Mepps plain treble Aglias in size #0 (1/12 oz.) are perfect for panfish (bluegills or sunfish) and small stream trout. They are very light however and require a nimble rod equipped with a light action reel spooled with light line; nothing heavier than six-pound-test. Two-pound-test to four-pound-test is better. Aglias in size #1 and #2 (1/8 and 1/6 oz.) are perfect for larger stream trout and large bluegills sunfish and crappies. Size #3 (1/4 oz.) Aglias are also excellent for smallmouth bass and walleye. These sizes are ideal for teaching youngsters the basics of spinner fishing as they are heavy enough to cast well with light tackle yet they are small enough to catch a wide variety of fish.

Joe Z : You can't go wrong with Mepps

When I'm at the ocean, I spin fish with bait. When I'm near cold water, I fly fish. But everything, and I mean everything else is done with a Mepps and a spinning rig. I'm 60. I've fished them all - Flatfish, Rebels, Daredevils, you name it. For artificial bait nothing beats a Mepps. Period. Full Stop. End of sentence.

Now, I ain't gonna lie to you. Mepps has offered some weird lures. Once they proved they had a winner, well, they had to try to improve it. In most cases it didn't work. Stick with the basic in either gold or silver. If you don't catch fish, it's not the spinner, it's you.
