The Fishbites 0093 E-Z Squid Saltwater Long Lasting Bait can be used on a bare hook or as a trailer on a jig or skirt. Each bait strip is 1/2 inch wide and 12 inches long and there are 2 strips per bag. The lures are made of biodegradable hydrogel plastic making them environmentally safe. They can be used to catch a whole host of saltwater species. Just cut it, hook it and cast it. How E-Z is that? Didn’t look like the picture. Color is different and looks old. Haven’t tried it yet... if I catch fish, color may not matter and I will change my review. Also doesn’t look like a package worth $9. If I don’t catch fish I will be returning it!

Just a heads up. The "squid" flavor doesn't ship well. It arrives discolored and hard. All the other flavors arrived in perfect condition. It could be the FL heat. We did receive a free replacement and did not have to return the original, but the replacement arrived in the same condition.

DTG : Fishbites attracts more and have less mess.

It really does work, we were very pleased. This bait attracted fish even when the real bait (squid) did not. We were catching two at a time on the jig with the fishbites to the one to zero fish caught on the fresh squid baited hooks. The fishbites attracted different types of fish (spot and trout in addition to croaker) than what we caught on the regular fresh bait. Less of a mess just cut the bait in 3/4 to 1 inch strips.

JMC : Good bait, but be aware! Item title of "2 pack" means two STRANDS of bait in a SINGLE pouch.

I thought I was getting a good online deal. Turns out, it was the same (single) pack that I could buy in a store. It also reads, "2 x 12 inch" which it's not. It's more like 9" strands of bait. But ASIDE from that, when I initially fished this product, I was about to give up on it. Three outings and about 6 hours of fishing multiple spots top and bottom and no fish. Then, on the 4th trip by Naples FL, a black drum hammered on the shrimp flavor. It was my first black drum and broke the slump. Since then, it's produced catfish and snapper, and while reeling in, a huge mystery fish slammed it but got away. I keep this in my tackle box now and when I get skunked casting for bait, I can put the cast net away and just FISH. The consistency is like carpet backing, so it stays on until you want it off (and maybe even beyond). Keep a knife and/or pliers handy for this stuff.

Might not get the same bites as natural bait but much easier to use and less mess. Use a variety of these baits in saltwater so I can not speak to this variety in particular . Happy with all the fishbites at the right price.

GS : Perfect for reef species.

I've ordered a few of these in various flavors and they've all showed up in good condition and not dried out.

These baits work really good for more of the reef species that like to nibble and rip softer baits off, trigger fish being what I primarily whip this bait out for. The mesh netting in the middle prevents them from tearing off the entire bait.

My fishing buddy and I went from wondering what was running off with our salted squid to catching trigger fish (primary culprit), damsels, wrasses, and other small reef fish with only about 25% bait theft, compared to the 85-90% theft with traditional cut bait.

Thunder God : Product NOT FRESH

DO NOT buy this product online. Pay extra and go to your local bait ship. I bought several variations of this bait via Amazon and ALL were old and dried out. After I sent the first order back and got an exchange I got more dried out bait. Some of the other ones that I bought were dry and as hard as a rock. Reportedly this product should be soft like a stick of chewing gum. What I got was hard and almost impossible to put on a hook without nearly impaling yourself. With the mesh weaved inside the outer coating the bait did stay on the hook for a long duration. Since my stuff was substandard, and getting very little attention from fish, I wish that it had not stayed on so long. I ended up cutting the product off of my hook and switching to clams as bait for my application.
