topwater, jigs, worms, things that require you to take up allot of slack fast. Personally I like to stay around 6, because I have a limited amount of rods, and I use them for multiple applications.

Answer: It's the gear ratio that determines the retrieval rate. The 6.4:1 is 26 inches of line per turn, and the 7.1:1 is 29 inches of line per turn. It used to be that the higher the number, the smaller the fish you could catch, but that is mostly no longer true. What I like to think is what kind of bait is being used determines the retrieval rate. The kind of bate that you constantly cast and retrieve may benefit from the faster reel.
Answer: If you have a reel with a 6.4 gear ratio every time you turn the handle the spool will turn or retrive line at 6.4 spool turns or 7.1 spool rotations. Hope that helps, If you are lure fishing this is important to how fast you retrieve your lure and the lure action at different speed of return.

So I picked a Quantum Tour KVD Crankin' Rod, 7' MH power moderate action blended glass and carbon blank. They usually run around $160, but Gander Mt had them on sale for $99.94. Todays the last day, but if you order it on line they will take an additional $20 off if you add something to make the total purchase over $100. I added some Carolina Rig brass weights for $2 to get the extra $20 off.

Answer: The reel does not come with line. However, for reference, on mine I have it set up with 25 yards of 10lb test monofilament line as a backer on the reel, 125 yards of braided 20lb test superline as my main line, and another 2 yards of 10lb test as my leader for a total of 152 yards of line.
Answer: no, the reel doesn't come with line unless you buy it in a combo. Sometimes it will come with line that way. However, my personal favorite is Berkley Trilene Mono XL Line. Depending on what you are fishing for, is what weight you will need to get your line. Line for your reel is a personal choice.

have been using bait casters for a few years now and have caught lots of bass on them. Al my bait casters have been Kast king reels since they are cheap, or were, and i was a beginner. This is my first $100 reel and i will tell you it is worth every penny. It blows my kk assassin (which is defective) out of the water. It is a bit heavier but it backlashes less and casts farther than any other real i own, even my other abu garcia pro max spinner. it comes with bearing lubricant which is a plus. I own all abu garcia rods which i swear by so this rod match up quit good. don't mess around with cheap amazon brands, and if you are unsure about shipping damage then buy from store, nothing wrong with that. The reel reason not to mess with cheap brands is maintenance capabilities. The maintenance door is highly designed and well thought out. on cheap knock off brands they will have better drag, lighter weight and look cool but long term performance they will break down faster and usually break apart when you disassemble for cleaning or installing replacement parts. All in all this reel is way better than i thought it would be and makes me want to save up for one of their higher end models.

This is the finest casting reel I've ever used, who needs a $300 reel?!?! This one does it all! Smooth casting, even in wind or with lighter lures, smooth drag when fighting big fish, even close-to-the-boat Muskie takes are handled with ease!!! Just set it up and go fishing! (You set the magnetic drag and the spool tension based line and lure weight; hold rod tip up high, dangling lure a couple feet off ground or water.. press the spool release, spool tension should let lure weight just cause line to spool out slowly as lure lowers to ground or water and when it's down, mag drag should slow and stop the spool, to not let it keep rotating... This all prevents "backlash")

Buy it. But when you buy it buy 3. Just save yourself some time. This thing will throw anything from a few ounces of lead to a tiny beetlespin with no backlash. I have 8 lbs line on it but i had no problems at all. I assume I could probably go up to 12 without problems.

I think all the other ratings for this reel speak for how great of a product this is and I couldn't agree more. Very smooth retrieve and compact and comfortable in my hand. I do prefer the incremental amount (about 10%) of speed that the HS 7.1:1 has over the regular Revo SX 6.4:1, as I have both.
Would definitely recommend this to any level of angler. The easily adjustable magnetic brake makes learning to cast a baitcaster very handy in helping prevent backlashes. And I like how the crank handles are slightly angled inward, which give it a very compact and powerful feel when cranking. I tested a quite a few set ups in the store of all sorts of brands and in regards to just plain "feel" this one was one of my favorites.

And I like how the crank handles are slightly angled inward, which give it a very compact and powerful feel when cranking. I tested a quite a few set ups in the store of all sorts of brands and in regards to just plain "feel" this one was one of my favorites.

Smooth casting, even in wind or with lighter lures, smooth drag when fighting big fish, even close-to-the-boat Muskie takes are handled with ease!!! Just set it up and go fishing! (You set the magnetic drag and the spool tension based line and lure weight; hold rod tip up high, dangling lure a couple feet off ground or water.. press the spool release, spool tension should let lure weight just cause line to spool out slowly as lure lowers to ground or water and when it's down, mag drag should slow and stop the spool, to not let it keep rotating... Buy it. But when you buy it buy 3. Just save yourself some time. This thing will throw anything from a few ounces of lead to a tiny beetlespin with no backlash. I have 8 lbs line on it but i had no problems at all. I assume I could probably go up to 12 without problems.

First one i got had a bent handle out of the box and after a little bit of fishing it got kind of gritty and hard to depress the casting lever after getting a little dirty. Not even really that dirty though. Basic stuff you would expect to subject your rod to during a day fishing. Haven't fished the replacement yet but we will see.
Update: got the second one, this one crapped out completely after just a few casts. Something internally busted after the cast and turning the retrieve handle wouldn't re engage the lock lever to begin the retrieve. Had to pull my line in manually and slowly spool it up by hand to put it away. Not sure what is going on with abu Garcia but these reels are junk.

The price could not be beat at the time I purchased this. Been a long time user of Abu-Garcia products and this one does not fail to satisfy. 10 bearings make for a silky smooth retrieve and it casts a mile. The Revo lineup is one of the best. Solid reel and highly recommended.

This will be my second Revo SX reel. The first one is a year old, it still functions great. This is the best bait casting reel for the money. I've used my Revo 40 to 50 times last year. Not a problem, not even a backlash. Looking forward to fishing with my new reel.

Very impressed with the smoothness and speed. Drag system is much smoother than the 4600c. This reel casts and flips great. It is a little touchy at first. The magnet system rises and lowers slowly, allowing you to fine tune the magnet more than I expected. Love these reels. Hope they have the longevity of the round model reels. I recommend this reel to anyone with slightly better than average casting skills or more. Probably a little too touchy for a beginner.
