back in the 60's and such these hellbenders were made by whopperstopper co. and were the best fishing plugs ever!! what size are these fake ones?

Answer: Can't answer your question but Magnum Hellbenders were the top choice for trolling for stripers on Lake Texoma back in the early 70's. Whopper Stopper was based in Sherman Texas then.

Answer: They're only made in the largest size of the original. They're about 5 inches long.

I used these to make my own white bass rigs to troll with. Lake Summerville Texas is a fairly shallow lake so this rig will bump bottom in less than 10ft of water.

I've been using Hellbenders sense I was a teenager and I'm in my 60s now. Just wish they still made the smaller version, They dive deep and usually go over structure without hanging up.

I use as a dive planer. Removed hooks and attached a 3' leader to troll a Petitt spoon for sand bass.

Really seductive action. Like retrieving it slow just out of sight or barely visible. Have caught lots of bass on it. Picking the right color for your area would be an additional advantage. Lost the only one I had being snagged across a pond with no access around. A year later I went back and crossed over on an inner tube and got the lure. That's how much I treasured this lure. Nice I've found it again on sale.

I troll with what is called a hell spoon. ITs a hell bender with a pet spoon tied on a 4ft leader. THe hell bender is strictly fora poor mans diver.
