Green Lane Smallmouth 2024

fishing user avatarJimW5283 reply :

In previous years I haven't had the best of luck here. But so far this season I have been having great luck with the smallmouth towards the reservoir and upper end past Marlborough elementary.

Does anyone else fish Green Lane?

fishing user avataryogerry reply :

Hi Jim,

I fish Green lane weekly. I have a 12' flat bottom I tool around in. I have had a great year there so far with a dozen or so 3lb+ largemouth. I mostly fish on the boat launch side up to Knights road bridge. Last year I picked up a 3lb smally about 1/2 a mile down from the boat rental area on the opposite side......where the steep red rock wall is. I got him on a salty spider swim jig in a tree laydown.

I'm working on getting my first Northern Pike this year.

Have fun,

Gerry

Hi gents - making the trek tomorrow for the first time. Any advice for a GL first timer as well as novice angler? Best places to hit? Will be in a boat.

Many thanks in advance.

Hey Gerry, sounds like we are both having great luck this season at Green Lane! It is honestly the best year I've had since I was probably a teenager, as far as fishing Green Lane. I've been using quite a bit of the Berkley Havoc Pit Boss' on a rugby jig.

Sorry I am just reading this now. I hope your trip went well! I honestly go all around Green Lane. If you turn right when on Rt 63 ( at the gas station ) follow that up the curvy hills and past the elementary school. Turn left on Mclean Station Rd. Go over the bridge and you'll see some parking. I've ventured down under the bridge a few times and have landed a few smallmouth ( and catfish ).

As far as in a boat: Launching off of Walt Rd I think is the best bet. It kind of leaves you in the middle of the reservoir, so you can go where ever. Its really just a matter of finding "that spot" on any given day. When its good its good, but when bad...its awful! haha

Best of luck!

Jim

fishing user avatarJimW5283 reply :

Check out this map of Green Lane. I just found it actually and it seems pretty decent!

Gotta remember this topic after the water softens. Always wanted to fish GL, but isn't it a "quarantined" body of water, meaning no outside watercraft? Thought I hit the jackpot with that map download, was hoping for a topo. Look forward to picking some brains when the season starts, and i'm always up for riding shotgun if any of you "Green Laners" want a second. ; )

fishing user avatarchrisdm4 reply :

I fish deep creek weekly with my kayak.  Love fishing that spot.  it gets hit hard with the trout stocking and then for bass but if you do your homework there are some real nice bass in there.  Also the other side of the dam at deep creek you can get a kayak in and there is some good crap and bass fishing as well.  I'm over there all the time if anyone wants to meet up!  always looking for someone to fish with!

I had to Google Deep Creek Lake, looks interesting, and would definitely like checking it out, bass and stocker trout is a good combination in my book. Especially if it's not "quarantined" like GL.

yeah no quarantined there haha.  It is small but fun.  It gets hit hard though but there are tons of fish in there.

fishing user avatarGGerod81 reply :

I fished green lane from 2010 to 2013, that lake can be amazing at times. The smallmouth are the best part of that lake, with the right bait and presentation you can pick up 20 or so smallmouth in a days fishing. The place is loaded with largemouth over 4 pds as well,  I miss fishing there but cant jusify going there and renting a boat when I own one already......Good luck and tight lines

Sounds like you need a partner! ; )

...and Welcome!

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Yup, eager to learn

fishing user avatarDogmatic reply :

In the interest of full disclosure, I have not fished GL, mainly because of the quarantine. But I know there's some big fish in there, and would love a chance to fish for them. What do you have for water temp now?

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Im not sure what the temps are, still have cool nights here, no electronics yet either, not a real deep lake.

fishing user avatarDogmatic reply :

Well, I got some electronics ; ) what kind of boat do you have? My guess, those fish are spawning or ready to spawn, and the SMB are definitely in post spawn. From my research, the upper portion of GL is shallow, and the closer you get to the dam, the deeper it gets. There's no topo, but I would definitely be hunting along those transitions, and searching for the baitfish.

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

14 ft v hull

fishing user avatarDogmatic reply :

Well, definitely concentrate on Knight road south, working that bridge, then hit the entrances to each of the coves, any lay downs, but you definitely need to get a water temp (and some electronics) otherwise, you're fishing in the dark. Slow rolled spinner bait is a good search bait (but the fish have seen it alot bc everyone uses 'em) jerk bait, cranks, swimbaits might be better options. What's the main forage in the lake?

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Looks like millfoil in some areas, i do plan on getting a fishfinder soon. Also I dont know much about using them either lol. I sent you my email address. Thanks for your help. Hope to hear from you.

fishing user avatarDogmatic reply :

"Forage"-bait fish, as in gizzard, threadfin, american, alewife shad, bluegill, crappie, crayfish, ect.

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Bluegills, crappie, yellow perch and a ton of white perch. Sorry

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Some crawfish

fishing user avatarAcerty reply :

Ymmv, however i haven't had much luck with a spinner bait on green lane Personally. Always attributed that to the abundance of people fishing them there. My 2 best baits have been chatterbaits and rubber worm actually, but I also dont do any boat fishing. I only ever bank fish. What part of green lane do you fish? Above, or below the dam? If you are above the dam (behind the high school or off hill road boat launch) theres a lot dynamite places where you should be able to get fish. Just look for the points and what appear to be natural cliffs (across from hill road theres a run of cliff that leads to a point). From what I've seen right now though (last week or so), it looks like there still playing it close to the banks so keep that in mind when you're fishing the cove. A number places you could probably cast onto the bank and pull it into the water and get some good hits.

Take all this with a grain or salt, or sand, though. I'm no pro and hopefully didn't come across that way. I just live maybe 10 mins away from the lake and spend a lot of time there lol

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Thanks so much for the advice, i have my boat at the launch area by the high school. I know I should try soft pladtics more, i just don't have confidence in using them. Maybe I will work my way over to the other side of night rd bridge. Thought of trying some lures that mimic the white perch, what colors do you recommend?

fishing user avatarMegastink reply :

Hi all! I fish deep creek, green lane, and nock (to a lesser extent) pretty regularly. I don't have a boat yet, but am always looking for folks to fish with!

I was going to hit deep creek today but I'm heading to skippack creek.  Starting to see the bass moving up when trout fishing in the past week.  should be some good fishing in the next couple weeks both there and at deep creek.  Hoping to get the kayak on the water there tomorrow afternoon for some bass!  Anytime you want to head out and fish let me know man!  We fish the same water.

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Any buddy have tips for tomorrow morning?

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Going out with my wife, but maybe some other weekends forbany of you guys? Have a 14' boat there!

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

1 perch, couple chasers otherwise NOTHING! :(

fishing user avatarMegastink reply :

I fished a lake in the poconos today and SLAYED some bass on the frog.

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Awesome!

What we're they using?

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Somethings gotta give, losing confidence but not giving up!

fishing user avatarDogmatic reply :

Looked at PFBC regs. and it says nothing about the use of live bait, if you're getting discouraged or losing confidence, get the biggest minnows you can find, dunk a few of them and you will be catching fish again. By the way, we should abandon this thread considering, as far as PFBC is concerned, there are no smallmouth bass in GL.

Not sure, i just saw photos but never asked them what they had on.  If i had to guess they had a sinko or some kind of soft plastic on working it on a weed line.  At deep creek the weed line is really starting to come in so i would guess that is where they are but i have yet to fish it for bass this year.  Going next week in the kayak for sure so i will post and tell  you guys how i do.

fishing user avatarjsbossert reply :

Ugh, 2 perch 2 crappie and that was from trolling at the res. Just can't get it going! :(

Boy, this is bringing back some memories. When I was younger, I lived in PA for a few years and fished Green Lane with my father.  This was back in 1988-93, and I loved that place. I have always wanted to go back and fish it knowing what I know now. Had some amazing days on that lake.
