Answer: if they have sent me a spring-type strip

Is this item boxed so it can be given as a gift?

Answer: We intended to give this as a gift, however it was not in a box, it was in plastic and the plastic was torn and the items falling out. We ended up going out in town to find something that look well enough in its packaging to give as a gift.

Answer: No box, it comes in a plastic packaging like you would see hanging on a store rack.

Answer: If I remember correctly, it comes in plastic packaging. But what I always do is just wrap gifts in the packages they come in from Amazon.

My dad never has much on his wish list for Christmas, so my husband and I bought him this fillet knife and pliers... to have as his "good set" as opposed to his old worn one. The knife is super sharp and comes in a great quality sheath. The pliers are sturdy and easy to manipulate. Great buy.

The pliers work great. They are a little big but thats okay. They work great for getting sinkers off line to use again. I am glad I got the kit. I haven't got to use the knife yet though

Blade was dull, with large gaps between the blade and handle- debris will get stuck in there. The spring clip on the pliers isn't secured and easily pops out. Very disappointing.

This is by no means the first Rapala Fillet knife or Pliers that I have bought, and will not be my last.

The fillet knife comes in a sturdy sheath with a belt loop, and comes with a razor sharp blade. One of the things that I like so well about the fillet knife is the fact that its flexible and it sharpens very easily. This makes it easy to put a new edge on it each time before using it if you have very many fish to clean. One thing about the knife is that they usually do come with Rapala's pull through sharpener but this combo does not include that.

As for the pliers they are well built and very sturdy. All of the ones I have used have resisted rust very well and are still in use.

I would highly recommend this combo to anybody that is looking for a good quality fillet knife and pliers at a great price, you won't be disappointed.

This is a great combo the are very durable. They were also reasonably priced and less than Wal Mart. Rapala has been a favorite of mine for 40 years.

I was very excited about this filet knife but after using it to filet flounder (not a difficult fish to clean) it was so dull I had to switch to my old knife. Yes, I do know I can sharpen it but first of all, I shouldn't have to sharpen a new knife and secondly, I did sharpen it and it still was lame. The pliers I like

pliers are great. caught several turtles and used the pliers to get the hook out of their mouth. Never got to use the Knife for my fish. Everything i caught was to small..but sure it would have worked fine

Great, The thing is still sharp after 2 years of using it with minor sharpening here and there but never got a pit in the blade. I would recommend this set for any fishing friend since it is cheap enough to beat up with out feeling bad about destroying you nice pliers and cutco or similar fishing knife.

Update 4 years later: The blade has been thrown into the water once or twice and it has started to rust on the blade even after trying to sharpen it away. I still do think this is a good blade for the price that is why I am leaving the review at 5 stars. The pliers are still working but they also started to rust and the spring system to get the pliers to expand back broke off after multiple uses.
