What size hook is recommended for use with the Fire Bait?

Answer: This bait is for trout fishing so you can use any trout hooks you would normally use.

Does this product float

Answer: Pautzke Fire Balls are designed to fish like natural bait. Natural bait does not float therefore Fire Balls sink naturally like real eggs do in a stream or river system. if you are fishing them in a lake or reservoir it is best to fish them under a bobber or they will sink to the bottom and away from where the trout bite.

Answer: Yes. It will also float with the weight of a small hook in it.

Can this bait be used for catching other fishes besides trout?

Answer: Similar fresh water fish.

Michele Williams : I definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting to fish with floating power bait for trout.

I purchased this product in order to fish in the mountains of North Carolina on opening day of trout season. Out of the one little area of the Tuckasegee river, we caught 16 trout and the four largest trout were caught off of the Patzuke fire bait, while the rest were caught with corn and jig heads. I definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting to fish with floating power bait for trout.

The dough is a good consistency and will be easy to apply and stay on a hook. The color is also nice and bright. The company has done everything it can. It's up to me and the fish now.
