Q:
What is the weight limit for the float? We go clamming and could use something that holds the clams and floats behind us as we is walk in the water.

Q:
Does it float?
Answer: Hello,
Answer: Absolutely, I take it in the surf to wade fish and does a great job keeping my bait alive. Good size too not too big not too small
Answer: Yes it does! It has foam ring inside the top layer.
Answer: We had a rope attached to lower into water to hold minnows.
Q:
What is the exact size of the 1 gallon?
Answer: Exact? Don't know. Its in Florida. BUt i "guess" its about 8' wide by 12" tall
Answer: Same as 128 ounces .

Answer: yes
Q:
What are the measurements of the 1 gallon bag?
Answer: 1 Gal Bag? It's a 5 gal bag.
Answer: 12x18. Estimate
Q:
Will this work hanging from a rope off a pier in saltwater?
Answer: Hello,
Answer: Yes, if the rope is long enough. Have done this many times before.
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes its very light
Q:
I want to use this for keeping beer cold in the water, would this work for that?
Answer: It probably would work, but the water may need to be very cold.
Answer: Yes, but the beer would also have to be contained in a can or bottle or else it will seep through the mesh ;)

Answer: 2or 3 cans

Q:

Answer: About 20" long 18"tall kind of round like a tote bag
Q:

Q:
how well does this work for about five 10-11 inch trout?
Answer: The 10 Gallon will work better for that ,It will be easier to get in and out of .

Q:
Will this fit in a 5 gallon bucket?
Answer: Yes to transport it, but it is a 15 gallon bag.
Q:
Could you use it for a live well for trout, Roughly how many do you think would fit
Answer: I have used mine to put Blues in it and tie a line to it and then to the dock. It floats and sits just under the water. I would say yes for a few hours but not a long term live well. I don’t think it would hold up being pulled in the water from a boat. I would say 4-6 fish in the 12-16” range will fit in the bag.
Answer: I use it as a live well under my dock for pin fish and bait fish, easy to clean with fish in it, use your hose on spray, not jet.
Answer: I use it as a live well tied to my float tube. Most places I fish have a limit of five, and there is plenty of room for more than that.
Answer: Would probably hold 3-5 trout depending on the size
Q:
Im looking at the 1 gallon bait tamer. When placed in the water, do the bags collapse or hold their shape? I'll be using it for minnows.
Answer: Hold shape
Answer: Hold the shape. I have two of these and love them. I hold green bait as well as shrimp. Can't go wrong with this
Answer: I bought the bag as a gift for someone who I kayak with. He's been happy with it and by the feel of it before I gifted it, it would hold its shape.
Answer: I been using one for years now I like the fact that when not infuse they fold up for easy storage. And when in use the hold there shape like they should.
Answer: They hold there shape.
Answer: It holds its shape
Q:
what are dimensions of 1 Gal / 5 Gal?
Answer: Not sure but large
Q:
Is the bottom flexible enough to squeeze in to a 8” hole in the ice?
Answer: Yes i believe you could squeeze it down to fit, it's fretty flexable
Answer: Yes it will bend in half on the bottom.
Q:
Will this keep shad alive?
Answer: Hello,
Answer: I’m not sure about shad, but it keeps minnows and perch alive.
Answer: I would think so, it does great with anchovies and sardines. I use it fishing from my kayak
Answer: I don't see why not as long as they are not stressed ,compacted and moving too fast.
Answer: Might be small. I use for live shrimp. Good
Q:
A 5 gallon bucket measures 14x11 which is what the description says. Why are people saying this isn't the size of a 5 gallon bucket?
Answer: People equate 5 gallon bucket to something like the orange pail at Home Depot, which is also advertised as a 5 gallon bucket.
Q:
what size is the Lindy original bait tamer? It says standard. What is that?
Answer: It goes by volume: one to five gallon. Think of a gallon jug. less than a foot long and 8-9 inches in diameter
Q:
Would this be handy to keep minnows in a livewell with fish?
Answer: Yes yes yes!! This was absolutely amazing! I surprised my fiancé with this for our trip up to Lake of the Woods in Canada and this worked FANTASTIC! Kept our minnows alive twice as long as the other boat traveling with us that used the aerating cooler. Just toss it in your livewell and you are set -- Highly recommend!
Answer: yes that is what we use it for and works great.
Q:
Can you use it for clamming
Answer: I don't see why not, its basically a mesh bag and will hold anything
Answer: I would think so. I dont see why not.
Q:
How do you guys think this would work for holding medium shiners hanging off the side of a fishing float tube? Thanks.
Answer: yes would work well i think. as long as not too wavy as shiners are delicate and any bumbs will quickly stress them.
Answer: It will be fine as long as you don't put too many in. I use for shrimp or greenbacks in saltwater and could not be happier
Answer: As long as basket is submerged.
Answer: Not a problem.
Q:
Will this work in a livewell on the boat
Answer: YES AS LONG AS THE LIVEWELL IS LARGE ENOUGH TO accommodate the bait tamer . I use it on my boat to keep the bait fish separate from the fish I catch .
Answer: Yes it will work in a live well. We have a bait business and use them to haul goldfish in.
Answer: Yes, it has weights on the bottom and is collapsible. You’ll have to close the lid on the top handle to keep it stood up. Pick whichever size best fits your live well.
Answer: It should, but unlike the old design that had a float on the side, if your live well isn’t very deep, it might not keep the bait alive.
Answer: Yes it would
Answer: Yes
Q:
How is the lid secured? Velco or zipper or ??
Answer: Velco
Answer: Velcro
Answer: Velcro. Works well
Answer: Velcro
Q:
What is the mesh size of the netting?
Answer: The approximate size I don’t know but only water can pass through the mesh.
Answer: 2 mm, nothing will swim through
Q:
Will this bag hold pan fish ?
Answer: Hello,
Answer: I think It would we use it to haul minnows to bait shops and put 8 to 10 pounds in a bag.
Answer: This bag is great for any smaller bait size fish. I use it for croaker and mullet
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes
Q:
How would this work as a chum basket?
Answer: Like if you wanted to hang it off the boat? I think it would work great for that, pretty durable, floats good, secure Velcro keeping chum in, holes big enough to create scent release.
Answer: The mesh is pretty tight. If you want the chum to disperse in the water, it won’t work.
Answer: I don’t see why not. We love these baskets. Collapsible, Velcro strap. Bait does not get as hot when wading. I also put bait in one to keep on front of boat when we fish from boat. Let it sit in water so I am not walking to baitwell everytime I need a fresh bait.
Answer: It works well as a bait bucket. Although we did not use it for such, I don't see why not. Sorry, I cannot be more help.
Answer: Yes I think it could. We use it as a trash basket!
Answer: No the holes in mesh to small .
Q:
Will this float tied to boat or dock?
Answer: There is a float ring built into the top, and weight in the bottom. Keeps it floating and fully expanded.
Answer: Yes. They float. I often hang mine from a limb over night and come get it the next morning.
Answer: No. Please read the reviews concerning the size before you buy.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Where can i buy this in a 5 gallon size
Q:
Is the mesh small enough to hold leeches?
Answer: Leeches are very soft bodied, so I cannot say it would work. However, the mesh is quite small (1/8 inch?), so it might.
Answer: mesh is maybe 1/8 in. ( pretty small ) not familiar with leeches
Answer: Hello,
Answer: Yes it works well for leeches!
Q:
How small are the holes? I want to keep new fingerlings in my aquarium separated.
Answer: pretty small. i would say 1/16 in
Answer: Should be fine. Holes are very small.
Q:
What is the mesh size, is it small enought to keep crappie minnows or spottail minnows?
Answer: The mesh size is very small. Although I haven't tried it, I believe that minnows can be kept without escaping.
Answer: Yes it will hold minnows fine but they make a smaller style which would function more like a traditional bait bucket. It's round and is weighted at the bottom. This style is more for keeping bigger fish alive.
Answer: I'm not sure on the hole size but I do believe it would hold minnows no problem.
Q:
Dimensions for 1 gal bucket? I'm planning on using this in my livewell to keep shrimp separated from pin fish. How many shrimp would fit in a 1 gal?
Answer: I use mine in fresh water. And obviously it can be used to separate live bait. Live shrimp of different sizes sounds like a guess how many gum balls in the jar question?
Answer: more than you need. I have two and keep shiners in one and shrimp in the other. I have had as many as 6 Dz. before with no issues.
Answer: We use our for minnows and we can put 3 to 4 lbs in ours and keep them alive for 24 hours
Q:
Is this 5 gallon size
Answer: No where near 5 gallons, maybe 1 gallon
Answer: If you compare it to a 5 gal. Bucket not even close. But it works very well for shrimp and other small baitfish. Permits good watrr flow.
Answer: No, I think it’s more 1 gallon. Perfect floating for live minnows. I love mine!
Answer: I think this is the one gallon size. See responses to questions. They give the exact dimensions
Answer: I’m not sure,but it’s large.
Q:
Will this work for live shrimp? Would the shrimp horn get hung in the mesh?
Answer: Works fine. No instance of horns caught in mesh. Mine is larger that 1 gallon and I would suggest the larger, the better.
Answer: That's what I use it for. Works [perfectly, much better than a floating bait bucket.
Answer: Yea it should work, the netting is pretty small and i would think it would matter. I put live go shrimp in mine all the time
Answer: I don’t think it will, very small mesh.
Q:
Can i attach it to my float tube? the vertical bags seem to collapse when i kick from spot to spot. when that happens, it smothers the bait.
Answer: Yes just add a rope and it will float behind you at the surface. I pull it behind my canoe, it holds large game fish and a ton of bait. It floats near the surface. It is awesome.
Q:
Is this strong enough to leave outside the boat while moving? Example: using it as a catch bag.
Answer: No I don't think so.
Q:
Can you use it to keep Perch and bluegills in after you catch them?
Answer: Only if they are very tiny! This is for bait like minnows or leeches If you bought the five gallon model, or perhaps the two gallon one, this would work. The one gallon is 10" tall with a diameter of 8".
Answer: Yes absolutely. They want to stay alive too.
Answer: Yes you could.
Q:
I’m looking for a bait holder that would sink 6feet below my dock so minnows don’t cook in summer. Can this be made to sink easily?
Answer: It has weights on the bottom and a float on the top to stay open. If you want it to sink you simply add some weight to the inside or tie to the outside.
Answer: Yes you can sink it . And it needs to be in the shade all the time the sun light kills. And water temp 65 degrees or lower . Good Luck .
Answer: It has built in floats but they might be able to be removed. Or place a heavier weight inside the bag or on the line. The 1 gallon size is very small I would suggest on bigger 5 gallon minimum
Q:
Will this fit into a 5 gallon bucket while transporting minnows?
Answer: Yes, it is much smaller than a standard 5 gallon bucket.
Answer: It will if you put in bucket fill with water the add minnows
Answer: Yes it will. No problem
Answer: yes, it sure will.
Answer: yes
Answer: Yes.
Answer: Yes
Q:
What are the dimensions of this in inches
Answer: 21 in. long. round with 17 in. diameter
Q:
Our koi spawned and we have babies. Would this work in a pond to keep baby fish from being eaten? They are pretty tiny.
Answer: The holes in this is .125 or 1/8 inch.
Answer: The mesh is about 1/8” so it’s small but I know fry can be even smaller.
Answer: It possibly could. It’s mesh so water can run through it
Answer: Yes, the material is similar to window screen. Only tougher
Q:
Anyone use this in a lund 1650 rebel xl bow livewell? how’s the fit?
Answer: We love ours for wade fishing. Bait stays cooler and lively since water can flow better. No black lid to heat up your bait. Light weight and collapsible. Taking up less room on the boat.
Product reviews of Lindy Bait Tamer Fishing Bait Bag - Keeps Live Bait Healthy and Active
Joe : NO MORE PULLING THE MINNOW BUCKET IN AND OUT OF THE BOAT.
FILLED MY LIVE WELL WITH WATER (JULY & AUGUST). DUMPED MY BAIT INTO THE BAIT TAMER. BAIT BAG FLOATS NICELY IN THE LIVE WELL. VELCRO TOP MAKES ACCESS TO BAIT EASY. KEEP A SMALL MINNOW NET (SCOOP) ON TOP OF THE LIVE WELL LID. RUN LIVE WELL FOR A COUPLE MINUTES EVERY 30 - 60 MINUTES. HAVE YET TO HAD ANY BAIT DIE EVEN IN THIS WARM WEATHER. CAN ALWAYS THROW A FREEZER PACK OR SOME ICE IN THE LIVE WELL. WHEN DONE FISHING, I PUT THE BAIT BACK INTO THE MINNOW BUCKET AND HANG OFF MY DOCK IN A SHADY SPOT. WISH I KNEW ABOUT THIS PRODUCT SOONER. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
bowunderarm : Loved...until
This bag is great, we bought because we liked the 5 gallon Bait Tamer that we used for our shrimp but needed a bigger bag for mullet and perch. Worked great the first 3 times, then after the 4th outing there are now 2 holes in the bottom from what I can only assume was a hungry crab. I will attempt to patch the holes, but I'm not confident that a patch will hold for long.
christy : Easy to get in and out of one handed and made structurally sound. Great product!
Great purchase, I use this on my kayak to slip my Crappie into so they have minimal stress and stay alive until the cleaning station. Easy to store on the kayak and extremely handy! I also use it for shad I catch with my cast net when catfishing . You will not regret buying this!!!
I am not Rappaport : Get One
Nice collapsible flow thru heavy plastic netting bait bucket. Collapses to 3" thick x 9" dia. Has 5"x5" velcroed lid and a pickup handle. Foam ring sewn into top perimeter will keep it afloat. Some small sewn in weights help keep it extended.
Andy : Happy and Healthy Minnows
Works great, seems durable. Most importantly for my setup, keeps leeches and blood suckers out. Fits well into a five gallon bucket for easy fill/transport/access. I have some 1 gallon bags too; this 5 gallon bag kept the minnows healthier and happier while still being a manageable size.
DQdawg : Perfect for our needs
The netting is strong and you shouldn't have any problem with turtles or sharp toothed fish trying to get your bait. The diameter is 2-3" smaller than a five gallon bucket. It keeps its shape and doesn't collapse in the bucket. Very easy to access your bait with one hand.
Amazon Customer : Works well
Works wonderful
Flyin4awa : A great buy!
When I decided to purchase this item I was skeptical based upon some of the reviews I read. After receiving it, my mind was changed. I set this up off the end of my dock, filled it with minnows, and “everyone” is just fine! No problems with turtles, ducks, or snakes. I would suggest a stronger Velcro on the strap, but I overcame that issue with a couple of zip ties. Overall, for price paid I am very satisfied and recommend this product.
Clifford W. Parks : Bait Bag
Good design except it needed some type of reinforcement in the ends to maintain shape. Ended up buying hula hoops at Hobby Lobby, doubled them over to create the correct diameter then sewed them in with Spider Wire.
DJevans2 : Game changer for kayaking.
Game changer for kayak fishing. Weighted bottom, nice velcro lid, and cary strap. Would by again.
Susan Keays : Good quality and functional
Good design for a bait bag. I like that it has the float at the top and weights on the bottom. It is a pain to clean thought. The very small chad get caught in places.
Sean : Used with my paddle board
Works as advertised. I rigged two of these next to my paddle board filled it with white bait and caught snook all day. I was able to paddle short distances and leave it in the water. But if you plan on going on a journey you will want to take out of water and put in a 5g bucket. You can paddle with it in the water but it will cause drag and slow you down.
Jennifer Thurmond : Description is NOT CORRECT
Works great. Not 5 gallon
Smaller than looks but works
Jan : Perfect minnow home
Like the fact that minnows stay alive a lot longer in this bait bag and it has a secure cover.
REV : Keeps my squid kickin'
I use this for squid fishing, it works great
Gary Price : Leech tamer
This is a cool item. The secret of keeping leeches for a long time is keeping them cool and keeping them clean. One way to keep leeches clean is to keep changing the water, in the container, in the fridge they are kept in. With the Leech tamer, you keep the leeches in this tamer and this tamer in a bucket in the fridge. When you want to change the water lift the leech tamer out and throw the water in the bucket away. I use a garden hose to rinse off the leech tamer and put new non chlorinated water back in the bucket and the leech tamer back in the bucket. Works much better than the old way. Also, out in the boat it makes the leeches easier to deal with since this can be pulled out of the water.
PGBC : Half the size of a 5 gallon bucket.
Half the size of a 5 gallon bucket. Read some other reviews. I returned it.
nic sparks : Works good
Works very good for bluegill fishing
j.j. : Does what it is supposed to
I use this as a live well when I fish from a float tube. Works great for that.
gary h. : Nice
Love this product!! Keeps my bait alive and fresh all day
alonzo villarreal : Five Stars
Very happy with this Tamer.
Lincoln : Great !
I like this item very much !!

karpbuster : I love this
I drag this behind my canoe or Twin Troller boat. It holds a bunch of fish and/or bait. You can also just drag it behind you wade fishing. It is easy to velcro open close and it floats. How easy is that? If it is full of crappie you may have trouble getting your boat/canoe going too much drag. I just pull it in and put it in the boat, any fish that get a reprieve are let go and the rest go home for dinner. The bait go in a bucket.
All of the fish stay alive and frisky while in this and in the lake.
Tymon S. : Seems very well made...collapses to ~3" tall
I haven't used it yet, but it seems to be very well made. It seems like the material won't easily rip or rot. There is a foam ring just under the lid to keep the unit afloat, and there are two weights sewn into the bottom to keep it expanded while afloat. Due to this ring around the top, you can only collapse it to a height of about 3 inches so you can't just fold it up and cram it into a tackle box but it does retain a fairly low profile still. The handle loops through an eye on each side and then velcros back onto itself. Mine came with two clips that you see at the top of the handle int the pic. There is a velcro flap on the top for access to bait that velcros on 3 sides (all but the 'hinge' side). I'm excited to use it next week!
Robert Gordon : Very good bait well
Its really great for putting your catch in.
DQdawg : Perfect for our needs

Rol. : it would of been perfect. But is not
If it was a true five gallons. it would of been perfect. But is not. I would say three gallons.
I fish the east cost of Florida. I like to keep my bait lively and safe. Use it in the flats is to small for the bait. Holes need to be bigger for better water flow. My bait did not last long.
Jacob A. Tomaz : Five Stars
light & airey
Bret Duer : Nice but not perfect
Little small for holding Alewife on the Great Lakes. Not a fan of the float. Waves will beat up your bait pretty bad. Durability is way better than any other mash bait bag I've found.

This thing is great for wade fishing! I put a kayak paddle lanyard on one end and attach the other to my wading belt. It helps the fish stay alive so much better than a traditional stringer!
Dell R. : Easy to store on boat
Holds lots of baits keeps them alive lots of fresh water.
Jkems : Works great!! Top notch!
Way better than the floating bucket thingy. I’ve used it in rough surf and works flawless. If it ever breaks I will definitely buy another one.
