Answer: approx. 6 1/2 inches on the Xrap 30 and 5 1/2 on the 20. Changing to this Rapala will give a great deep dive compared to the other Rapalas. The shorter of the two dives about 10feet less, and they both run best with a leader 18 to 30 inches long, and a snap with no swivel attached to the lure.

Answer: not sure, but I had one of the trebles straighten out on a large wahoo several years ago so I now replace the hooks as soon as I get a new Rapala lure. The Yozuri hooks are definitely heavier duty--I have not replaced those hooks.

Answer: I use .131 inch diameter wire or larger tied direct to lure and to a barrel swivel on the other end. Then I tie the leader to the barrel swivel. The wire will reduce the chances of the lure being bitten off when trolling in salt water.
Answer: This is a question with varying opinions. Many old timers argue for tying the leader directly. I have always used a snap swivel, and caught fish, the advantage being the ability to change faster. Another thought, and I use it sometimes, is to tie a 4 to 6 ft leader to the lure, leave a loop on the end, and use a snap swivel to attach to the main line. I find that gives you more versatility on the water, and good action. I also use fluorocarbon leader, to help with line spook.

Answer: If you are fishing the Pacific side such as the Bay of Cortez or the Gulf of California the 30 is the go to lure which is trolled at high speeds (15 knots) to get the lure down deep to target Wahoo and Yellow Tails. Dark purple being the favourite color.

I would not go that fast. these dive deep at slow speeds you also must consider current flow speed. reason I say all this is if you go too fast the deep dive lure will get hung up on the bottom and I have lost one because of going too fast in 30ft of water. so as another person mentioned 5-7 kts is good speed slower is also good . depends on the depth of the fish .

Answer: Ive found that the slower you go the deeper they dive. At 3.5 knots ive got them to hit bottom in 65 feet of water. I use 80lb power pro braid straight to the lure. I only use a leader during the summertime months when the really toothy fish will hit it. Use as little drag as possible in case it hangs up on some structure. North Gulf Coast of Florida.

Answer: Wow, lots of variables here. Trolling for Grouper in the Gulf west of Florida, with a Shimano Trevala rod (fast action), a Shimano Trinidad 30A reel w/40lb braid, and at 7 knots, I lock it down. At 13 knots it will have a huge amount of drag and require some heavy duty off shore type gear.

Answer: The actual bait is 6.25 but with flat bill the overall length is around 9" there great wahoo baits I would recommend changing the hooks out with owner 4/0 treble hooks & using 108 lb wire when riging them 131 lb is to much & doesn't allow the bait to swim properly.

For a $20 lure the hooks are very cheap. Send the lure unrigged and it’s better off. Trolled this lure for 1.5 hours to find the front hook discolored as if it was rusting instantly. I know these lures are supposed to be very effective but really need better quality hooks or need to come unrigged.

Last season i trolled a lot of lures for albacore and without a doubt the X-Rap magnum 15 was the best consistent producer.
Early in the season when the fish would hit anything the X-Raps were nice as they didn't get fouled and you could troll them under traditional clones.
Later in the season when albacore become finicky they stop hitting clones and X-Raps or Cedar plugs are the only artificials they will hit...at this point the X-Raps were out fishing Cedar plugs by 2 to 1.
Fwiw I also tried the X-Rap 30s and they didn't work as well...not certain if it was due to the larger size or the deeper depth.

Love these big Rapalas. Seem to be getting a lot of action with them and they hold up great. I have caught large grouper, kings, and a couple of sharks and the lure has held up perfectly.

Love the lure, but the only issue I had with it is, the tribble hook is too small and weak. I had to change the tail hook to a double hook much bigger than the tribble hook. With the change of the hooks I had no problem catching wahoo, yellowfin and skipjack afterwards.

I own many of these and would not go fish offshore without them. GG Mackerel is favorite color but Blue and Purple are also good. The most recent fish we caught on one of these was a 27 pound White Seabass, which usually feed on squid only. The new X-Raps have awesome finishes, run true straight out of the box, have sticky-sharp hooks and are proven trophy getters. Just be careful when pulling them out of the water especially at troll speed - after breaking surface they can fly back into the cockpit and you could find out just how sharp the hooks really are!

Major issues with the Xrap Mag lures. I have had 4 of them fail in the same way. The rear treble hook breaks off with the internal wire failing. This is on the first or second use. Completely unacceptable.
By way of background, I fish a lot and take good care of my gear. Everything gets rinsed immediately once I am off the water. The hooks are breaking off on fish, not on the bottom.
I’m a long time Rapala buyer and fan. I would recommend people look elsewhere for their this type of lure. I have contacted Rapala directly about this problem with no resolution.

Ran two days in serious mackerel filled waters with two strikes and no catches. Fished both the Magnum 20 and 30. Next day switched to yellow and red feathers caught over twenty mackerel and tuna. I'm disappointed after reading all those great reviews. Didn't happen for me.
