Daiwa Spinning Rods opinions 2024

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Tat, Tat XT, Tat Elite...

looking at grabbing 4 rods (spinning only) I have no experience with any of them and no one local has them to check out.

Anyone willing to share their experience with any or all of them would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have several 7'6"  Daiwa Cronos spinning rods & 1 Tatula. Really like the Cronos Rods & can be had for around$120-130. I have a couple of Tat Elite casting rods & really like them as well. I use Cronos for Ned rigs, drop shot & hair jigs.

fishing user avatarBig-Bass reply :

I too have two Cronos rods in 7'6" (both the F and XF).  One is fitted with a Luvias 3012H and the other I rotate reels on.  They are honestly do everything rods and I find myself using them over my St. Croix Legend Xtreme and even the two ET Smallmouth rods I have (6'9 ML).  I have a regular Tatula casting (with SV103H), an Elite AGS (with SS SV103SH and SHA spool), and a Cronos casting (with OG Fuego 100H).  They are all awesome...especially for the price!  If you are looking at the Tatula Elite without AGS, just get a Cronos at a better price (they are very, very similar aside form color).  The AGS is really awesome and very sensitive.  What specific models are you looking at?

fishing user avatarNathanDLTH reply :

I use the 7’3 medium Cronos for tubes and love it. Great rod. Had the 7’1 ml and loved the rod just wanted a medium. Preference. My opinion unless you go Tatula Elite AGS go with the Cronos rods. If you like the AGS rod I’d look at the 7’6 Feider and Ehler dropshot rod.

Basically all 3 of the non ags models

ML - Drop Shot

M - Shakey Head

MH - paddle tail swimbaits

Question when you put a reel on any one of them does it tighten all the way down or are there still threads exposed? Wondering cause the XT option is backwards locking but is up top so if it doesn’t tighten all the way down I’ll be gripping threads which sucks. Can’t find a single pic anywhere of a rod with a reel on it smfh

fishing user avatarBig-Bass reply :

No my Cronos locks from the bottom with no threads exposed.  I just took a picture of it but it says that my file size for the picture is too big.  Send me your email and I will show what you what the Cronos spinning looks like.  Thanks!

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

I came across a newer Fuego rod for $40 ordered it for the hell of it. The reel seat looks similar to the Aeros on my customs. Just want to see how it feels. New rod for the wife if anything lol

fishing user avatarnocluefisher reply :

I have a 7"1' ML tatula XT. I use it for my Ned rig rod. I like it a lot. I have a Daiwa Procryon on it, really a nice set up for not a lot of money.

How does it balance with the Procyon I had a couple of those... is it tip heavy?

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

This is what I can’t stand and am trying to avoid. So if any of these have this similar gap between hood and grip PLEASE let me know!! Most P poor design flaw IMO

fishing user avatarTim Kelly reply :

What reel is that? Never noticed a gap like that with any of my Daiwas using that fuji reel seat.

Just a Stradic Ci4, does the same thing with the procyons and Ballistic EXs.

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Grabbed some screens from some vids. Looks like different Elites use different reel seats.

fishing user avatarBig-Bass reply :

Slight variations but the same upward locking Fuji seat.

fishing user avatarDelaware Valley Tackle reply :

Imo it depends on how you grip the reel as to whether up or down locking makes more sense. If you put the reel stem between your pinky and ring finger, an up locking seat may feel better than if you put it between your index and middle finger moving your hand back onto the hood.

fishing user avatarTim Kelly reply :

That's absolutely true. I like two fingers either side of the reel stem and have moderately large hands, so I find the Aero reel seat by far the best option. I also prefer no foregrip, so I can put a finger on the blank if I want to too. The current Daiwa handles are almost exactly the opposite of what I would want. If you hold the rod in front of the reel seat they might be perfect though.

fishing user avatarkschultz76 reply :

No personal experience with those rods, though I’ve heard some great comments about the Elites.

Just wanted to throw it out there that in that same price range you can get a Megabass Orochi XX Dropshot Rod right now for $175.  Last I checked that was one model The Tackle Trap still had left. I ordered one on Friday in fact, personally I like an uplocking reel seat and specifically the VSS seat. I really like how MB implemented it on my  Addermine.  But both of these rods grips are built to hold the grip more forward of the reel then traditional grips.

fishing user avatarNathanDLTH reply :

The AGS Elite will probably have a better reel seat than normal Elite. The guides on the AGS are crazy sensitive.

Not at all, it feels really well balanced.

fishing user avatarfaygo1979 reply :

I started with spinning and moved almost completely to casting.  The thing is I have been moving slowly back to spinning for more techniques.  Ned rigs, drop shots are all pretty standard for spinning but I have been moving back for a lot of my Texas rigs, top waters, small to med swimbaits, and even some crank baits.

Basically Jigs, large swimbaits and frogs is what I have left for casting rods.

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Ok so this Fuego rod came in. I gotta say I’m extremely impressed with the custom reel seat, how it balances and way everything looks FOR $47.00 shipped! Idk when I’ll be able able to get out there and fish as my boats in the shop.

The stripper guide is kinda small I was thinking potentially doing a 3000 size reel might scale back to trusty 2500.

If this fishes good and I’m comfortable with it’s sensitivity I may just do these and Fuego reels instead of Tatulas...

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Doing more research between all the rods now I’m really confused as to what justifies what price....

Tatula $150 Msrp

SVF Blank, X45, Alconite Guides

Tatula XT $100 Msrp

HVF Blank, X45, Alum guides

Tatula Elite $180 Msrp

SVF Blank, X45, Alconite Guides

Cronos $180 Msrp

HVF Blank, X45, Alconite Guides

Steez XT $300 Msrp

SVF Blank, X45, Alconite Guides

differences:??

Tatula XT and Cronos host same blanks yet at $100 and $180

Tatula Elite and Steez XT host same blanks yet at $180 and $300

that leaves the OG Tatula at $150 with the best feature set at almost the cheapest price...

Am I overlooking something with them??? The pricing on some of these is questionable...

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Update on the Fuego... so the LT came in (kinda noisy idk if I got a lemon)... 2 ounces lighter than the previous Fuego so the rod balances slightly tip heavy just a minuscule amount. The 2 ounces on the reel I’d assume goes a long way as I’d think the previous Gen balanced with this rod.

With th that said looking forward to feeling the Elites in hand with Tat reels.

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Little update if anyone is interested..

so I bought a Tatula 721MHXS to check out. It feels great especially for the $100 that I paid. However the other 2 models I need I wasn’t digging their specs. So selling this to a friend.

One local store had a elite in stock. Wow theyre Light! Lol so I bit the bullet and ordered the 3 Tatula Elites without the AGS. Drop Shot is getting a 2500 LT, Shaky Head and Swimbait models a 3000 LT each.

Also, During the search came across some insane deals on a Fuego and Exceler rod. So grabbed those and paired each with a Exceler and Fuego LT. Will be great for the wife to use and keep in the boat as emergency back ups for tourneys.

mission complete
