Questions about Spro SBTJW-6 Prime Bucktail Jig, 6-Ounce, White
Q:
Can you cast these besides trolling or dropping deep?
Answer: ABSOLUTELY! I don't troll nor deep drop them. I cast light weight in shallow water and use 1/2-1oz in the surf. I like the 1 oz in moving water also. I hope this heps. Tight Lines.
Answer: You can cast the lighter models with spinning reels. The models over 1-1 1/2" with conventional gear
Answer: In general, bucktails are a little "fluffy" to cast as well as hard jigs. With lighter line and greater skill of course they can be cast. They bounce much better than they swim, of course, so think about the feeding habits of your quarry as well as the cast ability of the bucktail.
Answer: Yes. I cast them by bridge pilings for stripers
Answer: Yes. 6oz would be difficult to cast though
Answer: Of course.Great for black bass and stripers in deeper water.
Answer: Yes, swims very good! Retrieve at different speeds.
Q:
Did anyone had any luck with this lure for Red Snapper or Grouper?
Answer: I had good luck using these tipped with cut-bait...using this lure combined with cut cigar minnow out fished the rod that was using just cigar minnows by double ????
Answer: I use these in darker green with some white and kill it with the bass. large mouth and specially peacocks. White does not do it for me. Bass like what is indigenous to the area. I live in South Florida. Try different colors to what works in your area. I use these for fresh water fishing. Like them.
Answer: No, in my case I did have success with 2 mts needle fish.

Spro bucktails are well designed, great glass eyes, fish pretty well. Haven't caught any striped bass yet, but rock cod and ling cod seem to like them a lot. One nice plus is that with the hook facing upwards, I can bang the bottom of the ocean on rocks/clingy surfaces, and the hook tends to stay off the snaggy areas. I've looked at the bottom of the jigs, and they take bangs/dings along the bottom, since they swim pretty upright. Cast them into my pool, and they swim pretty well too.
