Dave Hofacker : Tommy Bolin's Teaser (definitive collectors edition}
I'm so thankful that Warren Haynes ,Greg Hampton and Johnnie Bolin got together to do this tribute to one of the all time greats of guitar by not only re-mastering the original "Teaser" cd but giving us the out-takes in a bonus 2cd-disc entititled "Great Gypsy Soul" which features the original outtakes and alternate versions with added guitar and vocal from such greats as Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Peter Frampton, Steve Morse,Brad Whitford and many more. We truly lost a great guitar player and vocalist when Tommy died at the age of 25. Such a shame!
Cliente Amazon : absolutamente maravilloso
Purple fan : Satisfied
Finally Teaser comes with great sound. After years of listening to the previous edition I'm glad to have this wonderful recording with pristine sound quality.Everything flows well.Every song belongs there,no fillers.Stunning masterpiece. The reason I give this 3 stars is because of the overlapping with the bonus tracks, most of them are available elsewhere. The Great Gypsy Soul cds are ok,nothing to write home about.Nice version of Lotus with Glenn Hughes vocals. After all a must for Bolin fans, now please give us the definitive Private Eyes.
Chris Poustie : The perfect album - finally restored to its full glory!
I first heard Teaser, I don't know, at least 30 years ago, and since then I have considered it the greatest album ever recorded! It really is the perfect album in so many ways. However, although the original vinyl version I had, was one of the most wonderful sounding albums I have ever owned, the previous CD version I owned (Epic/Sony) was a huge disappointment sonically. Since I lost my record player and vinyl collection 20-odd years ago, I have basically been listening to a substandard version of the album, and Teaser is an album that really was produced to perfection, with all kinds of little percussive and stereophonic nuances, that need to be enjoyed in top audio quality. Finally, this newly remastered version delivers the goods....Teaser is back and sounds absolutely perfect again!
When I say this album is perfect, it is not only that the songs are all great (each and every one of them is either a 9 or 10 out of 10) it has also been performed and produced to perfection. I sat down to listen to this new version between 2 massive speakers, turned the volume up high and closed my eyes. I listened to the whole of the original album basically without opening my eyes. Just luxuriating in the brilliance of it. I had a feeling of deja-vu, of how I felt when I used to marvel at this album back in the early '80s.
If you compare this album to all the out-take and demo versions from the likes of Whips & Roses, Teaser Deluxe and indeed on the other 2 discs of this set, the original album is just vastly superior, incomparably better. And that just goes to show what an absolute perfectionist Tommy was at this stage of his career. There are so many different demo and rehearsal versions of these tracks, and yet the finished article is just head and shoulders above the rest. The attention to detail in the recording of this album is what really makes it stand apart from nearly all other albums. That and of course the beauty and diversity of the songs.
If you don't already know this album, and I guess almost everyone reading this does, then just BUY it now. It's a rock album although it covers so many different genres and covers them tastefully, authentically and originally. Funk, jazz, Latino, rock, reggae, fusion are all blended and Tommy is equally as competent in each. His Spanish guitar solo on Savannah Woman is simply breathtaking. Is there a better reggae song that People, People? Wild Dogs and Lotus demonstrate his genius for blending shades of dark and light, gentle and soft. The title track is just perfect rock with a funky sexual swagger. Dreamer is the perfect, beautiful ballad. Marching Powder showcases Tommy's incredible guitar virtuosity. I could go on and on....I LOVE THIS ALBUM.
If you own the old version on CD and are not sure whether to fork out for this new version - don't even think twice. This remaster finally brings Teaser back to life and it sounds as fresh as it did the day it was recorded.
I haven't mentioned the rest of the stuff in this set. I purchased the 5-disc set which includes the 3-disc "Ultimate Teaser" as well as the 2-disc "Great Gypsy Soul". The other discs in the set are all studio out-takes, all or most of which have been released before over the years. Great Gypsy Soul contains contemporary artists such as Steve Morse, Joe Bonamassa, Stever Lukather, Brad Whitford, Glenn Hughes and others, singing or playing along with Tommy on various studio out-takes. This is all nice to have, but to me, I'd have gladly paid the same amount (or in fact much more!) just for remastered album. So this is incredible value for money, regardless of what you think of all the 'bonus' material on discs 2-5.
The packaging is very good, without being great. The 3-disc Ultimate Teaser is a 4-panel digipak. The cover and back recreating the original album art tastefully (although the cover is slightly too dark for my liking - this is a small gripe). The rest of the digipak and the CD booklet contain really lame photoshopped artsy pictures of Tommy which, while not exactly detracting, add nothing to the quality of the package. Album credits are OK, no real liner notes to speak of other than a few words from Johnnie Bolin. The double-jewel case Great Gypsy Soul is packaged separately and the two are housed together in a nice sturdy box. This is good as it means the 3-disc digipak will remain protected in pristine quality.
In conclusion, I am totally thrilled with this release and have fallen back in love with the greatest album of all time.
RIP Tommy.
Brian McFarlane : GREAT STUFF, what a shame
Bolin's Teaser is some really good stuff. This has some excellent tracks on it and now available as a remaster really brings out the music/instruments. Overall this is better than Private Eyes and getting all the extra CD's and info (haven't gotten to all of it yet) really makes this a great value. Too bad Bolin went Post Toasty, he could have been there with the best guitar players.
Sevenpin : Holy crap. If you are a Tommy Bolin fan
Holy crap. If you are a Tommy Bolin fan, the alternate version of Wild Dogs on Disc 2 is worth the price of this set. Don't know how any human can do those things to a guitar!
James Garnham : Finally Teaser is remasters and sounds decent.
I should make a disclaimer first. I haven't listened to the tribute 4 & 5 discs yet. However, the Teaser stuff and outtakes are superb. Wild Dogs alone is worth it. Still in my car after a month and I keep going back to it. I'm not even listening to the regular Teaser just the 2 outtake extras discs they are that good. A must have for me. Maybe some day I play the tribute discs but I don't know. If I can find my original CD of this I'll toss it.
d bryan myers : Awesome must buy if you like tommy you have to get this
The remastered cd is incredible. I have owned this album on vinyl, cd and cassette and have never really heard it until now. The piano on "the grind" sounds so clear and I'm not sure i even knew there was a piano there. Every note of every song sounds so clear and crisp, this is the first "remastered" cd where I have thought it really does sound much much better than the original. It is worth buying just for that, the bonus material is your typical stuff, the "and friends" cd is neat but i will always prefer the original versions no matter how much I like the guest artists.
Whoever did this project PLEASE do a remastered version of "private eyes"
Bryan Sweeney : Tommy Bolin Lives On
I love the concept of other musicians "playing" with Tommy and hearing their covers of his masterpiece song writing !!
GEORGE J. FIBAK : Tommy Bolin "Teaser" definitive collector's Edition
Well, it needs no comment at all, what a music, what a great talent Tommy was!!If you like Tommy Bolin , run to the shop to get it, before it goes out of print......

make mine music : Tommy Bolin's guitar work has to stand with Ritchie Blackmore ...
Tommy Bolin's guitar work has to stand with Ritchie Blackmore, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Neil Young, Richard Thompson, Carlos Santana, Joe Bonamassa and David Gilmore---listen to this lp and see why
Rockstar2112 : Excellent Music, Excellent Value!!
This excellent package can be bought for less than $20 for five cds, need I say more. This has to be one of the best deals out there considering all of the overpriced Immersion box sets released in the last year or so. I bought this one mainly for the Teaser remaster( I have the Whips & Roses cds) & it doesn't disappoint & as an added bonus we get some great reworkings of TB by an all-star cast. The only thing that could improve this set would be some unreleased live TB from the Teaser era but I doubt there's much left out there in the vaults that hasn't already been mined! An excellent package that honors Tommy's legacy very nicely, lets hope a similar release is in the works for Private Eyes.
Luis E. Rosado López : Five Stars
Excellent Tommy.
Barry Elder : Sound quality is fantastic!
The remastering of this classic is awesome, just absolutely killer! As many times as I have listened to this music it seems like I am having it for the first time. Sound quality is just that good! The 11 minute outake of Lotus on disc 3 is worth the price of the whole set. If you are a Tommy Bolin fan get this set!
E-Max : Tommy the Teaser
shazam : Simply Amazing!
This is not just the Ultimate Teaser Edition. This is also includes Great Gypsy Soul. This is a 2-CD Collection of outtakes and alternative versions of songs from Teaser and Private Eyes.At the time of Tommy's death, all this was unfinished.Guitar tracks, and sometimes vocal tracks, were added later. This is a fitting tribute from some of rock n roll's best musicians that knew Tommy. The only thing that really puzzles me is what ever happen to John Tesar(The Grind,Wild Dogs, and Lotus)?
KENZOOTAK : BEST COLLECTION OF TOMMY BOLIN WORK I'VE HEARD.
ROCKIN GUITAR LICKS. SEVERAL ARTISTS PLAY HIS WORK. THE ALT OUTTAKES ARE AT TIMES BETTER STUFF THAN I'VE HEARD FROM HIM BEORE. IF YOU LIKE GOOD ELECTRIC GUITAR ROCK? THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU. FANTASTIC BUY.
Bass Ace : Not so much a 'teaser' as a full on session!!!
It's Teaser. And the remaster is sensitively done. The album sounds bigger tham ever, but in a "quality shines thru" sort of way.
The 2 CDs of outtakes and alternatives are brilliant. If you've got Whips and Roses 1+2 you know what you're getting, but the jams are wonderful. Heady. Unrestrained.
CD 4 (basically Teaser again with others adding their parts) is pointless. Even the Glenn Hughes track sounds more Hughes than Bolin.
CD 5 appears to be lots of guitarists playing over and aroumd Tommy and Prairie Prince for an entire disc. This is surprisingly good, tho Tommy does shine thru.
Not the new hotrodded guitar mix, this is the album proper with loads of top class extras and only one disc of filler.
Now if only someone would do the same for "Private Eyes"...
Gil the Thrill : A true classic, i couldn't recommend it more!!
Tommy's first solo effort. A true classic!!! Every song on Teaser is a masterpiece. From "The Grind" to "Lotus", every track is great. The arrangements are fabulous, the song selection, is outstanding. I've listened to this album (on vinyl at first) since 1977, when I first heard it at a friends house. Bought my own copy shortly thereafter. I have listened to Teaser since then, it is a true timeless masterpiece. Tommy's guitar work is absolutely great, but he wasn't so vain that the guitar work is long, boring solos. No he made sure this album had great MUSIC, not just a vehicle to show off his playing. I've loved this album almost 40 years, and still love it. I recommend every track, but if I was forced to name what I consider "must hear" tracks, I'd say "Dreamer", " Savannah Woman", "People, People", "Wild Dogs", and " Lotus", every track is great though. This set contains other discs as well, one is alternate takes, of the songs on Teaser. I enjoyed it. Another is different artists (Joe Bonamassa [sp?] for one), playing along with some of Tommy's songs. Very good disc. I couldn't give this more than 5 stars, but I would if I could.
Amazon Customer : Its tommy!
What a great album featuring the great Tommy Bolin. This features a ton of bonus material which really impressed me during play back...the man really did possess all the talent people expect from well known rock guitarist. Its awesome he has such a back catalog of cool songs...such a tragedy he couldn't continue his " journey man " career of recording with others the way he did.
steven farago : tommy bolin the definitive teaser

Terrence E. Martau : Tommy Bolin's Masterpiece Re-mastered
The re-mastered version of Tommy Bolin's masterpiece album "Teaser" has finally been produced, courtesy of the good people at Samson Records and 429 Records (and thanks to the loving efforts of Johnnie Bolin and Greg Hampton). The LP was remixed by Greg Hampton and Jeremy Mackenzie, significantly reducing the sound gaps between low and high volume points, resulting in a much more listenable album. (The original album's quiet passages were almost un-hearable at times, then suddenly burst into higher volumes.) A fabulous booklet of photos has also been provided, contributed by Tommy's estate.
The album itself is a masterpiece, 9 songs that perfectly illustrate why Tommy Bolin was hailed by many as "the next Jimi Hendrix". Sadly, the much loved songwriter and guitarist died a year or so after Teaser's 1975 release. Tommy Bolin's genius was that he combined prodigious talent with an unerring sense of taste, not often found in a single package. (Many brilliantly talented guitarists can't help but lean a little toward the bombastic.) For example, my favorite song for the past four decades, Dreamer, is perfectly constructed from start to finish - it's still astounding that Tommy was just 24 when he crafted his parts. Besides Tommy's "standard" friends and players (Jeff Cook, John Tesar, and Stanley Sheldon), folks who played on various songs include David Sanborn, Jeff Porcaro, Prairie Prince, Phil Collins, Jan Hammer, and more. Why? Because young Tommy had the confidence and audacity to visit neighboring studios and simply ask them to play!
The 5-CD definitive collector's set includes 2 CDs of outtakes and alternate versions of songs. Most of the songs feature extensive guitar work because Tommy was less concerned with the singing they'd eventually have. You can almost feel Tommy's mind working as he develops the guitar lines in each song. Some of the outtakes and alternate versions contain brilliant passages, yet each also illustrates that the precisely "correct" ones were chosen in the final versions.
The package also includes Great Gypsy Soul, an earlier released tribute album with people like Peter Frampton, Warren Haynes, Brad Whitford, Derek Trucks, Joe Bonamassa, and other famous guitarists playing alongside Tommy's original tracking. Myles Kennedy sings a version of Dreamer (Tommy's version is better). And Glenn Hughes and Sonny Landreth do a version of Sugar Shack that is joyous.
Altogether it's a spectacular product, beautifully packaged. Sincere thanks to everyone involved.
Glenn R. Mc Keever : Tommy Bolin - Teaser
What can you say about Tommy Bolin's "Teaser" album that hasn't been said already? Excellent album, remastering, and THE "Definitive Collector's Edition" for sure!
Michael J. Zeno : Great collection
Teaser was always an album I enjoyed, but I had not thought about it in a long time, as I'd never seen a CD of it. (I did have the Ultimate Collection boxed set on CD.) The original album sounds fantastic in the remix, the guitar playing in the bonus discs is very revelatory, and the Great Gypsy Soul is a wonderful collection in it's own right. My only issue on the latter is that I wish there had been more information on who was playing what part.
Johnny Too Bad : Five Stars
One of my 5 Desert Island Discs.
DHL : Fantastic
Both of Tommy Bolin's albums (Teaser and Private Eyes) have been favorites of mine since I bought vinyl versions back in the mid 70s. It's too bad he left us at a very young age with only those two albums. The CD versions did not sound as good (from an audiophile perspective) as the vinyl versions, but like a lot of music, I lived with the shorcomings.
After doing a search on Amazon for "remastered" versions of my favorite stuff, I ran into this collection. I did not have high expectations for this set, because most re-masters done on other music I love (Pink Floyd comes to mind, my early 80's CDs sound just about as good as recent re-masters) are mediocre at best.
Well, be prepared for a very pleasant surprise. This set is extremely well recorded, and the "outtakes" in most cases are MUCH better than the cuts on the released albums.
First let me comment on Teaser re-mastered. It is a bit cleaner than the original (I am comparing to an original CD released in the mid 80s), with a bit more space and 3 dimensionality, cleaner vocals, and a bit cleaner symbols and bells etc. OK, but not mind blowing.
But what really surprised me was disc 2 and disc 3 of the alternates and outtakes. WOW. The recording quality is even better than the re-master with large front to back depth and side to side breadth of the soundstage. And the music itself blows away the versions that were released IMHO. For example, there is a 15 minute version of Wild Dogs that is incredible (except for a short section where Tommy Bolin screws with the lyrics), but it is one of those long jams that you know will never make it to the record or on air play. The two outake discs are full of long jam type versions that will not fail to bring a smile to your face and lots of endorphins to your gut. Disc three has an extended instrumental version of Lotus which is absolutely incredible.
There is also a two disc homage set where a group of current musicians jam to tracks previously recorded by Tomy B. Not sure how they did this, but the producers and musicians did an amazing job. Again the recording quality is exemplary as is the music content.
I really have to thank the folks at Samson records for producing such an amazing piece of work. Not only does it showcase the amazing talent of Tommy Bolin, but it finally brings public a large amount of his work for us to enjoy. If you like the Tommy Bolin releases and appreciate long jams and extended cuts, you will love this set.
I just hope they do the same with Tommy Bolin's other album.
LexieGee : Teaser - plus a lot more
I didn't have a CD of Teaser and had wanted one for some time, but they were rather expensive - then I found this, which was actually less, I believe, and contained a lot more. I didn't particularly care for the tribute album, which seems to be cuts with Tommy doing a little bit and somebody else doing the rest, and the whole effect is rather underwhelming. But the remastered Teaser makes this item well worth the price, and then there is more - not quite up to Snapshot or From the Archives, but then we've just used up everything, I suppose, and he's not recording any more. At least not here. Buy it if you want a copy of Teaser, but if you already a copy you're happy with, I'd give this a miss. Unless you just want everything you can find that he ever recorded.
Herman : EXCELLENT
IF YOU ARE A TOMMY BOLIN FAN AT ALL, YOU NEED TO ADD THIS ONE TO YOUR COLLECTION. FANTASTIC REMASTERING OF "TEASER".
