Questions about Best Glide ASE Adventurer Survival Gill Net
Q:
Is this reusable or just for a single catch?
Answer: Reusable
Answer: Yes used correctly it is a very versatile tool as long as your not goin for the big dogs like tuna or salmon even then it's pretty sturdy for survival but do check local laws if you plan to use it for other than survival purposes
Q:
How big of fish would this catch?
Answer: big enough..if it too big it will tear the net or will not get caught in the mesh...to small swims right through....the mesh stretches...we have it for emergent situations like the Cascadia Event, being remote you will hav e to be selfsufficent...
Answer: I've used this net as a hammock, I weigh 190 that should give you a rough idea
Answer: It's a strong net, if you anchored the sides to a tree probably 100 + lbs
Q:
Do I need a boat to set it up?
Answer: The Gill Net is for small streams. You tie the top rope to a tree and the bottom rope is a sinker rope. It should stay on the bottom of the stream. But a boat is not necessary.
Answer: As long as your legs are long enough to touch bottom, then no. You don't need a boat.
Answer: Checked the packaged and it doesn’t say anything about using a boat. You might have to wade out into deeper water.
Q:
Is there no photos of this open?
Q:
Has anyone actually used this
Answer: Yes, I have. It works good, especially in a stream for trout.
Q:
Can this be used multiple times or is it mostly a single use item?
Answer: multiple times
Answer: It can be used more than once. However you need to check your state and local laws on them as some states its illegal to use gill nets. The seller should make that known prior to purchase but they do not.
Q:
Has anyone used this?
Answer: I put together a bug-out bag and have the Gill net in there. Have not used it but it can catch fish for survival faster and easier than watching a bobber.
Q:
My 10 year old wants a gill net. I like the size of this one for him. However, it says emergency net. Would this be good for everyday use?
Answer: Thank you for your question. The Gill Net is intended as an emergency net that you would keep with your survival gear. It is not meant for daily use. The gill net it is meant to be tied across a stream to catch whatever happens to be swimming by. It is prohibited in some states for this reason. I hope that this information helps you to decide if it is a good fit for your 10 year old. Thank you, Best Glide Customer Service
Answer: It is made of nylon and will eventually break down. i bought mine for a bug-out-bag and have not used it. i would prefer to fish with a line and hook because i can catch enough for myself to eat. the gill net is not selective and will kill many fish, young and old. if you need to catch lots of fish and do not care whether you take young ones that would otherwise have a chance to grow up into larger fish then use the gill net. i only put it in the survival kit as a last resort.
Answer: I don't know I've never taken it out of package. U can try it and let us know.
Q:
When will this be back in stock?
Q:
Where is this made?
Answer: We have them made for us in Canada. Thank you for your interest.
Answer: i don't remember, to tell the truth
Product reviews of Best Glide ASE Adventurer Survival Gill Net
Devon : Nice net.
So I bought this last year and since it is illegal to use one of these, I have not used it...But if I had I bet I would say something like, "works perfect in a survival situation for trapping birds, (large crows and smaller it works like a charm. hawks and above, unknown) just set between two tree's with some 550 cord, bait either side, hang out next to it for a bit hidden, throwing the occasional rock which acts like a bug and you will aquire some yummy food in no time =)
Bruno : Five Stars
Exactly what I expected
Amazon Customer : Just the right size and weight to carry for emergencies ...
Just the right size and weight to carry for emergencies. High quality materialss, compact and reusable with reasonable care. A +
Wawash Keshi : Five Stars
great addition to my survival bag
Jay : Absolute junk
This net was not even close to what was described: much smaller. If you want to survive you would be better off throwing rocks at birds that had already caught a fish.
ArmageddonMarksman@yahoo : not unless i must
i bought this to add to a bugout bag collection of well known needs in the world. although traditional fishing is my way this is a survival item i wish i had in the past i hope to say i never will use it but if i find myself in need i will its just being prepared and thats all
Donald Fahlgren Jr : Five Stars
Great for a Bug-out Bag .
Chris Mogensen : Like it
Pretty nice for what it is. I wouldn't use it on a regular basis but handy in a pinch when u need it
Howard : Great net. Packed well.
Compact and now added to my bug out gear.
Bones : needs more
It's a good net for the price, yet has no floats or weights so would have to be improvised. Being a survival net it needs to be small so it actually fits the bill as floats and sinkers aren't hard to find in the bush.
Edit: Some components of the netting, I'm told, have the desired float/sink effect as described in the responses below. thank you for your contributions. Upgraded to 5 stars.
Kt from california : Cool

This is a great gill net. Heavy duty with lots of practical uses.
bryak42 : Perfect bug-out net!
Packaged in a small webbed bag so the water drains after use. Its the perfect size for being on the move.

B. Smith : Don't waste money!!
I didn't buy this item but as someone who has a bit of commercial fishing knowledge I felt compelled to make a couple comments.
First off, this item is way over priced. If you go through a commercial fishing supplier you could get enough material to make 10 of these for this price. Sure you'd have to put it together yourself, but it's not that hard. If you can't figure out how to put a net together, you probably don't have the skills to make it in a survival situation anyway.
Second, assuming they're using standard practices for measuring mesh size, 1-1/2" will at best catch some bait. However, that mesh size is way too small to catch "eating size" fish. Anything bigger than a minnow will simply bounce off and not be caught.
To clarify for those not familiar with how a gill net works, the holes in the net have to be just big enough for a fish to get his head through, but not the rest of his body. The net then catches under the gill plates when the fish tries to back out. If his head doesn't go through the hole past the gill plates, he doesn't get caught.
Now, consider the size of the hole in 1-1/2" mesh. However, you must remember mesh size does not equal hole size. The way gill net is measured is by stretching opposite corners of the hole tight, and then measuring the distance between the corners. So, 1-1/2" mesh means the hole will have a circumference of 3". Divide that by 4, and you'll find the hole size will work out to about a 3/4" x 3/4" square, or a 15/16" diameter circle. Draw that on a piece of paper and think about what size fish could get his head through that.
BTW- "FAA Approved Size"!!!???? What does the FAA know about gill netting?
***Update: I was looking through fishing regs and came across something relevant. Florida made "entangling gill nets" illegal a while back. To qualify as an "entangling net" the mesh size has to be greater than 2". So, this 1-1/2" mesh net doesn't even qualify as a gill net by the legal definition.
VB : Good product
I bought it for survival situation and haven't got a chance to use it yet but I did open the product and checked it out. Seemed like good build quality and should last. Would recommend although I feel it's a little expensive for a gill net.

Mark : on time and just as described
It arrived on time and appears to be just as described. Hopefully I'll never need it but at least it will be there if I do.
