Questions about Best Glide ASE Adventurer Survival Gill Net
Q:
Is this reusable or just for a single catch?
Answer: Reusable
Answer: Yes used correctly it is a very versatile tool as long as your not goin for the big dogs like tuna or salmon even then it's pretty sturdy for survival but do check local laws if you plan to use it for other than survival purposes
Q:
How big of fish would this catch?
Answer: big enough..if it too big it will tear the net or will not get caught in the mesh...to small swims right through....the mesh stretches...we have it for emergent situations like the Cascadia Event, being remote you will hav e to be selfsufficent...
Answer: I've used this net as a hammock, I weigh 190 that should give you a rough idea
Answer: It's a strong net, if you anchored the sides to a tree probably 100 + lbs
Q:
Do I need a boat to set it up?
Answer: The Gill Net is for small streams. You tie the top rope to a tree and the bottom rope is a sinker rope. It should stay on the bottom of the stream. But a boat is not necessary.
Answer: As long as your legs are long enough to touch bottom, then no. You don't need a boat.
Answer: Checked the packaged and it doesn’t say anything about using a boat. You might have to wade out into deeper water.
Q:
Is there no photos of this open?
Q:
Has anyone actually used this
Answer: Yes, I have. It works good, especially in a stream for trout.
Q:
Can this be used multiple times or is it mostly a single use item?
Answer: multiple times
Answer: It can be used more than once. However you need to check your state and local laws on them as some states its illegal to use gill nets. The seller should make that known prior to purchase but they do not.
Q:
Has anyone used this?
Answer: I put together a bug-out bag and have the Gill net in there. Have not used it but it can catch fish for survival faster and easier than watching a bobber.
Q:
My 10 year old wants a gill net. I like the size of this one for him. However, it says emergency net. Would this be good for everyday use?
Answer: Thank you for your question. The Gill Net is intended as an emergency net that you would keep with your survival gear. It is not meant for daily use. The gill net it is meant to be tied across a stream to catch whatever happens to be swimming by. It is prohibited in some states for this reason. I hope that this information helps you to decide if it is a good fit for your 10 year old. Thank you, Best Glide Customer Service
Answer: It is made of nylon and will eventually break down. i bought mine for a bug-out-bag and have not used it. i would prefer to fish with a line and hook because i can catch enough for myself to eat. the gill net is not selective and will kill many fish, young and old. if you need to catch lots of fish and do not care whether you take young ones that would otherwise have a chance to grow up into larger fish then use the gill net. i only put it in the survival kit as a last resort.
Answer: I don't know I've never taken it out of package. U can try it and let us know.
Q:
When will this be back in stock?
Q:
Where is this made?
Answer: We have them made for us in Canada. Thank you for your interest.
Answer: i don't remember, to tell the truth

I have not used this yet, however I have got it out and inspected it and it appears that it deserves a spot in my pack. These can be used to catch all sorts of protein from both water and land. I recommend one of these.
hantayo : Hope I never have to use it.
I have a bug out point on a small river. This would be great for generating a daily protein into one's diet if the shtf.
Amazon Customer : Very Nice
Nice, very nice...Put it in my go-bag in place of the automatic fishing reels and other gimmick ‘survival’ fishing kits that rely on fish biting a hook.
Simply set it when you make camp and you will pretty much always have breakfast no matter how muddy the water????

Michael J. McGann : Survival Fishing Net
Only used in a survival situation or as expedient carry net . The top stringer line is stated to float on water line . The bottom line is described to sink to stream bottom . A well made and packaged unit . Too large for vest or small kit carry . Yet a must have for a well rounded kit .

vex520ak : The jack of all trades... (is the master of none)
This mono-web rig is certainly a useful item to have. In an emergency situation it would be worth it's weight in Gold. Aviators who fly over remote country come to mind for one thing. People who live remote and may become snowed in or isolated due to natural disaster or something could really find it a valuable tool for putting food on the table. HOWEVER... you could certainly take the time and effort to put one together, yourself, for less. This thing, as you receive it, is not well suited to use in catching fish. It can be done but the float line does not generate enough relative buoyancy and the "lead line" isn't heavy enough. I've improved mine for that purpose by fabricating a better cork line and replacing the lead line with lead laced ground line. This specializes the rig toward fishing which hinders it's use for other purposes. As it comes to you it can be used effectively for catching rabbits, upland birds and other small animals if you set it up to do so and it would make an effective bird trap if you suspended it in the right place. Ducks which are compelled to fly through the narrow entrances to lagoons and such are vulnerable to suspended web like this (I've seen it done with a regular gill-net. After about 20 minutes the Natives that did it had to run back to the net and lower it as fast as they could. They had to release about 75 birds because they had already caught too many by that time. This piece of web is much smaller, of course, but it would work well enough if one had the means to suspend it in the right place in the evenings. This thing can also be used to catch fish in winter with relative ease. Smaller trout and such can be caught by suspending the rig under the ice. Bring two poles of sufficient length, cut three or four holes in the ice so that you can pass the end of a line from one pole to the other person at the next hole until you've got the line run far enough to pull the gillnet under the ice and have it stretched out the way you want it. It won't hang very well because the thing is so short and there isn't an effective way to put tension on the lead line but it will work. Maybe you could use some sort of rod to keep the bottom weighted and stretched in that case. Anyway, consider this item a general purpose, not the best for anything but useful for an array of tasks, sort of item. I like it but the fact that you can build two or three similar rigs on your own, each for more specific applications, for the same amount of money knocks it from five stars to "...meh".

Devon : Nice net.
So I bought this last year and since it is illegal to use one of these, I have not used it...But if I had I bet I would say something like, "works perfect in a survival situation for trapping birds, (large crows and smaller it works like a charm. hawks and above, unknown) just set between two tree's with some 550 cord, bait either side, hang out next to it for a bit hidden, throwing the occasional rock which acts like a bug and you will aquire some yummy food in no time =)
