No

There better than using a twig as a hook, but not far from it.

Not the best money can buy by a long shot but they will catch fish. The biggest knock on them is they rust easily.

Save money somewhere else, hooks are the

most important equipment a fisherman has.

Tru Turnhooks are made with low grade wire,

poorly sharpened, often defective, and break

easily. The total lack of quality control is a clear

warning to avoid this name. A statement that

someone has caught a fish on them means very

little or nothing.

And BTW bilgerat, what's up with the attitude?

I quoted you. You already knew these hooks

suck. Why imply they are "just fine" when you

know they are not?

fishing user avatarbilgerat reply :

No attitude. I've NEVER lost a fish on a Tru Turn because of the hook itself failing and I've caught many good size ones. Of course I've lost fish by setting too early, not getting a good hookset, etc. which can happen with any brand hook.

fishing user avatarTimJ reply :

Reading this info about the TT hooks makes me think I may have been fishing with inferior hooks for, oh, 25+ yrs...

Using Brute TTs for flipping, I have never broken one hook. I have had them show rust, which gets relegated to the practice stuff, but I keep them dry...and the points need sharpening more often...but I'm cool with them. I haven't used regular TTs much so I can't really comment.

I am fishing Ontario and 5+ LM are not common. I am very confident in my hooks...just wondering if I should be using something else on our FLA trip???...bigger fish possible!

fishing user avatarSteve1357 reply :

TruTurn hooks are fine. Of course my fishing enjoyment doesn't require hooks that cost a buck each or throwing them with a reel that cost more than my first pickup truck.

Playing golf has become cost prohibitive, I see fishing approaching the same environment...

Walmart still carries TruTurn hooks, run down and try a package before investing money in the rebate to see if they are good enough if you have doubts.

Merry Christmas

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

This forum is about sharing experience and expressing

opinions that help everyone become more successful

fishermen. I think hooks are very important and there are

many options.

fishing user avatarbassattackerdad reply :

Why do people get so d**n testy about these things. I do agree with Road Warrior. While TT hooks may be fine, perhaps there IS something which may be better at very little cost more. Some guys swear by Gamakatsu and to be honest, I like Owner better. But maybe these new Lazer Trokars are better than all of them. I don't know, I haven't tried them yet, but I will. Here's their ad:www.lazertrokar.com Just because someone's been catching fish for 25 years on a type of hook doesn't mean they have to keep using the same hook for the next 10 years.

Roadwarrior why so sassy? Does it really matter what hook other people prefers? Lots of people gave the hooks on the Cabelas website good reviews, so I doubt they are as bad as you would like to make them sound.

It's hard to believe those reviewers when many of them also say that the Ugly Stick is the best rod out there.

Agreed, When reading reviews on those sites, realize the far spectrum of people writing the reviews.  ;)

I have actually used these years ago when fishing Walleye. They made a good live bait hook as they were designed to turn in the mouth. They seemed to increase hook-ups. Of course on occasion they did brake with larger fish and when freeing snags.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

I'm not sure I understand why people are taking things personally here.  I mean, it's a hook.  Sheesh.

If somebody doesn't like the kind of hook you're using, why should it bother you?  Big deal.  Seems silly to get all bent out of shape about it.  I don't get it.  :-/

As for TT hooks, I use the original "camshaft" hook in limited applications - straight forward Texas rigged worms on baitcasting gear in weeds and other "soft" cover.  They're a pain to sharpen and you can't skin hook 'em very well, which means the point will stick out every now and then (hence the "soft cover"), but I don't loose fish on them either. So I deal with it.  And yes, they rust too.

Other than that, I use Gammy's for pretty much everything else.  I've been intrigued by the Trokkar hooks.  They're scary sharp.  But they're a bit rich for my blood.

Your apology is accepted. Thank you.

In hindsight my remarks were out of line and uncalled for, so I'm offering an apology to you.

fishing user avatarSteve1357 reply :

Agreed roadwarrior. Where I was coming from, golf has gotten ridiculous. Green fees are a days' pay and where the best golf balls use to be a dollar each, are now $4 and $5 each.

I go into the fishing stores and see individual hooks at a buck each, spinnerbaits for $6, and shake my head at Rapalas for ten bucks. I was looking at the BassPro catalog, there are plugs in there for $16 each. To each his own, but I couldn't fish if I was slinging a $10 lure among the rock jetties on the Arkansas River or even a $3 jig. If you aren't getting hung up, you aren't catching fish.

Thats why I am loving Academy.  I can get some Bandit 100 200 series cranks for a decent price, and also with H20 line of baits.  I can really fill my tackle box, without have to totally empty my bank account

Some of the worst worm hooks I've ever used....possibly THE worst.  Just MO, of course.  ;)

If you demand a cheap worm hook, just pick up some of the XPS round-bends from BPS.  You can get 50 for about $11.....that's only a few bucks more than the Tru-Turns.  They're not Owners but they're infinitely better than the Tru-Turns.
